Thinking about moving to Cincinnati...
by DanTheMan inmy employers' intranet website recently posted for a position located in cincinnati (which is about a 2 hour drive from columbus, where i live).. the requirements/skills listed on the posting seemed right up my alley, so i submitted my app online.
today i get an email from the hr lady asking me when i can interview.. i'm so nervous about this!
i've never lived far from home, and i'm very close with my family, to be honest they're all i've got, i don't have friends or a social circle to speak of.

"Working" Interview, wish me luck!!!
by maybesbabies ini have a "working" interview tomorrow for a really great, high-paying job!!!
i'm so excited, just last week i was despairing that i hadn't recieved a single response to all the resumes i'd sent.
the only problem is that i'm a smoker, and it's a smoke free workplace, so i have to hide my dirty little habit!!!

Thanks for the encouragement, all!!! I told them I smoked in the first interview, but they said I'd have to quit when I started there. I haven't been able to yet, but I'm going to try.

Anyone here ever been homeless?
by maybesbabies ini am curious, our family was homeless on and off for several years.
i am trying to communicate to my little brother that growing up this way does not preclude one from a normal life.
is anyone willing to share a story that i can pass on to him??

Thanks for sharing, kaykay. I wish you all the best, and I hope things get better for you real soon! It's amazing how easy it is to find yourself out in the street, especially someone in your shoes, just coming out of the military. You'd expect to get a little, having given so much. But the world is harsh, and no one gives a damn!!! Well, excluding the wonderful people on this board, of course!

Thanks Mike, Frannie, and Valis!
Being without a place to live, not being sure when you'll get your next meal, being truly poor, that can be a good experience if you learn from it. It can make you more determined to succeed and never go back there.
This is so true!!! I think that made me more appreciative of life as a whole! I'm trying to help my brother see this, as he's been very depressed and withdrawn. He has a lot of emotional issues to overcome (as do we all!), but I'm trying to show him that there's a brighter side to all that's happened to us.
Ya there is hope, but you have to be motivated and ready to look into all your options if you really want to change your situation for the better.
I think this is part of the problem, he's so convinced (partly the fault of my father) that there's no reason to go on, to do better. Part of it is the "Armageddon" mindset, and part of it is that he just turned 18 and has never known another way. He and my father have an apartment, but the memories are still fresh, especially since he spent more of his life homeless than our other siblings did (my mother took him for a while, and she was living on the streets, while we had an apartment with our father). It's tough to convey hope to another person, but I'm so worried about what could happen if he loses all hope. I don't want him to do anything drastic, if you know what I mean. Thank you all for your input!!!! -

Anyways, if anyone wants to wish me luck, say a prayer, send some good vibes, or whatever cosmic encouragement you are comfortable with, I would greatly appreciate it!!! I'm so nervous I could puke!!!

Thank you, Narkissos and Insomniac!
Growing up, I had a "nomadic" family-not technically homeless
We were in similar situations at times, ie: tents, a tent trailer once, living with other people. To me, it all counts, as you don't actually have a place where you feel safe and comfortable.
When I escaped from my stepfather at the age of 15, I crashed on people's couches and in spare rooms until I finally got my own place.
Wow, we have quite a lot in common!!! I was abandoned in California by my father at the same age, and did the same thing!!!
Thank you all, this really is helping!!!!
