I am still waiting to to to explain how the babies were a threat to human salvation. Could your god not protect the bloodline without murdering innocent babies wholesale?

If after 400 years they were still enemies, they'd be a high chance that the babies of the time would still grow up and continue to be enemies.

You were very explicit earlier that it had to do with protecting the purity of the bloodline.

I never once said purity. I said it was about protecting the bloodline. By stopping threats to it which could have damaged it beyond repaid. Therefore your point about Ruth is irrelevant.

I don't believe there are contradictions in the Bible, but there are things that are hard to understand. Also around creation etc I do believe a lot of what is detailed in the Bible is symbolism, so who knows how much of it actually happened. E.g. I am a firm believer in evolution.

If after 400 years they were still enemies, they'd be a high chance that the babies of the time would still grow up and continue to be enemies. For an all knowing God to know at some point these people will be a real threat to salvation, and then say to wipe them out for what they did 400 years ago still fits, as they're still just as bad as they were back then.

I agree that if the Bible is all non-sense then the reasoning would be similar to the Third Reich. But if you believe that the outcome of what happened did actually mean our salvation was secure that surely it would have been just. That, really is the only point I'm trying to make here. If you don't believe it, then you're probably right about God being an evil tyrant. Though one could still argue God works in mysterious ways and as being judge and as all have sinned he has the right to wipe out whoever he wants. Though, that's not something I'd want to argue. :)

I agree that people can use the Bible to support their twisted ethics. But I think that's only when they twist it to support what they believe, not what the Bible teaches.

If they weren't still enemies things would have probably been different. If they were repentant they would have been forgiven, but they weren't. They were still enemies. So it remains, if a few had to perish so that all man kind could have salvation then that would be just.

I see your points though, if you don't believe in God or that he is all knowing. If he didn't know those babies would grow up to be enemies and still present a threat to salvation then that god would be an evil tyrant. However, if he is all knowing, and just and had to do something to ensure we had salvation and that was the only option then it would be just.

The 400 year gap is irrelevant, at that time they were still a real threat to Israel and long term enemies. They were not innocent people. Yes, the infants at the time were innocent, but an all knowing God would know that they would grow up to also be enemies. When you're talking about the salvation of all mankind, present, past and future it puts it into context.

If God really does know everything and the outcome of every possible action and decided to do what he did in order to save everyone throughout history then it would have been a loving act for humanity as a whole. Same logic.

Why I remain one of Jehovah's Witnesses

allow me to begin with a clarification: when i say i am one of jehovah's witnesses, i don't mean that i am an advocate of the watchtower society or a devotee of some of its more controversial false teachings.

i mean that i am a christian, a disciple of jesus christ dedicated to jehovah god, and who remains in union with my brothers and sisters who make up the family of faith that globally refers to itself as jehovah's witnesses.

some totally understand the distinction between the family of brothers and sisters and the corporate organization known as the watchtower society (wts).

Galatians 1:1-12. States there is only one gospel. The WT does not teach the gospel of the Bible. Far far from it. They have it completely wrong on so many issues and levels, and mostly in major important topics too.

They are also proven false prophets, which the Bible says to stay away from.

They are also proven to be liars, which the Bible also says to turn away from.

If you know these things, and yet are still willing to stay in that organization you are far more delusional than you realize.

These people you call family would chew you up and spit you out the first chance they could get the moment you put a foot out of line. That's not family. That's mixing company with other people who are just as delusional as you, who are fully under the control of 7 old men in NYC

BTW, I'm not a bitter 'apostate'. I've never been a JW.

Jehovah Witness net - Bug

has anybody else noticed a bug with this website, where once you publish your post, only a section of it is actually posted.. this happens to me about half the time.

i'm not sure if it only happens with firefox on a mac, but i will try on a different browser.. i got to the point where i actually copy my post, then publish it, and then go back to it and paste the text again, so i don't have to write the whole thing again..

I'm on FF and have that problem frequently. It's very strange, as just certain portions are removed.
