  Broward Circuit Judge Jeffrey Levenson was wrong to keep a member of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, commonly known as Jehovah’s Witnesses, off the jury, according to the Fourth District Court of Appeal.

  The appeals court drew a distinction between common understanding of a group’s religious beliefs and an individual member's adherence to those beliefs.

  “The potential juror stated that she would follow the law and gave no indication that she would allow her status as a Jehovah’s Witness to affect her decision-making at all,” the court ruled. “In moving to strike her, the state merely relied on the juror’s membership in a religion without any testimony that it would actually affect her service as a juror.’’

  this was on the front page of freep.com this morning - sadly there are some factual errors in this article that people will jump on (not allowed to go to college was in original article for instance - hopefully the reporter will correct it).

  The tragic story of a murder-suicide involving a husband and wife, and their two adult children, in Keego Harbor - a 3,000 population city some 25 miles to the north of Detroit in Michigan, US - initially broke when police found their bodies at their home on Friday morning, February 16, 2018.

  The first, and only, inkling that there may be a 'Jehovah's Witness' connection to the story was later the same day when an article on the website of The Detroit News mentioned that: "Neighbors John and Jackie Tristani... said in one of their first meetings with Lauren Stuart a few years ago she attempted to 'recruit' them into the Jehovah’s Witnesses."

  It was then, two days later, on Sunday, February 18, that video emerged on YouTube of a family friend, Joyce Taylor, crashing the start of the Sunday morning meeting at a local Kingdom Hall. This was then picked up over the following days by various news-outlets.

  kenneth cook was a "helper" in the writing department, which is apparently a role for those of the great crowd.

  watchtower 15/10/15 p.3 states that helpers are of the great crowd.

  That WT above, does NOT list Cook as a helper.

  I don't believe that it is rigid that the GB helpers are specifically 'other sheep' and NOT 'annointed' - I suspect that the 2015 article was written the way it was because, at that time, all the helpers where, coincidently, 'other sheep'.

  When the GB helper came in to being, the WT repeatedly highlighted that:

  Therefore it has been decided to invite several helpers, mainly from among the great crowd, to share in the meetings of each of the Governing Body Committees, that is, the Personnel, Publishing, Service, Teaching, and Writing Committees. Under the direction of the Governing Body committee members, these assistants will take part in discussions and will carry out various assignments given them by the committee.
