Osteen: "the city didn't ask us to become a shelter"
by ShirleyW inhe's sounding more like a dub everyday, sounds like one of their lame excuses.. i don't think the city asked the furniture and the mosque that opened to shelter people, and a pastor, one who supposedly helps people was waiting for the city?
he's just lying, that's why that response reminds me of the borg.
just my religious rant for the day, can't stand religious people of stature who spew out false statements..

The org tightens the noose on J.W.'s thinking.
by The Fall Guy inthe manipulative use of language by the org in the upcoming circuit assembly talks is as good - or better - than any advertising conglomerate could devise.
the mind-shaping wording is clearly used in order to deter critical thinking by the sheep.. face bad reports as jesus did (9 min.
note to the speaker: explain why spiritually mature people do not become ashamed of the good news or dismayed when faced with negative propaganda.

Sugar Shane: I read the PDF copy. Is this something that the R&F would normally have access to?
No and no.
Firstly, ONLY the person giving the actual talk would have access to the actual PDF talk outline (plus a couple of higher-ups organising the meeting) - the R&F elders and publishers would not have access to it.
Secondly, the outline is for a talk that is ONLY being given to regular pioneers - the R&F elders and publishers will not even hear or know about this talk.

Hey zeb - have you been to New York?
The Brooklyn Bridge is a high bridge and on the Brooklyn side it stays high and goes right past the Bethel.
I think the first exit (via stairs, at Washington Street) is shown in the picture below (left hand side) - thus to get to bethel (right hand side), you would need to exit and turn round and 'go back' on yourself walking along fairly blank roads (no shops, not much residential) - I think the only ones who would do that would be JWs - every one else would just carry-on walking away and doing their best to get home.
Therefore I would have thought that there would have been a very limited footfall of people going past the actual bethel?
Yes, bethelites could have gone out to help at the exit points from the Bridge (there is another further away), may be some did? may be they could have done more?
But I think the vision some may have of thousands of thousands of people walking directly past the front (or side) entrance of bethel as they escape Manhattan is wrong.

ANGOLA - JW Regional Convention target of attack.
by EdenOne inaccording to news sources in luanda, angola (read it here, although it's in portuguese language), a regional convention of the jw's taking place this weekend at the outskirts of capital luanda was targeted yesterday, friday, by what may be described as a 'terrorist attack'.. more than 400 attendees (mostly female) passed out in rapid succession in the vicinity of a toilet at the convention place.
reportedly, toxic gas devices were planted there by 3 young members of unita, the main political party that opposed mpla, the dominant regime party in angola since its independence in 1975.
43 people were rushed to the hospital and a few remain there, under medical surveillance.

shepherdless: of being a heartless individual
sorry, I'm definately not meaning that: your wife (and you) where only the messengers - she was only passing on information she had been forwarded on to her by the 'local branch'
I understood that your wife had been given virtually no details, just a very brief 'nothing serious' had happened.
My point being that I don't think that if your wife had read the report on jworg first, she would have labelled it as 'nothing serious' - even if the whole 'toxic gas' escape had been an accident.
Remember the 'worldly' news reports were being labelled by some JWs as 'FAKE' (and not just as 'unconfirmed') prior to the jworg article - yet the basic details all match up.
BTW I think that the non-jworg article say that around only 45 went to hospital.

McFarland Lawsuit
by John Davis ini am not sure if anyone heard but it does appear that the mcfarland v watchtower lawsuit has been settled.
the court only shows that it was settled so there was no longer a need for a status conference.
that is all that i know on this.

Woman accuses member of West Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lorain of sexual abusenewsnet5, Wednesday, July 31, 2013
A former member of the West Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lorain filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the congregation, alleging she was sexually abused by one of the church leaders.
"I want to expose how they treat children and how they do not protect them," Elizabeth McFarland, 26, said at a news conference in Cleveland.
McFarland claims Scott Silvasy, who served as a "Ministerial Servant," gained her trust then sexually abused her for five years, beginning when she was 9 years old. She said Silvasy committed suicide on her 16th birthday.

shepherdless: My wife said she had seen a notification from the local branch to the effect that nothing serious happened.
You could always ask her what she means by 'nothing serious' - but maybe it is a 'relative' thing, how would we have viewed it if it had happened at an event that we where attending....
FYI... from the official JW website...
ANGOLA: Witnesses at Convention in Angola Overcome by Toxic FumesJW.org , Tuesday, August 29, 2017
On Friday morning, August 25, 2017, during a convention being held at the Viana Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Luanda, Angola, 405 attendees were rendered unconscious when assailants released toxic gas in the main auditorium and separate restroom facilities. Fortunately, the gas was not lethal and no one was killed. The victims were taken to local hospitals and most were treated and released within a few hours. The incident is being investigated by the local authorities; three men were arrested and taken into police custody on Friday afternoon.
The branch office in Luanda reports that all of the victims are recovering well. It was noted that those in attendance did not panic and worked together to care for the injured. In cooperation with recommendations from the local police, the Friday afternoon session of the convention was canceled. However, the convention resumed successfully without major incident on Saturday, August 26, and Sunday, August 27. Attendance reached a peak of over 12,000, and 188 were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Vidiot: Wait, seriously? WTF?
Yeah, apparently so.
The story has been overtaken by Hurricane Harvey in the news - but, yeah, I also understand that TV's Dateline is interested and was taking video footage for a prospective TV documentary on the case....

Repository for JW "experiences" with Hurricane Harvey
by sir82 init's only a matter of time of course..... jw rumor mills will start up soon, with stories of how jws were "first on the scene" as the flood waters receded..... how the red cross and/or us national guard and/or doctors without borders and/or [you name it] were marveling at just how "organized" the jws are..... how zealous jws were pulling their trolleys thru ankle-deep water to "offer comfort" to victims, by giving them - sandwiches?
bottled water?
to offer them comfort by giving them 16 page "magazines" to read in their spare time..... so as the stories start to come in, you can "deposit" those little nuggets of bs here.. once collected, we'll wrap them in a pretty bow and flush them away where other instances of pure manure go..

stan livedeath: what has my wifes job got to do
sorry, I only mentioned it because you told us about yourself. In this thread. In a post that highlighted the fact by itself:

stan livedeath: thank goodness the regulatory authority--CQC--has teeth !
I see that the CQC said that Polars on the Isle of Wight "requires improvement".... and it is closing down now next month:
Isle of Wight care home closure blamed on rising costs and falling feesIsle of Wight County Press, Thursday, June 15, 2017
Government austerity cuts have led to the closure of a Newport care home, with the loss of 49 jobs.
Somerset Care said it was closing Polars, at Staplers Road, because it had been running at a loss for some time, partly due to low care fees paid by the Isle of Wight Council, living wage increases and building maintenance costs - with no signs of improvement.
The company was working with the council to find new homes for Polars' 29 residents before it closes on September 12.
Polars lost £170,000 last year. It costs £745 a week to care for each resident, but Somerset Care said it only received an average of £557 from the council. The spokeswoman said: "Somerset Care is a not-for-profit company with no shareholders. Any surplus is reinvested in the business. Unfortunately we cannot sustain loss-making services without jeopardising the viability of the whole company."
