My moms Congo = 150/month. No mention of a one time Lump some payment. This is a wealthier area so I was surprised at how low it was.

What is your status???
by lrkr inmy family and i are planning a trip to a nice vacation area close to where my (active jw) parents and sister and brother in law live.
my family and i are not df'd, da'd or anything else- we just executed a successful fade and havent looked back.
sooo- i've expressed my interest in spending some time with them on vacation (why not- right??).

My brother performed a successful fade about ten years ago. My family (dad is an elder) include him in all family functions. Where it might get interesting is if he decides to celebrate Christmas. He just had a baby and I would think he would want to do that since he doesn't view himself as a witness anymore. That might put the rest of my family in an interesting predicament. If any one ever suggests that we need to start treating him differently it will cause some major divisions. I will never shuN him. Now I imagine that if he had ever taken a stand against the Borg it would be a whole different story.

Detroit International Convention, June 6-8 - IS the public invited?
by Faithful Witness inmy mom was worrying out loud, about inviting the "public" to this event.
she told me they were announcing that people were not booking their hotels fast enough, and "we don't want to make the jw's look bad!
she told me about a promotional video they all watched, full of propaganda about the ford field house and all the arrangements that had been made for transportation and parking, and the city of detroit.

There is actually two conventions at ford field. First one is in June. The second in July. You could live in the territory of a hall that is going to the second. We are going in June. i have heard there is going to be 500 busses. We were pretty much told to go on a bus due to a lack of parking. Disabled parking is at cobo arena which is five miles away so people will have to drive there and then get bussed to the arena. I'm hoping for total chaos!

Prodigal Son
by exwhyzee ini thought this was kinda' funny...a friend of ours just posted a instagram photo of the guy who played the prodigal son (josh orton) in the jw video, giving the sunday talk this morning at the hall he is attending.. there are a lot of ooooh and aaaaah comments about this guys celebrity status and people claiming to have known him or been in the same congregation as he was.. one of the people who commented on the photo is the on again off again sarcastic jw brother-in-law of our friend.. he said " nice to see that the prodigal son is doing so much better now".

Ray Franz - is he REALLY a hero?
by baltar447 inon one hand, he's enlightnened many to the internal circle jerk that is the governing body (circa the 70s).. but if there's one reason that can be pointed to for the jws becoming full on cult, it's ray franz.
without him leaving in the manner he did, and stirring the pot, they might not have change the rule (retroatively i might add) on shunning of disassociated ones.
they specifically changed that so they could remove him and eliminate his influence.. his actions single handedly have created the situation where we have to fade, evade, leave marriages, say goodbye to family, just because we don't buy the jw bullsh!t anymore.

by skeeter1 inwas there a decline in the number of jws in your congregation?
if so, by how many has it gone down and what is the time frame?
(i don't go and haven't gone i a long time.

I am still in and the two congos in our kh are about the same size as they were 25 years ago. Very stagnant. Any new ones usually seem to be not quite right in the head. Our area jws do seem to have a bit of a baby boom though. That may be the best chance at growth if they can find a way to keep them in.

This is a really interesting discussion. A lot of great points were made. I believe the next five years are going to be very interesting to watch the Borg. I have a feeling that this new breed of GB has become power hungry. They love the attention they are receiving. They are definitely not afraid of making bold moves. Perhaps they will overplay there hand in some aspect And this May drive more away.
Many jdubs are my parents age. Early sixties. They already stuck thru 75. For them to throw in the towel now would be about the equivalent to saying that there entire life was a waste. For the generation after them though...just maybe they will leave in masses at some point.

Do you think JWs are dangerous, if yes why? If not, why?
by suavojr inpersonally the jws to me are not dangerous.
on the other hand, many do think they are in fact a dangerous cult.

Suavojr... Take your time. Don't make any rash decisions. I am still in the Borg. I will leave but I'm not sure when. Make sure that you are ready for the repercussions.
