Second in the Medal Table - Well Done TeamGB
by konceptual99 incan't believe it - gb is currently second in the medal table, with more golds and silvers combined than even china.
given the size of the nation it's an incredible achievement and we have won in some sports where other countries typically dominate.
i can't imagine we will stay in second but i am happy to enjoy the moment.. well done to the whole of team gb!.

The aim is quite simple: to ensure Great Britain becomes the first home nation to deliver more medals at the following away Games.
At London 2012, Team GB won 65 medals (of which 29 where GOLD).
UK Sport, which determines how public funds raised via the national lottery and tax are allocated to elite-level sport, has pledged almost £350m to Olympic and Paralympic sports between 2013 and 2017 – up 11% on the run-up to London 2012.
Those sports that have fuelled the rise in Britain’s medal-table positions over the past eight years – athletics, boxing and cycling, for example – were rewarded with increased investment.
Sports that failed to hit their 2012 medal target – including crowd-pleasers such as wrestling, table tennis and volleyball – either had their funding reduced or cut altogether
So far, on average, each GB medal at the Rio Olympics has cost £5.5m in investment
(golf, rugby sevens and tennis received no funding)

What's interesting though are the apparent concerns regarding new Chair, Alexis Jay, as highlighted at end of the article:
Meanwhile concerns have been raised about the appointment of Alexis Jay, who was on a panel of advisers to the inquiry, as the new chair.
Phil Frampton, of the White Flowers campaign, an umbrella organisation for survivors’ groups, said: “The new chair of the child sex abuse inquiry, Alexis Jay, has 30 years of working as a senior social work executive in Scotland.
“Has anybody thought to ask the home secretary what will happen when Ms Jay is called up before the Scottish child abuse inquiry, either as a witness or as a defendant, in regard for example to cover-ups, failures to act, etc?
“Given Alexis Jay is very likely to have to answer to the Scottish child sex abuse inquiry, this could leave the UK [independent child abuse inquiry] in ruins again.
“There is once again a clear conflict of interest, imperiling the authority of the inquiry and its very existence. After three bungled appointments, the government is totally irresponsible with the inquiry – to such an extent one can only draw conclusions that Theresa May and Co have been willing it to fail from the off.”

IN June 2013, the brochure Jehovah’s Witnesses and Disaster Relief became available. It was especially prepared for government officials in the United States who oversee emergency management efforts. The brochure describes some of the relief efforts that we have carried out since the mid-1940’s. It also features a map that illustrates the global scale of our relief work. “Brothers serving on Disaster Relief Committees use this brochure to establish contacts with key officials in disaster-prone areas well before disasters strike,” explains an elder who is involved in organizing relief efforts. “When such officials are already familiar with our relief activities, it becomes easier for us to obtain from them the permissions needed to enter areas where disasters have occurred.” -
