Pacquiao vs Mayweather
by Clambake ini have a ton of filipino friends and this is huge.
manny is a huge underdog but it is literally good vs evil.
go manny .

Dislike Mayweather the man intensely, for the obvious reasons, but he's a marvellous boxer. Think he'll win on a split decision - just so they get the re-match. Manny's still got that lingering suspicion of being on the juice for a period, so I wouldn't call it 'good vs evil'... Wondering which Manny will turn up on the night, the more recent one hasn't looked anything like as impressive as the one who knocked Mosley out. Hope he does well all the same and tests Mayweather properly. -

New Scientology Documentary Banned In UK
by defender of truth inposted in: religionposted: april 19, 2015. new scientology documentary banned in uk for fears of libel claims.
when it comes to the scientologist movement, many are aware that, due to their money, power, and influence, it may not be the best idea to mess with the group for fear of libel claims and legal action.. .
a new scientology documentary, which was due to be aired in britain by sky atlantic, has now been banned for fears it will ruffle the wrong feathers.. the new film, directed by alex gibney, which claims that scientologys practices at their u.s. headquarters were abusive and violent, is shelved due to the fact that northern ireland is not subject to the 2013 defamation act.. john travolta, a scientologist himself, also slammed the new film, speaking to reporters about it, he said, ive been so happy with my experience in the last 40 years...that i really dont have anything to say that would shed light on (a documentary) so decidedly negative.. the leaders of the scientology church have also condemned the film about them, saying it is, one-sided, bigoted propaganda built on falsehoods and informed by former members whom it calls misfits.'.

Would think that any grounds for a libel suit would rest more with specific allegations against individuals (one in particular) in that documentary. There's nothing preventing fair comment or criticism of religions. Even those allegations could be broadcast in the UK if someone was willing to make it stand up as being true in court. Actually a shame no-one is willing to go to bat for it if the evidence is there to support the allegations. Unsuccessful libel cases can be spectacularly damaging (eg Irving vs Lipstadt/Penguin, Aitken vs Guardian/Granada).

It's not 'banned', Sky just don't want to be pulled into a legal battle over it and so won't show it. If they find another tv station willing to fight the ensuing libel case with them, the documentary makers will get it shown. Simplest defence of a libel case is 'it's true'. -

Theocratic Warfare - Is it in writing?
by cappytan ini'm just wondering if the theocratic warfare doctrine is anywhere in writing or if it's a word-of-mouth kind of thing where it's mentioned at elder's school, but not put in writing.. anyone?.

As well as numerous WT articles on it, I recall a couple found in Kingdom Ministries during the 90s. Most recently, it's slyly referenced in a letter addressed to Elders advising them that they should talk to authorities without getting permission from Brooklyn or Branch Office first. One can even look through child custody information for how it gets applied in custody cases.

Education is the process, not the end result. Mine doesn't stop. Keeping in touch with the latest ideas within my field is essential. I also learned how to hang wallpaper properly last week which was equally as useful.
Was fortunate in some ways to have hit the right age when a formal academic education (in theory at least) was a matter of conscience much more so than it is now so I took that option because I had absolutely no desire to get married, nor of pioneering, nor of taking up a building trade to provide free labour to WTBTS. There's a terrible confusion in the WTBTS where they've managed to delude themselves that an academic education has become the cause of people leaving and so they've loaded up on all the supposed negatives. I'd have left regardless. Of my peers, one out of the 11 is currently still in and none of them went further than high school. But it was my education which did it? Nah. Asking questions was what did it; wanting to learn about new things was how I was born.
An academic education may not be for everyone. At university level, it's very expensive and you will likely have debt from it in many countries. On the flipside, it opens up a lot of opportunities which otherwise are either much harder or impossible to have. And I personally found it a huge help in growing up as an individual, having self-reliance, as well as the skills which came from researching, writing and discussing, living abroad to study, getting into music A&R for a period and making many friends from all kinds of backgrounds. Learning so many new things was good too. Also beer and girls but beer and girls were present away from university too.
Not pushing my children too hard to try and do the same route. They'll have their own views on what they wish to do when they leave school. But would never put them off it either, even if it isn't a traditionally vocationally relevant subject. They hit 18, their choice, their life and I'll support as best I can. My major hang-ups are when people get denied the opportunity to make an informed choice about something rather than how many or few letters are after their name.

Sorry New Hope, I deleted my post. If you did see it, then I hope you can appreciate that in the attitudes encouraged towards education, many things tend to get thrown towards those who disagree with those views and the whole subject can lead to responses which may be a little too passionate, and I couldn't find the delete button. (If you didn't, it wasn't rude, just too noisy!).
And thank you. It has certainly been an eye-opening few days.

Books that changed your life-
by new hope and happiness ini am not much of a reader as i have two many distractions, but i fancy a challenging read, so please list any book that has changed your entire world view on everything.
i remember as a teenager buying at a yard sale, norman vincent peales " the power of positive thinking" and at the time that had a big impact on me.
but i am a little bit more in to " realistic positive thinking" now..

Terry Pratchett's Small Gods quietly ticked away. Ursula Le Guin's The Dispossessed made an impression as did Atwood's work. Iain Banks' books played a large role in keeping me at least relatively sane in public. But in terms of literature, the biggest impact was Larkin's poem This Be The Verse. The teacher who gave it me knew full well what meaning I'd take from it and I took the advice, well the last line not so much. So glad.

Your final WTF? Moment!
by restrangled init was a long time coming for me.....when i read about the extened generations, after being raised on1914 being the be all end all, and millions would never die....that was the end.
i was part of the 1975 fiasco, the 6 month only truth book studies, suffered through a disifellowshipping and their version of a rewind.
i finally am free and hope others can eventually look in instead of inside looking out!

Final straw for me was the WT which said that Armageddon was going to kill all the world's children, and it was ok because they'd have their whole lives predicted in advance. Some way to end a 6000 year social experiment. But started with constantly being pulled to one side for asking questions when 'testing out' in personal study. Give a kid an interest in ancient history, feed it with guided tours around museums to show how historically accurate the bible is, panic when he then checks out some of the references you've been using and finds out you've been telling fibs.

If they feel that it's working in pulling people back or keeping people in, they'll keep up with harsh stuff. If they figure that it's a net loss, it'll be rolled back as they change the lightbulb again they shed new light on things and everyone'll be meant to forget about all the pain caused by the last decision.
Someone'll sneeze on the GB and put their hand up by accident and it'll get changed eventually. They'll figure out they screwed up translating a Greek word for greeting or something to excuse it, or realise eg young single mums aren't the anti-christ. That they are having to hammer this one every few months is indicative of how unpopular and uneasy those affected still inside are about it all. And even if they do keep up with this current interpretation because this is the only way they can keep so many trapped inside, then my door's always going to be open to any family member or friend who wants to get out.
