666 or 616? Do we have to choose a number or could it be both?
by fulltimestudent ini'm sure that most longer term readers on this list know that the use of the number in the revelation was a 'code' using the jewish concept that assigned number values to the letters of the hebrew alphabet.. a promoter of modern judaism ( dr. eliyahu lizorkin-eyzeneberg) explains:.
today gematria is well-known as a jewish interpretive method that assigns numerical values of hebrew letters to words, phrases and/or sentences.
then, by adding them together, seeks to determine their deeper meaning.

Why Is YHWH Used Regularly In OT and NEVER in NT?
by minimus inand if the name jehovah is that important why is it that jesus christ never use that name in a record of scriptures?.

Tetragramaton was transliterated to PIPI in early Greek texts and then discarded is one theory proffered,
Which means actually that the Almighty couldn't figure out how to preserve His own name until FW Franz came along,
(This being "the nations shall know" guy)
Go figure

There's official stupid and grass roots stupid in this, one of the grass roots (especially popular among women) is that men with beards are "hiding something"
Please bring that wall nearer so I can bang my head against it some more
Oh wait, I left, I don't have to to that anymore :)

It's amusing to think that the Guy in charge of the UNIVERSE cares whether I have a beard or not, Honestly, maybe when he's not critiquing my socks lol, quite touching really, I would have thought Him too busy, :0)

"It's a cult, mom."
by schnell inmy mom has been extensively texting me, trying to argue that the un ngo scandal is not a big deal and that the child abuse scandal is to instigate the great tribulation.
even worse, she kept saying how great it is that the gb is imperfect and fallible and that teaching changes all the time.
maybe it was aggravation or impatience, but i finally just snapped and told her, "it's a cult, mom.".

You cannot reason away a belief from anyone who desperately wants to believe it;
Applies not just to jdubs, applies to everybody,
If this fact could be changed what kind of a world would it be?
:0)

RANT: Isn't Cognitive Dissonance Amazing?
by Sorry inthis is piggybacking off my previous post (about my 'personal study').
while i haven't been a long time member, i'm sure if you have my posts you'll know that i'm disenchanted with the wt and am just grunting and bearing until i have a stable enough support system to break away.
however, lately i'm just getting extremely angry at nearly everything that's going on.

I'm Agnostic now but when I was thinking this thing out on my own years ago, I was reading the Gospels and I thought, these guys are modern day Pharasees, heartless, legalistic, a self-serving machine, there are some good people, but they can't think normally any more, I'm just so happy that I still can!!! :)

Why are JWs so sensitive to criticism?
by Half banana ini remember a roman catholic priest acknowledging on the bbc that the outrageously anti-clerical tv comedy father ted was a humorous mocking of his church but an acceptable thing.. try mocking the jw religion to a believer and the result is so very different.. just why is it that jehovah's witnesses can never take even the faintest hint of criticism of their religion?.

Some believe that if you criticize "Jehovah's Anointed (People)" it is the same as criticizing Jehovah himself, images of she bears ripping up children come to mind, Ah what a loving creator!

Is " Brazen Conduct"TM a scriptural term? we would never want to SARCASM ALERT go beyond the things written, we might end up having to actually start a publishing company :)

The Debate Is Over...
by JW_Rogue infor years theologians and historians have researched who the historical person known as jesus was and how much of the biblical account could be verified.
countless books have been written going into great detail.
this has been a controversial subject with some even claiming that jesus never existed.

If anyone would like to pursue this I suggest the writings and Web presence of Dr Richard Carrier, Columbia :)

What do you mean JWS don't do research, haven't you heard of the WatchTower Publications Indexes? :)
