I think all that bling is explained by the GB having access to all the donations from the JW community. No need for secret societies, just normal human greed.

Humans brought to Earth, not native to it.
by Bad_Wolf inbelow i link the article.
i thought some points on the claim were interesting.
such as how prolonged direct exposure to sunlight hurts us vs other animals, sicknesses, etc.

Steve2 - I don't need to hear anything. I just want to know where we really came from and solid evidence to back it up. Origins of life thus far are just like religions, all may claim they are correct but like religion none can prove themselves.
That's not how it works. There is no absolute proof. What you have are working hypotheses. The current hypothesis is that life started here on earth gradually evolved more complexity and that humans evolved out of that process.
What evidence do you have that validates your hypothesis and, more importantly, that invalidates the current hypothesis?

How is life better?
by Freedom rocks ini know this thread has probably been covered in the past but i thought it would be nice for newbies and lurkers and just a reminder to those that left a while ago.. how has your life improved since leaving the cult?
are you happy?
have you made some amazing friends or maybe met an amazing partner in the world?.

I embrace ignorance now. Or rather that it's ok not to have answers to stuff.
"How did life get here, by evolution or creation?" - I don't know. I do know it wasn't evolution though. Evolution says nothing about the origin of life, only the origin of species.
"Is there a God who cares?" - I don't know and neither do you.
"Is there life after death?" - I don't know.
I don't have all the answers, in fact I only have a tiny percentage of answers. What I do have, though, is a working model of reality that doesn't rely on wishful thinking, denial and claiming to know the answers to questions that are essentially unanswerable.

Lloyd’s new book
by jwfacts ini see there has already been discussion over lloyd’s new book how to leave the jehovah's witnesses.
this includes discussion around his personality, motives and financial gains.
i have written a foreword for this book, because it is an important topic that has not been covered in such a complete format before.

I don't watch John Cedar's videos nowadays because I only want a general overview of what's going on in JW land and not an in depth analysis. When I first started looking, though, his videos and website were invaluable. Mr Grundy's website is amazing and the best resource on the internet (that I know of) but I was only led to it initially by the more easily accessible talking head of Mr Cedars.

I "clearly" see two cats in the fire. There's a tabby cat sitting upright on the left side and on the right another cat is in the act of hitting the tabby cat round the face.

If you're expecting a mass exodus anytime soon, FORGET ABOUT IT!
by nowwhat? ini have to make a token appearance at the k.h.
once a month or so and this week went to a different hall.
and believe me they are all still totally oblivious to all the negative news about the pedophiles and shunning that have come under scrutiny by the media and other governments.

(In fact I would expect to see a few additional things, such as the sale or abandonment of Cheltenham before that).
Cheltenham??
That's the town I grew up in, 3 congregations of varying size in a backwater town of no significance I'm aware of?

@Drearyweather: I know that sad. But you gave them the authority to poke their nose in when you got baptized.
Maybe, but you can revoke that authority any time you like.

Jesus Christ—The Greatest Scientist (and Psychologist) who ever lived on earth!
by Ireneus inif we eliminate all the controversial and confusing verses attributed to jesus we will get the crystal clear truth from him because his source was (1) god which can be seen from his habit of early morning talking to god in prayer (mark 1:35; john 8:1, 2) which would not have been for material blessings (mathew 6:8; 16:24), and (2) also observance of people.. 1) jesus who said judgment is based on whether we acted humanely or not (mathew 25:31-46) would not have spoken about god’s people and pagans (which means bulk of the things found in gospel had not been spoken/done by jesus).. 2) another important truth he said was about the real key to our happiness which he said is with each one of us.
(luke 17:21).
from his observance of history, he knew there are people from adversities who made great contribution to the world; and there are people from all abundance who lived a life of wastage accomplishing nothing; and there are people who are mixed in varying degree.

Let neuroscience come with full explanation. At present neuroscientists have only partial view.
Science only has a partial view because that's as far as the evidence has led (so far). You may have a complete explanation but you have only achieved that by making stuff up. If we strip away all your fabrication and wishful thinking then the position we are left in is the same position that science currently holds.
You're like a poker player who when another player says "I bet £10" says, "I see your £10 and raise you 1,000 Pingu's.". Play with real money (verifiable facts) or don't play at all because I, for one, don't recognise the Pingu as viable currency.

I've finally signed. I'm forgetful. :(
The English translation of the petition is a bit scary though:
PETITION FOR THE EXTINCTION OF THE ASSOCIATION OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES AND CANCELLATION OF ITS REGISTRATION IN THE REGISTER OF RELIGIOUS COLLECTIVE PEOPLE.
I know they're dinosaurs, but extinction might be a bit much!
(I'm guessing it's a translation error...) -

How soon is soon?
by Sour Grapes ini guess if the jdubs have no clue how long a generation is they also wouldn't know how long a time period the word "soon" refers too.. 60 years ago my mother would hammer into my brain how soon the great tribulation was.
soon jehovah would destroy the wicked.
then a few years later there was no need to go to college because the end was so soon.

Frame of reference is key when considering something subjective like soon. It doesn't matter if there's an infinite God to whom "soon" is a million years. It's the frame of reference of the people receiving the message that is important.
For humans soon can still be seconds, minutes or even years. It's still subjective. What it can't be though is more than the lifetime of a human. That's not soon in anybody's book.
You might say, wait a minute. The Yellowstone Caldera is going to explode soon and that might be thousands of years from now. Yes, but the frame of reference for that "soon" is in a geological time, not human lifespan time.
The message was for humans and the frame of reference was human, so although the term soon is subjective it cannot exceed a whole human lifetime.
