Uber Cart Witnessing at the State Fair
by truth_b_known inlast thursday i bunch of us working decided we were going to head down to the state fair and badge our way in to get a fletcher's corny dog for lunch.
we had to go to a specific gate to park and show our credentials to get in.
this meant driving halfway around the perimeter of the entire fairgrounds.

's claim that the org asks for stocks & shares in their version (english) of the wt each year.
the elder was appalled at the idea (stock market gambling etc.

The Fall Guy: The point being made is that the European J.W. elder was disturbed at the thought of the WTBTS being involved in stocks and shares, because his Watchtower said no such thing.
Well, as per my post above, if he's Romanian, their language version of the WT DOESN'T say anything about 'stocks and shares'.

Hitachi TV Review
by The Fall Guy ini have never reviewed a product before, but having purchased a hitachi 50 inch full hd lcd tv at the weekend, i thought i'd share my experience.
hitachi tv's are now made in turkey, and not by the hitachi company.
the uk's sole supplier is the argos company.

I'm always VERY careful when opening big ticket items, so that everything can be re-packaged if needed. Could you do a factory reset? And/or complain about the sound? (which also might be actually faulty anyway?).
But a 50 inch Full HD LCD TV for only £350.00??

The Fall Guy: Can anyone confirm that this statement does not appear in WT's in some/all other European languages? I thought 8m JW's got the same info in the same WT's?
I think nowadays the English version is the same everywhere? The issue is in other languages when there ARE differences....
You can check yourself on jworg
Go to the page you want in English ie:
Then in the top right hand side, select the language you want
Page will reload with the SAME page but in the language you selected
You can then see what it says - and download the print PDF version with the links in the column on the right hand side for that specific language.
(unless it is not published/printed in the language you've selected)
I checked Romanian - and it appears to NOT include 'stocks and bonds', but it DOES include a 'Romanian' specific item regarding about being able to donate 2% of your income tax

Why is there such a 'high turnover' within the Jehovahs Witnesses?
by UnshackleTheChains ini happened to come across a time article in 2008. it was basically talking about the high turnover in american faiths.
it mentioned the jdubs and highlighted the following point.. an even more extreme example of what might be called "masked churn" is the relatively tiny jehovah's witnesses, with a turnover rate of about two-thirds.
that means that two-thirds of the people who told pew they were raised jehovah's witnesses no longer are — yet the group attracts roughly the same number of converts.

And, I've always thought, it kind of fits in with their theology. That Jehovah "calls" people doesn't really make sense if whole extended families stay jwshaha, yeah interesting - and you could almost reverse-the-principle as a proof that the JWs are wrong (on the assumption (?) that often the majority of JWs are JWs because of cross-generational family connections).
It's also interesting nowadays to look at various body of elders and ask: how many of them where 'born-in' supposed to 'converted' themselves?
My answer is that, nowadays, the vast majority of elders (in first-world countries) are actually 'born-ins'.
