I don't care so much about extracting JW's who are in and happy, but if a non-JW expresses interest, I'm happy to explain why they should not ruin their life by investing their time.

Do you have a need to prove JWs wrong?
by LouBelle ini remember when i first left i wanted to tell every one i knew how bad/wrong/indoctrinated the jws were.
i was angry at having been deceived for so many years.
now they are just like every other religion if you get to the core of it.

Do JW's intentionally act so as to bring persecution on themselves?
by gaiagirl insome witnesses state that "gods people will be persecuted" or "if you are not being persecuted, then you better examine your life".
a jw who works where i do poured the last cup of coffee out of the pot, and was asked to make another pot for the other workers.
he responded "sorry, i have to go to work now".

cameo-d: The question was not whether not making coffee has anything to do with religious persecution. The example given was what ONE JW was observed to do in a particular situation.
The question is "WHY did he refuse to make coffee"? Was he truly so pressed for time that he couldn't take 2 minutes to fill a pot with water and put coffee in a paper filter? Or did he willfully refuse so as to set himself up for a little bit of negativity from the other workers, thus proving in his own mind that he is one of "Gods people". Or perhaps there was some other reason.

Do JW's watch movies in their homes which they would not watch in theatres?
by gaiagirl injw's sometimes speak about how they don't wish to "stumble" non-jw's or cast a bad light upon the organization.
do jw's watch movies at home which they would not want non-jw's to observe them watching in a theatre?.
if they do, do you feel that they are really concerned about what the non-jw's think, or are they more concerned with being observed by other jw's?

Some Witnesses state that "Gods people will be persecuted" or "If you are NOT being persecuted, then you better examine your life".
A JW who works where I do poured the last cup of coffee out of the pot, and was asked to make another pot for the other workers. He responded "sorry, I have to go to work now". Other workers certainly did take a dim view of him, and spoke about him in negative terms several times that day.
Do you observe Witnesses who do things which cause people to speak badly about them or otherwise "persecute" them? -

Do JW's EVER admit to being wrong about any topic?
by gaiagirl inwitnesses are trained to believe they are right when speaking about the bible and their beliefs, even when reminded that their beliefs have been "adjusted" for "new light".. .
do jw's you know admit to being wrong on any point, whether or not bible related, or are the "always right" even when shown to be wrong?

When were the Earliest Bible books composed?
by gaiagirl inaccording to the table in the back of the nwt, genesis and exodus were composed around 1300 bce, by moses (who also wrote in exodus about his own death, nice feat).
however, the oldest existing copies or fragments of genesis are only from around 200 bce.. .
additionally, comparison of genesis with sumerian and babylonian creation accounts reveal many, many similarities, and the sumerians and babylonians had there stories long before 1300 bce...so it appears that someone copied someone else merely changing a few names to suit a different audience.

In journalism this is called "plagarism".
It is admitted that the Hebrews were captive in Babylon sometime before 500 BCE, but long after 1300 BCE. During their captivity, they would have been exposed to Babylonian literature (well, those who could actually read) and word-of-mouth stories recited publicly.
So, when do you REALLY think the Hebrews "composed" THEIR creation account, Genesis? Was Genesis the first book the Hebrews had, or were others, such as Psalms and Proverbs, actually written earlier? How long AFTER the events described were various Old Testament books ACTUALLY written? Which do you think have the LEAST disparity between the events described and the actual time of writing? -

Did the WT ever teach this?
by marsal in.
.
did the wt ever state that 'any angel could have been chosen to come to earth as a perfect man to pay the price for the "ransom sacrifice".. i read that somewhere and wondered if it was true..
-

I don't know if they ever taught that, but can't think why it would have made any difference, provided that one buys into the whole "original sin/ransom sacrifice" dogma (the Genesis account sounds like one of Rudyard Kiplings "Just So Stories" to me..."How the Humans Lost Their Paradise").
The gospels state many times that Jesus did such-and-such "in order that the prophecy might be fulfilled". IF these things truly happened (they may be later edits added long after Jesus life), then it wasn't so much as him being BORN into a role, as his consciously doing things so that people would believe he was the right one for that role. -

Do JW's assist "worldy" people after natural disasters such as Katrina?
by gaiagirl inwhen new orleans was flooded, did jw's in the area or from out of town gather to help those who were not jw's?
or were there efforts focused only on kingdom halls and the homes of jw's?

A JW at work told me "what you call an Ice Age I call a global Flood", and went on to explain about the water canopy, and how it had never rained before the Flood.
I explained that there are fossils prints made by raindrops striking soft mud from long before humans existed. Then I drew a picture of an Earth with a thick layer of water suspended above the atmosphere. "Is this pretty much what you believe"? He confirmed that it was. So I showed him how sandwiching the atmosphere between the water and the planets surface would cause atmospheric pressure to be many, many times what we experience today, and would make conditions very similar to those on Venus, an Earth-sized world which DOES have a heavy cloud cover.
He hasn't brought up the subject of the Flood again.
