my father died a couple of months ago.
he'd been ill for some time and had many health scares and heart troubles over the years but always managed to keep on going.
then one time he didn't.. i'm glad i got to know him again and spend some more time with him after so many years missed because of the wts but those years will always be lost forever.

The annual three-day convention for Jehovah's Witnesses takes place at the Sudbury Arena starting this Friday.
The religious group will discuss “the keys to family happiness” during their 2015 “Imitate Jesus!” Convention.
“The Witnesses’ three-day convention series will demonstrate how Jesus’ example can give parents and children the tools to build stronger and more united families,” a press release said.
“The program will also include a stimulating examination of Jesus’ famed Sermon on the Mount. Wayne Holroyd, a spokesman for the convention program, explains: 'Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount offers timeless advice that can help parents to better use their time and resources to build a more secure and loving family environment.'”

It could be the org is doing asset control in preparation for upcoming legal battles.
It is possible - however, those declines started 8 years ago. The only real legal threat in Canada was within the past year.
It looks more like it took several whacks to their corporate skull to fully realize that their "publishing" (books and mags) is truly and fully dead.
Because of their abrupt cessation of printing (Canada was printing all of the English for North America), they have given themselves a reprieve - but the glory days are definitely over.

They list $55,000,000 in "other liabilities." Who do they owe this money too, I suspect its other Watchtower corporations, where it would be listed as an asset.
They also list an expense line for $60,000,000 for "supplies and other purchased assets." That's a lot of supplies. Again we don't know who they paid the money to, or for what.
Both of those lines are very steady. (Most would be shocked if Watch Tower DIDN'T funnel money from country to country.) Line 4330 is quite constant - between 48 million and 57.5 million over a SEVEN-YEAR period.
Likewise, line 4891 is not too remarkable - between 39 million and 63 million over five years. (Where or how the supplies are paid doesn't matter.)
Any accountant or investor would have the most interest in "liquid" assets - which have declined year after year (reprieve in 2016) for seven years from 94 million down to 17 million.
Likewise, the corresponding "bottom line" (assets less liabilities) has plunged year after year (also a reprieve in 2016) for seven years from 117 million down to 6 million. There isn't an investor anywhere that would put a dime into a corporation with those numbers.

Although the 2016 jump from 55k to 105k isn't mind-blowing, the 2017 increase to 234k must raise a few eyebrows. Presumably these are not bank charge increases, but interest cost increases.
Firstly, WT tightwads are very reluctant to pay interest (unless it is a shadow arrangement).
Secondly, with 16 million still in cash, why are they borrowing at all, and why are they increasing the borrowing?

However, it has been constant for 7 years - so for the most part, a non-entry.
a newly published article by british sociologist david voas argues jehovah's witnesses may be about to experience a collapse in numbers.
contrary to claims by american sociologist rodney stark who predicts strong future growth for jehovah's witnesses, voas shows that jehovah's witnesses' efforts at recruiting new members have become increasingly unsuccessful over the past few decades: the rate of increase has steadily declined, and the number of hours each publisher must preach to produce an extra convert has gone up substantially.
voas suggests a reason for the stagnation may be that there is a natural limit to the number of people in a given population that are susceptible to conversion to sectarian groups like jehovah's witnesses - the 'carrying capacity' of the population, and that the limit has largely been reached.
I expect the reality will be somewhere north of collapse but well short of thriving.
