after looking in to the history of the jw's and there beginnings.
from the millerites in 1833, (william miller) and there great disappointment in 1844.
= the 2nd adventists of 1873 (an off shoot of the 7th day adventist).
My point is that they were offshoots of eachother. The Millerrites, after 1849 disbanded and formed the 7th day Adventists, and the 2nd adventists.
C T Russell was a second adventist, but broke away to form his own religon..
I have only heard of the 2nd adventist connection, and it was new to me that they had any past before that. So I learned somthing new.
The JW'S history as I knew it, is now 50 years older than I thought it was.
So i'm learning and BUCKING UP!

Like the Puratins & Shakers who came to America, All believing the end is near?
The JW'S are "nothing new".. There is nothing new under the sun...
SO BUCK UP!!!
i know i read that at one time organ donation was something forbidden and then after a while it became a conscience matter for jw's.
(someone correct me if i'm wrong please).
i was watching a television show last week about a very interesting triple liver transplantation involving "live donors".
I would like to second that! (heathen) I realy don't trust hospitals, if money is involved..
does anyone know why charles rusell put the "winged egyptian sun disc" symbol on the covers of his studies in the scriptures?.
particularly, did russell ever explain in writing the reason for his using it?.
this is a good article, but does not indicate if russell wrote anything in print specifically about the symbol's use on the book covers.. http://www.premier1.net/~raines/disc.html
This is guess, but if he used the great pirimid near cairo ejypt to calculate 1914. Why not use the winged sun disk of ra for the renewal of life. Amon oops Amen
which one teaching really hurt you when you found out that it was not true?
my number one thing is finding out that the name "jehovah" was not in the bible like it was in the new world translation (tm).
christians did not call god "jehover" "jehovah" or by his first name, no more than you would call your father by his first name when you were a child.
There are so many, but one is that the apostates were telling lies, & beating his fellow slaves. And finding out that the ones that had the signs at the conventions, were the ones that had more thuths than the 'truth'
just a quick "thank you" for all that showed up at tony roma's last night.. mr. cb and i had a great time meeting all of you!
it was a wonderful experience to put the "face" with the poster.. to any of you out there that have never attended a meetup---please do not hesitate on going.
it is worth the effort.
That's where all the Portland people were, because out of six that verified, only two showed up. Me and the person that needed a ride.
Next time I'm only going to go to the MEET-UP if it's in Portland. That way if no one shows, it won't be a long drive, but it was nice talking to the person in the car while driving.
.
i always said my knee hurt, or i was sick, or too tired (i'd always make it a point to stay up till like 4:00 am on saturday nite)....
When I was going, I never had an excuse but if anyone asked! I would say, I took a vacation. It was a guilt trip..
the tms had always somewhat intrigued me when i was a jw.
it was actually a fascinating part of the thursday night meeting.
you never graduated, your grades didn't range from a to f, and it was mandatory to applaud after a new "classmate" gives their first talk.
I appreciate many enjoyed giving talks in the TMS, but I had a hard time preparing a talk. I felt like it was a heavy burden being laid upon me. Some of the bible readings made me ask. What does this have to do with anything now days? And I felt. If only I could give a talk on somthing that I had a passion about. I knew I could give a talk, and not even look at the notes, or audience contact.
one rule that i never could understand is that if you were studying with an unbelieving husband, you could associate with him, even as couples, but if a person was considered a "weak" witness, it was best to avoid any association until that person changed......what dumb rule or belief comes to your mind??
?
Saying 'good luck' or 'that was lucky' was bad, from the god of good luck, but saying 'that was fortunate' or 'fortunately' was all right. I guess the Greek Gods are more acceptable than Asian Gods..
