Hmmm, maybe that's one of the reasons for the WT disbanding the RBCs and bringing it all 'in-house' with the LDC - to stop this apparent over-pricing.

Under the old arrangment the RBC didn't pay the costs, they where all just passed onto the KH congregation/s to pay ALL the bills NOW.

Now with the new arrangement it is the LDC who pays the upfront direct cost - and who are therefore much more likely to be very careful with how they spend it - if they have a $100,000 budget, they are much more likely to want to spend it doing up as many KH's as they can (simply for the kudos off being seen to be busy and helping lots of KH) rather than spending it all on just one KH - previously it didn't matter, the direct upfront cost was borne, not by the RBC, but by the KH congregation/s - of course the KH congregation/s nowaday would pay a monthly contribution, but the above principle I think still applies.

Please note that a basic tenet of British law - which is where this court case is being heard - is that the accused are innocent until proven guilty, and the burden of proof is on the prosecution.

This is an on-going court case - as of the time that the above article was written, there had been NO conviction and NO guilty verdict/s.

BROTHER RUTHERFORD VISITS SYDNEY
In 1938 J. F. Rutherford, the Society’s president, visited Sydney for a convention, which was held in the Leichhardt Stadium. Plans were made for him to give the public talk at the Sydney Sports Ground, and contracts were signed for his address to be published in a morning newspaper and broadcast throughout the country by radio. By this time Brother Rutherford was well known for his outspoken remarks about the activities of the Roman Catholic Church in public affairs. As a result, the press and radio authorities wanted to censor his speech before handling it, but this was unacceptable to the brothers. So arrangements were made to include it in a booklet under the title Freedom or Romanism? One million copies of this bright-red “bombshell” were printed for distribution throughout Australia. Meanwhile, Brother Rutherford was the center of intense publicity. As a result, close to ten thousand people came to hear him speak. At that time there were only 1,300 Witnesses in all Australia, so the witness given was great indeed.
One of the reasons for Brother Rutherford’s visit was to examine complaints about certain commercial activities that the Australian branch had developed to give brothers employment. He was satisfied that these things were not harming the preaching of the good news and commended Brother MacGillivray on his initiative. However, later on these enterprises were to bring trouble and difficulty.

A Jehovah’s Witness sexually abused three young girls after luring them with video games, a court was told.
Paul Shields, 57, who was living in Guisborough at the time, allegedly sexually touched the youngsters, who at the time were too young to understand the seriousness of Shields’ actions, said prosecutor Andrew Espley.
The prosecution alleges that Shields, a married father and former plumber, repeatedly abused the girls when he was in his 30s.
Mr Espley said it was not until 2014 that two of the women, who were under-age at the time of the alleged offences, reported the matters to police.

steve2: JW organization uses a similar count, boasting that so many hundred thousand visit JW.org each day - but that is an exaggeration because individuals may visit it on more than one occasion on any one day.

You could probably describe that as being apathetic towards the JWs.

Probably kinder though to say that a lot of XJWs have a low level of interest in JWism in general.

Like you say - occasionally they'll watch a youtube, they'll keep an eye on forums, keep track of things, but not much else.

Because I do think it's a bubble - the OP gives some figures, and I would estimate that there's around 20,000 people in the bubble

SO the hard truth also seems to be that MOST of the 20,000 or so XJW's in bubble aren't even bothering to view/listen to non-JW produced stuff regarding the JWs -hmmm kinda makes you wonder what hope there is!

The JWs are a small religion, the XJWs are even smaller, and the XJW Bubble is even smaller..... and remember

New light in this weeks WT?

anybody have any ideas where they are going with the "new light" they have been pushing last week and this week?

for instance in this weeks study article one section reads:.

Also, it's an insult to those conscientious objectors that were shot, in Britain at least, during WWI for not joining the war.

I understood that although CO's, in some places where treated terribly, and died as a result of that treatment - they where not 'shot' or 'executed'.

Although there was a gray area due to CO's being able to prove they where CO's - there would seem to be a clear contrast with those who were NOT CO's. but instead DID join the military and take up arms, but where then court-martialled for desertion - and executed by firing squad.

“I was very interested to read Harry Whewell’s article ‘. . . Nor the years condemn’ (February 21). In it he mentions plans to turn the cells of Richmond Castle, Yorkshire, into a permanent memorial to the conscientious objectors of the first world war.
“The treatment he describes of those intrepid men reminds me of that meted out to my friend Frank Platt, who died in Mill Hill, London in 1974. He was one of those who were transported to France and then submitted to the most horrendous torture in an attempt to make him take up arms against his fellow man and fellow Christians.
“He was given ‘shot drill’ that required him to carry a 30 lb weight at arm’s length and repeatedly put it down and pick it up again until he finally fell exhausted to the ground. This after three months of a bread and water diet. For having collapsed he was sentenced to another 18 days of shot drill.
“When this had terminated he was bashed in the face several times and then tied day after day by the shoulders, hands and feet to a beam in a tiny storeroom from 8 am until 8 pm with an hour’s break for cold rice and water. From there he was transferred to the ‘Black Hole of Le Havre’, where some prisoners were even beaten to death. Fortunately Frank survived the experience and kept his integrity.
“When I faced the same issue in 1950 things had greatly changed. I received a six months’ prison sentence. But as your writer correctly states many other countries are still way behind on understanding this issue of conscience. It is an international phenomenon of those who would sow peace and love. Let it not be forgotten that there were also thousands of German conscientious objectors, many of them Jehovah’s Witnesses like Frank Platt, who spent more than a decade in the concentration camps.
