If Warwick .....
by TheFadingAlbatros inif warwick .... tiny theocratic village, would have been designed long before the beginning of its construction partly made by jw volunteers, for being sold after its achievement to one or more worldly organizations, how should be the reaction of the average jehovah's witness anxious to remain attached to the seven holy ones already sitting on their heavenly thrones ?
well they would have no other choice than to rejoice and to meditate on the following new light:.
at that time, the lifesaving.

They've since used that same quote in the daily text as well as this week's CLAM meeting. They're really beating this one into the flock these days. -

It amazes me...
by punkofnice in..to think about how the congregations actually function....even down to the individual level.. the biggest bully on the boe (or his wife), controls the show.. ones within the congregation are treated like they're dirt and still they return.
stockholm syndrome?.
i've heard ones say that 'jehovah(tm) will sort it all out.

What am I trying to say? I wonder why more don't just say, 'fe6k you eejits!' and just walk away. I should have but the pull of family and mind cleansing(tm 1953) kept me thinking it was the right religion.
Looks like you answered your own question.
It is amazing, though, that you've got 8 million people all under the assumption that the problems they see are merely local aberrations and not characteristic of the whole.

Demonic art in the watchtower?
by Lost and adrift indoes anybody remember a rumour or maybe it was a truth?
?...something about hidden pictures or symbols in the artwork of the watchtower.
was it one of those urban legends?

I would tend to think it is either crappy artwork, or some bored Bethelite seeing what he could get away with, before jumping to the conclusion that the WTS is endorsing the black mass.
This.
There's just so much that's demonstrably wrong with this cult that focusing on some perceived "demonic" images in the artwork seems to be not only a waste of time but could possibly steer someone away from learning TTATT when they see that us apostates are insane and obsessed with pointing out every minute perceived imperfection. If you want to complain about the artwork, there's still plenty to complain about - like a little girl falling into a pit at armageddon because she clung to her dog.

Cappytan - in these cases its more specifically pareidolia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia
Turns out that humans have an entire subsection of the brain that's dedicated to recognizing faces. Its much better, from an evolutionary perspective, to see a face where none exists (false positive) than to miss a face that was real.

Women in this Org are looking for a Father Figure
by xjwsrock inthis is a rant mainly in response to my wife's reaction to the stupid clam meeting last night.
bear in mind, while i am not sexist, i am also not politically correct.
.... it is no secret that the women in this organization outnumber the men.

As a woman I never needed to have that father figure feeling of safety. But I guess that is cause I am young!
Or maybe that's a part of why you were able to wake up - you don't need it.

Kevin Smith on Prince (2013) .... verrryyyy in-ter-esting! I think the jWS
by talesin in... may be rotting his brain with the jw crazy.
: ( so sad for this great artist to be engulfed by the jw - the crazy is so apparent.
*sigh* always loved prince, but the jws have really done a number on his head.
-
OneEyedJoe
That was pretty funny, thanks.
On prince, something tells me he's a JW because he's a bit insane....I don't know if it would be correct to blame his oddities on his being a JW. Certainly it doesn't help, but I suspect it's not the primary reason.

Another Sex Offender cover up
by Coded Logic ina jehovahs witness who got sexual kicks from strangling young girls went unpunished for years after his activities were covered up by the congregation at the warwick church he attended.but perverted ian pheaseys past finally caught up with him when one of his victims went to the police having become concerned about him getting a job at a hospice.the warwick resident was jailed for five years after pleading guilty at warwick crown court to assaulting one girl causing her actual bodily harm and two of indecently assaulting other girls.the 54 year-old of langcliffe avenue, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and given a sexual harm prevention order restricting his contact with children.the offences pheasey admitted dated back to the 1990s when he was a member of the congregation at the kingdom hall of jehovahs witnesses in the woodloes area.his first victim was attacked in the kingdom hall library, where pheasey was the librarian at the time, when the seven-year-old girl went to get a book.prosecutor nicholas taplow told the court how pheasey closed the door, and as she reached for the book, he grabbed her .

... the response "we despise child molesters" by the society is truly getting more and more ridiculous everyday.

As shocking and disgusting as this case was, do we really need 35 threads about it?

Have we become what we despise so much?
by Tenacious inthe majority of members who tend to join this forum have been hurt possibly even traumatized sometimes to the point of wanting to end their lives.
upon joining the forum, new members are welcomed with open arms, welcome messages start pouring in, "likes" are freely given, a false sense of security is promoted where a member is free to speak his mind without having to worry about the wt gestapo.
again, similar to how potential converts are welcomed and "love bombed" upon entering a kh for the first time.

All social groups are going to have some similarities. In any group the admission of a new member generates some excitement. The difference there is that here it seems to be genuine - I've never seen Simon or some other "leader" going around telling us we need to be more welcoming to new ones or telling us how to do that. In cults there are rules about how to live bomb people and you're judged by the group if you don't participate in the live bombing.
Furthermore, people can leave the forum without being punished by the group. I still talk to a few that have been booted from the forum for whatever reason, and I suffer no consequences for it. Others have left for years and maintained friendships with forum members or return and receive no judgement for having been absent.
Cults exist because they're fed by normal social behavior. It's how we're wired, so you should expect to see similarities everywhere. They'll just be at a much lower magnitude.

Does anyone have the original copy of the Awake 2015 Jan before it was changed?
by jwfacts injan used a famous scientist to garner misleading support for creation, quoting rama singh as saying "the opposition to evolution goes beyond religious fundamentalism and includes a great many people from educated sections of the population.
2015 jan p.3) whilst the quote is accurate, it misrepresents singh's intention.
singh continues in the same paragraph, "there are several reasons why facts of evolution are not easily comprehensible by the general masses.

Jwdaughter:
Personally, even if they completely removed the quote I would personally be inclined to interpret it as further dishonesty. Not because they just can't do right by me, but because:
1 most jws were out peddling hard copies with the quote still in.
2 the removal online would make it more difficult to demonstrate their dishonesty and they make no admission of the error. They need to print a retraction.
3 they waited long enough to fix it that most anyone who was going to read the article would've already done so. Again they need to print a retraction online and in a new awake magazine that would get equal viewing to the misquote.
There's a reason reputable news sources often have notes at the end of a story detailing the (usually relatively minor) updates that were made after it went online. It's part of their journalistic integrity that they not go around trying to erase their mistakes, hoping they go unnoticed.

Certain lies are acceptable per Watchtower. Where can I find that?
by FatFreek 2005 inwatchtower has defined certain circumstances where it's permissible to withhold certain facts, even telling an untruth.
like some outsider, or enemy, may not be deserving to know certain factual answers.. where can i find such quotations?.
