yesterday evening my wife and i were invited to friends house for new year's eve.

we met them when i was a christian and we have kept in touch.

they had a few other friends there as well, including the new church pastor and his wife.

Great question Cofty. I was wondering the same thing.

PSAC: I am disappointed that you would automatically assume that any answer you gave would not satisfy me. I think that is a cop out.

What did I personally say to give you that impression? I just pointed out that your answers did not address the question asked.

Please understand that I am not trying to attack your beliefs in any way. I may not personally accept your explanation, but that doesn't mean I dont respect your right to it.

I am examining every thing I thought I knew. I realized that I was accepting "facts" and conclusions without question.

I am not asking you to get me to accept your beliefs, I will make up my own mind.

I enjoy and appreciate your responses.

Your earlier posts about taking the emotion out of q uestion Cofty asked seemed like a valid point.

The fact that I can actually discuss these issues freely is so liberating. I am keeping an open mind regarding god, I find I am starting to view him differently than I was raised to.

I feel I have plenty of time to reach my conclusion.

This thread has helped me in my journey.

Psac: how does your reply answer Humble's question Re: the golden rule. If your god felt the suffering as you say: why would he sit back and allow thousands to die and suffer?

Also re: Jesus/God: Jesus interfered with natural events: he calmed the wind; he helped his apostles fish; he brought Lazarus from the dead. Hev saw first hand how much suffering losing a loved causes us.

So what excuse / reason is there for him to go back to heaven and sit on his hands?

We might as well have no God.

Psac, how does your reply answer Humble's question re: god following the principal of the golden rule?

I am curious also.

If there is a god I dont think he cares. I think we are so beneath him that a few thousand , millions of lives doesnt even register.

We are God's ant farm.

A year ago today was my last meeting.

it was a sunday.

the shittiest public talk delivered by the most inarticulate and boring man.

as for the watchtower, there was something in it that repulsed me so badly, it made me question everything.

Not feeling obligated to go to the meeting ...what freedom.

Actually that article started making me rethink everything I thought I knew.

Im not too into doctrine, I bought all of the "light gets brighter" explanations in the past. But demoting all of the anointed except for the GB?

One of the biggest differences we could point to was that we dont follow men.

I just could not get my head around it.

Reflections on 1 year WT Free-breaking the chains...

hi everyone.. i just realized that it has been over a year since i discovered this site and started to recognize i was shackled by invisible chains.

i am still in the process of chipping away on those chains.. i posted on another thread how these threads here are like little time capsules.

the moment, the emotions, the attitudes are all there frozen.. .

Quandry: yes. It is wonderful to think for myself.

This site opened up a new world for me.

I can't describe the feeling I had when I realized for the first time the Bible Stories were not literal.

Noah's ark... I had accepted all the WT explanations without question.

When I started reading threads here about the flood, and started to do the math, I realized the

WT explanations did not make since.

I talked it over with my non JW daughter.

She verified what I was learning and gave me more facts to think about.

I was astounded. I looked at her and asked her how long had she figured this out. She said since high school. She told me she didnt tell me because she knew it would upset me.

I could not believe how gullible I was.

How do we set up a "Used New Bike Fund" for Terry?

is there any way we can try to start a crowd-fund to help terry get some wheels quicker than he currently can?

with craigslist and a couple of bucks from a few members we can help terry get moving.

does anyone have any ideas how we can do a "theists for terry" bike fund raiser and challenge the atheists to a bucket-head challenge?

My JW friend turned down the "privilege" of working the literature table at the park. Why?

i have written before about my jw friend that plays hookie with me on sundays.

we skip the meeting and go straight to lunch and margaritas.

she converted later in life and has been a jw for over 25 years.. she is in her late 70's and has had heart problems.

Thanks momginny. We had another fun lunch today. She seems content with her life. We enjoy each others company.

I hope she lives a long life. For a while there she sure how long she had because of her heart problems.

She is trying to keep stress out of her life. That is why she has not been going to meetings.

I had lunch with my JW sister. I am so glad I found the TTAT. The difference in our outlook towards life was staggering. She is fighting some kind of mysterious illness her doctors cant figure out. She hasn't been to a meeting in a while because she was so ill. She is just now bouncing back.

I spent half of lunch time biting my tongue. Some of the statements that just trip out of her glibly just had me shaking my head and realizing that a year ago I probably would have been saying the same things.

What a difference a year makes.

More friction with jw wife regarding moms bday bbq.

its my fault but i couldnt help it.

my fault because for years my sistets were indifferent to my wifes jwness.
