  Why Do People Become JWs?

  i was born in the religion but why on earth do people join this religion?

  There's a danger of overgeneralizing of course, but I would like to add a couple of things, men (and women) are often looking for answers to life and if there's something that ties everything quite neatly together there's an attraction, men like games and puzzles a lot, so a people that claim to solve, Daniel, Ezekiel and REVELATION are HUGE, there was a time when alot of women were home alone with babies and small children, so regular company coming by was welcomed, for what it's worth those coming out of the territory were almost always pretty young and POOR,

  had the misfortune of stopping by the "regional" convention yesterday.

  i promised my daughter i would come to sunday afternoon so she wouldnt have to ride home with her mother.... holy crap it was weird!

  im sure all of this has been covered on the forum but to actually see it.... just wow.

  I noticed the dress change at my last conventions, over the six decades that I was in the people's dress had a quasi Amish feel to it, I had no real opinion about it but there was this certain feeling that I liked from the way they dressed, I recall enough brothers in sports jackets, now, the vast majority were wearing black suits, I can't even think of another setting where men would be dressed like this, I mentioned this to my Uber-Elder son who went into an apologetic involving black going so well in all seasons :) (absolutely nothing can be remarked upon) Changes yes, but creepy changes, I'm not a fan and would now be embarassed to bring an "interested" one,

  i cant believe what i'm hearing... actually, nothing surprises be about this cult anymore.. didn't they say to the judge in the arc that they dont discourage college?.

  B: I'm reminded of Bill Nye touring The Ark Project with Ken Ham, they were debating a number of points as they walked when they came upon a number of school aged kids, (this caught my attention as I have two jw grandchildren) Nye listened to their indoctrinated nonsense but he didn't engage them, instead he said: "I want to really encourage you kids to go to University"

  C: The leaders of the jw religion are calculating and evil

  D: I'm outraged

  E: jws are apparently mindless puppets, note how the audience applauds whenever he raises his voice even at inappropriate times,

  (if you're in University you're "accountable to Jehovah for this" so get down on your knees and pray for forgiveness (implied) )

  Study with an Elder - propose a question.

  hello there.. as some of you might remember i am keeping my facade up by "studying" with an elder.

  this study however is more of a session where i put hard questions about the org, doctrine and so on, on the table.

  the time has come for the next session in a couple of days, and i have quite frankly lost the will to keep digging up things that just shouldn't be happening.

  Astronomy! Carl Sagan wrote reams about evidential reasoning, on a bit of a tangent is all the evidence against a 4000 year old flood and 6000 year old man, complete skeletons of early man etc but you will have to read up somewhere, find a ready source of information hmm :) (there's this magic google button I've heard about)

  i am not sure i will go, since i just moved away from home a month ago.

  it is not cheap to travel 250km and pay for hotel here in denmark, and i am not exactly rich.

  Tacoma Dome Conventions

  so i went to visit my jw aging mother this week (i've been df'd for 40 years) and she told me she needs to give the people who are taking her to the convention $10 each day of the convention to cover gas?

  my uber elder cousin told her she needs to do this!!!

  Has anybody heard of Comp(limentary) hotel rooms at conventions, these are free rooms given to Watch Tower as a form of commission, remember BOOK ONLY THE ROOMS ON THE LISTS PROVIDED BROTHERS So, because of some mix-up we were assigned to one of these rooms and I was required to pay about $300 to WT, Huh? Why were empty comp rooms not assigned to hard up folks like single moms?

  Watchtower study today - best practice in word

  due to family reasons gorby was present today.. the watchtower study was about refugee's.. how to treat refugee's, jw and non believers, and help them spiritual, not financial.

  nothing new.. what i mentioned is the juridical message underneath the whole story.

  don't talk politics, listen to government regulations etc.. most bizar is that a whole congregation that normaly avoid giving any aid to people in need, this morning gave the best practice in word about what to do with refugee's.. if the subject was not that serious, this hypocracy could be funny.
