i've been lurking for about 3 months now and thought i'd better finally sign up.

you have all been an immense help to me as i have come to realize that this isn't the truth so i want to say a great big thank you!

what a crazy, emotional ride it is to finally face the truth about the doubts that i have carried for many years.

I know this is part of the process and you have all gone through it... but it hurts so bad.

For everyone who awakens, there is an accompanying pain.

The pain of:

- How could we be so naive for so long?

- How badly have I wrongly treated others?

- Whom will we lose?

- If not WTS, then whom?

Based on my experience, I would put the awakening process to take between 6 months and 12 months.

However, it is like a lengthy first marriage that ends/has ended. It will still always be part of your psyche.

WT elders are like clergy and have the same confidentiality privileges as Catholic priests regarding confidential communications by parishioners.

They do owe Candace $7 million in compensatory damages. That was upheld.

If it were announced today that Candace was awarded $7 million in compensatory damages, would you be complaining?

If this is correct, I would say that this is a great announcement.

How does a wbts JC supercede the law of the land ? In the U.S, a defendent is allowed an attorney.If he can't afford one,the state is obligated to provide him/her with one. Where does a religious body get off by hog tying a defendent in its kangaroo court, in not allowing him recourse to a lawyer or another person conversant with JW teachings or its history.

There is an expression: "judge, jury, and executioner."
What makes the JC even worse is that they are also the police (investigator).

Pretty messed up.

Not a chance. If they posted this or did a press release, dub's would start researching.

The WT argued that this was not allowed, single brothers are not assigned with single sisters. They could not back up this assertion. Thus compensatory damages were upheld.

I saw a dub male (60ish) working with a 11/12 year old girl in the Memorial invite work. Later said to myself that I should have taken a photo.

Struggling

i read here regularly and although i haven't joined in, i really appreciate all the wonderful contributions from those who are willing to share their experiences.... .

i was a convert.

i won't go into the whole history ( perhaps another day) - my story could easily be recognised in the small town where i live, with my husband.. so, we stopped going to the meetings around a period of time when we were going through severe emotional difficulties - at that point, we needed unconditional family love - the hectic, forced jw dinner parties and social occasions gave no real comfort.

We've gone from being a "much loved" popular couple to having no support network in our home town. We are 60 years old. No children. Out in the cold. We invested in a "family" that is not family unless you swallow the same lies and deceits.

That is horribly sad.

Outsiders cannot imagine the idiocy of the JW "new world order.," the "spiritual paradise" that you word well - "invested in." It is/was an investment.

I'm in a larger city, so I have optimism.

If in your hometown, can you connect with people from your past, past workmates, past schoolmates, etc.? (Don't start explaining the cult to them!!)

Begs the question - so how should we know when elders should be viewed just as men, and when not?

If this guy doesn't want to be DF'd for apostasy, he should keep his mouth shut and let the elders do most of the talk, otherwise they are just getting more an more ammo on him to DF him.

Yes, as in virtually all JC's, they want you to start talking and expose yourself.

They never start out with: this is what we heard and who we heard it from.

Its going down.

When a cat runs down stairs it raises its tail to keep balance.

As it runs upstair its tail stays low as balance is not needed.

Just expeimented with my cat. That is what she does.

She is a fit nine year old. She knows what she is doing.

Try it if you own a cat.

Based on watching cats all my life, I would agree with this.

Cats use their tails tremendously for guidance and balance, which is particularly necessary when going down.

Questions about Non JWs attending a JW baptism

i attended my brother and sister in laws' baptism at a kingdom hall a number of years ago.

i was [am] not a jw so when i arrived i was bombarded with attention from the flock to which i politely stated that i was there to see my brother and his wife.

it seemed like the distraction was intentional.

Photos are allowed of the baptism and during the talk.

Not during the 2 questions (vows), nor prayers.

Same at weddings.
