Why has the watchtower never written a commentary on the Greek scriptures?

they have writes hundreds of other repetitive books, but no bible commentary.

is it because an actually commentary would destroy their doctrine and prevent them from being able to cherry pick scriptures?.

Just saw a question like this on Yahoo Answers :) I didn't answer it there, but I'll answer it here. I don't think they would dare do that. In theory, it would destroy the doctrine. People would see that they're preaching the wrong thing and it's not about 'Jehovah', it's all about Jesus. They might actually figure out that when you cherry pick scriptures, all it really does is come back to bite you in the ass.

It doesn't really matter anyway though...if you have an altered Bible like the NWT, all you really have to do is write an altered commentary to match.

Unbelievable. This video is gone. The WT must be getting really dang desperate. Dallywally72's entire YouTube account is gone for copyright infringement. You can still hear the entire talk on the link I posted before...until they find a way to remove that too, anyway.

What WT is it? I've been away far too long to remember how far back it goes for the actual WT study. I'd like to see this one...sounds like a load of crap.

she has had 42 years of training and indoctrination.

i'm feeling sort of nervous, but also looking forward to it.

this will be our second scheduled session together, and we never did agree on a topic.. i'm assuming she will come with an agenda and another prepared presentation.

I've tried that exact sanctifying His Father's name thing with JWs too. Never got any further than you did. But it's one of those...sure, Jesus knew it, but does He call His Father by the proper name, or would He call him Father? If your dad's name is Bob, do you call him Bob or dad? He instructed us to call Him Father. Not a personal name.

The divine name was edited out of the scriptures about 250 years before Jesus' birth. The Jews were very superstitious and didn't believe it should ever be uttered out loud. They used Elohim or Adonai instead. So it was replaced with LORD long before Jesus. Even if He did say the actual name, it isn't Jehovah. Jehovah is an anglicized version of YHWH invented by a Catholic monk in the 13th century...Raymundus Martini. Jehovah is a false name. Yahweh would be closer. No one on earth knows the correct pronunciation, but scholars agree that Jehovah makes no sense in Hebrew and is a very bad translation. Earlier, some JWs I was talking to were saying Jehovah is English so it's easier and if someone named Juan came to the US and people couldn't pronounce it, they'd probably call him John. But this argument is silly...cause how hard is it to say Yahweh over Jehovah?

If she really wants to go over the Bible teach book with you, I say go for it. But prepare first. There's a man that wrote a book dissecting it - Wilbur Lingle. He takes it section by section to prove how wrong it is and gives lots of leading questions, one after the other, to reach the ultimate question for a particular point. By the time you reach that one, the JW is totally stuck and it should really make them think about what that book says. EDIT: Island Man has good points. There are scriptures that are clearly speaking about Jesus but it says Jehovah. They've added it many, many more times than what is quoted from the OT.

I have a firm opinion on who the real "god" of the Watchtower actually is.

I'm not sure where I read it, but I saw somewhere that the society has just recently said they will no longer be backing the elders when child abuse claims come out, etc. and that the elders are on their own if it goes to court. No lawyer backing from HQ. I'm not sure where I saw it. Maybe on a post here or JWSurvey...I'll have to find it again.

I can totally relate. Showing scripture has definitely backfired with my family. It also doesn't seem to be working with other witnesses that I and a group of people are trying to talk to on a website. They really are blind. They can't comprehend very simple things in scripture. They pretty well hate us and are very rude, and my family seems to be headed in that direction too.

Like you, I found Jesus and the real gospel and I couldn't be happier. The freedom and simplicity in Christ is life-altering. I also attend an incredible Baptist church. They preach the real gospel, not some other doctrine, and they are my family. All I can do is pray for my literal family and for all JWs, which I do constantly. In God's due time, if it is His will, He will open their eyes. Until then, all we can is pray and do our best to keep speaking and making known our Lord Jesus.
