Uncovering "GOD"
by Doug Mason inwith self-righteous indignation, the watchtower society (wts) points to its restoration of the hebrew tetragram (hwhy = “yahweh” = = = > “jehovah”) wherever the english translator renders it as “lord”..
the wts complains that the use of “lord” hides the fact that the name (“jehovah” for the wts) is intended.
however, with its call of “look over here, look over here”, the wts diverts attention, probably unintentionally, from related information that it, in turn, does not reveal..

Um, I wasn't saying that Enki = Yahweh, but that Enki is the origin of some of the elements that go to make up Yahweh. A proto-Yaweh if you like.
That's not to say that other gods were also included in the mass copy and paste job that went into creating Yahweh.

Not to disagree with you Doug Mason, but I thought that the origins of Yahweh were from the Sumerian god Enki?
There are many bible stories which have direct correlations with Enki's mythology, (And with the Sumerians predating the Israelites and the Canaanites and being a major power in the region their religion is likely to have had an influence on both) for example:
Enki is the creator of man.
He is a flood god.
He confused the tongues of men, creating all the different languages.
Also, reading the Wiki entry on him just now, I noticed that Enki is depicted with two streams of water flowing into each of his shoulders: one the Tigris, the other the Euphrates.[12] Alongside him are two trees, symbolizing the male and female aspects of nature.
I might be reaching too far here, but that sounds a lot like major elements from the garden of Eden story to me.
I've just read this bit in the Influence section of that Wiki page:
As Ea, Enki had a wide influence outside of Sumer, being equated with El (at Ugarit) and possibly Yah (at Ebla) in the Canaanite 'ilhm pantheon,
So, yes, it looks like Enki became Ea and then became El. So... we're both right? :)

Hollow earth
by Jrjw ini thought the flat earth conspiracy theory was strange but ive just read an article about a new conspiracy theory that the earth is hollow and that its a paradise there and 8 foot tall intellectually advanced aliens live there who send space ships out every so often to check on mankind.
apparently lost viking colonies and nazis that fled there after world war 2 are living there immortally 🤣🤣 .
this world just gets better and better 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

I first encountered the Hollow Earth idea when I read the book "Can you Speak Venusian" by Patrick Moore. That book was first published in 1972, so it's really not a new theory!
It's a fun and interesting read, I'd rate it along side Flim-Flam by James Randi for looking at and addressing the cuckoo ideas that people have.

First Christmas without the guilt
by Apostate Anonymous ini have lurked around the site for about 3 months and finally decided to join.
this will be my first time creating a topic here.
a little backstory for me.

Welcome! Remember that feeling you used to have about Christmas when people tell you that the JW's don't brainwash people, because that's exactly what that was!
Just to warn you: You might still have other bits of programming hidden away in your brain...

I've Returned
by m3tadata inhello friends.
recently i had been reflecting back on my past life as a witness, and happened to find myself googling jehovah witnesses and ended up on this website.
i was once an active lurker and occasional poster on this site about 7 years ago when i was exiting the organization and had always enjoyed reading others experiences and topics.

There was another forum which closed down in the last few years. Ex-Witnesses.com or something like that? Maybe that was the site you were thinking of?
Anyway, welcome aboard!

@jrjw They don't just have more to answer for, they're bloodguilty. They are soaked in the blood of innocents that they have killed with their teachings.
If by some strange twist of fate it turns out that there is a God and that he did write the bible and the JW's were right... then that God would justly destroy them all for their crimes.
Their best hope is actually that my worldview is correct and there is no God and so the only thing that is going to destroy them is themselves.

Annoying jws
by Jrjw ina 'concerned' jw in my congregation rang me earlier and said she's noticed my daughter sits miserable at the meetings and said she's a right miserable girl in general.
i said she's happy and hyper when she's not at the meetings they're just really boring and she doesn't want to be there.
apparently i'm a bad parent coz she feels that way.

Stories like these make me so boiling mad! These bullies are not able to carry on their bullying ways because you're weak, they get away with it because you're NICE.
They're exploiting a positive characteristic of yours, so if you want to counter them, you have to go against your own better nature and if you do get into a confrontation by not being nice towards them then the dice is loaded in their favour because they've had YEARS of experience not being nice.
This reminds me of the film Wargames: The only way to win is not to play.

Ayahuasca The Soul Herb
by new boy ini'm writing this tread for the people out there that are still looking for some kind of answers.
people who feel the void that any organized thought system can produce.
people who know there is more to this life than our daily routine which eventually will end, when we no longer exist.

There was an interesting documentary series on the BBC called Getting High for God that had an episode on Ayahuasca. My take on it is that if you frame the experience as a spiritual journey, then you're most likely going to have a spiritual experience. Nothing is really happening beyond your brain processing what's around you and what's in your mind at the time though.
When I took LSD when I was still a JW I had Armageddon style trips, but later, when I had become an atheist that all stopped and I had trips where I felt more closely connected to nature and the world around me. Like I've said elsewhere, it's great for learning more about yourself, but you don't learn about anything that's outside your head.
