  Did Jesus die on a stake or pole?

  we already know how jws will respond ( on a pole).

  but i found an article that talks about jws views on how jesus died.

  i didn't know that there was a time when jws accepted the cross unlike now.

  alex - thank you for your offer to have a conversation about evolution.. i accept the scientific evidence that all life - including humans - evolved from a common ancestor through unguided evolution over millions of years.

  this isn't even a controversial position in the scientific community.. the evidence rests on the data from many interconnected fields including paleontology, comparative anatomy, geology and especially genetics.

  it is no exaggeration to say that the evidence for your own non-human ancestry is contained in every cell in your body.. it is my experience that jws are generally quite ignorant (not in a pejorative sense) of the scientific case.

  @TD - those skulls you posted, I'm guessing the four on the right belong to the genus Homo.

  Is that correct?

  PS - the four on the left don't. They belong to other genera, Paranthropus and Australopithecus perhaps.

  It's a fossil of a young male who lived more than 1 million years ago.

  Evolution has it that we share a common ancestor with the great apes and extinct species of Homo, and modern humans evolved gradually hundreds of thousands of years ago. JWs believe that all life was created by God, and that humans, a special act of creation, are 6,000 years old at the most.

  How well does the above piece of evidence fit into the theory of evolution? ... And how well into the biblical belief in divine creation?

  but do they attend regular meetings?

  They can claim to be JWs but they aren't really. Which is no bad thing.

  Serena's currently fighting sexism in tennis as the pro grand slam tournaments have only given her 23 singles' titles.

  you are starting to know me by now as i’m always full of questions... my clogs are always in motion and never stop... so another question for you to give me some guidance if you can.

  based on pasts experience or cases you might heard of or seen, what advice could you give me in helping someone that is a jehovah witness, married with another jw but lives a marriage that is plagued by emotional domestic abuse and financial control?

  The elders are of no real help in situations like this.

  They are unqualified people who put their sole hope in a book written by Bronze Age goat herders. Not good.

  Professional people need to be involved - counsellors, psychiatrists, maybe the police. You get my drift.

  Domestic violence in the “tooth”... is this a thing?! - yes it is, sadly.

  Domestic violence happens in families of all backgrounds. It happens among atheists, among religious people, etc.

  It can be men on women and women on men.

  It happens among gay couples, too.

  I don't know whether there are higher or lower level of domestic violence among JWs, or whether that even matters.

  But it's a sad and illegal thing that needs tackling.

  what advice could you give me in helping someone that is a Jehovah witness, married with another jw but lives a marriage that is plagued by emotional domestic abuse and financial control? - I'm not sure. How bad is the domestic abuse? Does it include physical abuse?

  Those words do not fit the OED definition - actually, they match up quite well.

  If you had a war of words with someone, a la Trump and the 4 Dems, and said
  

  "I think white people are superior to black people"

  Well, I think that belief matches up fairly well with this ...

  Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

  going by the OED definition, none of this matters - if Trump's words are racist we need to see how his words match up to the dictionary definition of racism.

  Even if Trump said "I think white people are superior to black people" ... Maybe he doesn't actually believe that white are superior to blacks - but his words would be racist. Because they match up to the dictionary definition.

  Saying 'go back to where you came from' doesn't match the definition of racism.
