Are you color blind? Check this out.
by gumby incolor blindness tests.
the following are common tests used to detect color blindness.. can you read the numbers hidden in each square?
you should see 58 (upper left), 18 (upper right), e (lower left) and 17 (lower right).. if you cannot see any of the above numbers/letters, you may suffer from color blindness.

Do you charge your 18+ kids rent?
by tall penguin ini've been wondering what people think about this.
as soon as i turned 18 and had an income (it was disability but income just the same) my parents began to charge me room and board.
is this common practice?

Where I live in Britain its expect that as soon a son/daughter is working that they contribute to the expense of the household.
I have known parents who take the money off their child but unknown to the child put it in a savings account for them.
One couple who did this from when their son started work at 18, till when their son got married at 30, they presented him with £10,000.

HAD A LAUGH AT THE LITERATURE COUNTER!
by stillAwitness inso i'm at the literature counter last night picking up my latest magazines (that are used for floor mats in my car when its raining) and there are these 2 bible students (mom and daughter) who are studying with some sister in the hall.
(its obvious since they apparently have not got the memo yet on wearing pants to the meeting but i'm sure that's next chapter in the require brochure) anyways so here they are in front of me at the literature counter with a whole list of books and publications they want from the desk including the reasoning book, to tracts even to the wt cd-rom!
the brother looked obviously uncomfortable and gave them what they wanted till of course they asked for the cd-rom.

I was Literature Servant when they brought in the "donation" arrangement.
It was obvious in the first year that brothers/sisters were ordering stuff left, right and centre.
Deluxe Bibles where a big item, back then before the change, they cost £6 to buy. Many who could not afford them before, where soon getting them. Then bound volumes of Watchtower and Awake where the next item.
The CD-Rom came in not long afterwards, big rush on them as well.
Then as time went on we got letters from Bethel giving "suggested" costs for certain items. I think when I left the "charge" for a CD-Rom was £25 ($45). In the end they made it a "controlled stock" item which usually meant so many would be produced and only if you really wanted one should you order one. Sometimes such "controlled" items would take months to come.
I think also now that the CD is getting into "others" hands and being used for research against the WT they are a bit funny about who gets one.
Incidentlt we never had a box for money on the Literature counter. In the instructions we got was that it should be placed at the back of the Kingdom Hall next to the box for the Worldwide Work.

Why is drinking , Kosher for pregnant women?
by moshe ini know of all the strict dietary laws that g-d imposed on the jews.
the witnesses always preach about g-d's wisdom.
like, not eating pork protected his people from parasites.

It seems to me that ,if G-d truly values the life of the unborn he would have prohibited consumption of alcohol by pregnant women.
In ancient times it was safer to drink beer or wine than water. So GOD was showing concern for the unborn child who would be seriously affected by contaminated water.
Whats with the G-D ?

What was the ratio of witnesses in your town?
by JH inback in 1988, at the height of our activity here, we were 400 witnesses in a town of 30,000.. that was 1 witness per 75 population, which is alot !!!!!!.
today, the city merged with the town next door, and there is about 450 witnesses for 125,000 population.
this means only 1 witness per 270.. gee, did the witnesses decrease here !!!.

The town were my old congregation is the ratio works out at 321 per JW. Thats with two congregations in the town.
If we take the whole borough it then works out amongst 9 congregations at 451 per JW. I don't think I spoke to 321 people on the doors in all my 20 years as a JW.

Was I wrong to compose and send this email to an active JW?
by Honesty insee gr-engl interlinear.
see any greek-english interlinear.
the nwt translates the greek word "esti" as "is" every time it appears in the new testament (eg, mt 26:18, 38, mk 14:44, lk 22:38, etc), except in mt 26:26-28, mk 14:22-24, and lk 22:19 where it is rendered as "means", even though this word is translated as "is" in the kingdom interlinear.

From your first post on 17th Nov 0244hrs to the last one above 19th. 0029hrs.
That nigh on 48 hours.
How much time do you need to reply to ONE question.
Stop playing the Watchtower game.
Most of us exJW's used to play the same game. When asked an awkward question. Just say we'll be back with the answer. Then never return, or hope that next time you call on the person they had forgotten.
All you have done if confirm in everyones mind what a Watchtower slave you are and a very typical JW.

If spirits exist, and really communicate with some people, then why...
by AlmostAtheist inif spirits really exist, and really communicate with some people, then why don't the people ever ask anything that anyone cares about?!?!.
"when did you die?".
"did you own any pets?".

I agree.
A while ago one of the top mediums in the country was being interviewed on TV. The interviewer asked, "Why do mediums always seem to have spirit guides. Usually some Indian or similar."
Also like you he asked "Whats life like on the other side? Where is God? Do you see him?"
The medium didn't seem to know how to answer him.

While I was in the Pentacostal religion, I was told that women should always wear dresses, and that they shouldn't wear make-up
Again its that blanket word "Pentecostal" everyone who is Pentecostal must be the same as the church you knew.
Have you asked the women at work if they have to wear a dress, maybe they don't like wearing trousers or jeans.
I know many women who work in my place and do physical labour and wear dresses and they are not Pentecostals. How many housewives clean, cook and work around the house wearing a dress? Are they all Pentecostals? I remember my sister decorating a room wearing a skirt.
I have never heard of a Pentecostal church say women should only wear dresses and no makeup.
Plenty in my Pentecostal church come in slacks, Jeans and wearing make up.
It wouldn't matter what "religion" you looked at you will find some churches will have such petty little rules. Usually made up my their own local elders or pastor.
I know of churches, not Pentecostal either or JW, were the men must wear only white shirts and suits for church. They would have a fit if they came to mine, men dress in anything from suits to soccer kit.
I read on this forum how JW brothers had to wear white shirts only. Yet in my 20+ years as one I never wore a white shirt for a meeting or giving a talk. JW women had to wear a skirt/dress for meetings or on the ministry. But I knew plenty who wore jeans at home or slacks to work.
Again I have discovered it came down to how the Elders in different congregations viewed things and made their own petty little rules. Mainly to stamp their own authority on a congregation.

Prepare to be SHOCKED.
by nicolaou inrecent posts have encouraged us all to be more tolerant of others beliefs whether those are religious, atheist or anything in the middle.
fair enough.
still, that doesn't mean i'm going to go easy on all you believers, yes even you jw lurkers who are reading this.. .

.
Jehovah's Witnesses who see apostate literature as subversive and something to be suppressed show little faith in the resonableness of the beliefs they are so anxious to protect
Something that has been said by many.
Being shocked prepares our minds for seeing new and unfamiliar truths - even uncomfortable truths
Or how to deal with them so as to be capable of answering.
I have a friend who attended Bible College. One of the things that surprised him was that they had books by many atheists, books strongly crictical of the Christian faith. When he asked about them one of the teachers said "If you don't know what your opponent believes or teaches. How can you make a reply to them."
I can't say I have been tremendously shocked by anything I have read by such ones.
What shocked me was learning the real truth about the Watchtower organisation.
