  The One Per Cent (1%) - Is it a Phenomenon of Nature itself? Is it Fair? Is it our enemy?

  the rich and powerful vs the struggling poor.. the 1% we all hear about.... is it fair that a tiny minority has more and wins more often than the rest of us?____.

  Only approximately 1% of the people in the world have an IQ of 135 or over - and most of these geniuses are men.

  I don't know what the actual gender ratio is - it might be something like 12:1.

  Males dominate both ends of the IQ distribution (the dumb end and the genius end).
  
  

  Edit - good OP, Terry.

  There's no point whinging about things 'not being fair'. That's what children do. In fact, it could be argued that the top 1% geniuses being successful is completely fair. IQ is a pretty good indicator of success.

  That is not an argument for anything - it's may not be an argument but it is a pretty good point that puts this whole issue into perspective.

  Jews were living in the Levant many centuries before Arabs settled the region.

  The first Arabs to settle the Levant came from what is now Yemen - they were Christians from the Al Azd tribe, if my memory serves correctly. They started settling in the Levant from the end of the first century CE onwards. Muslim Arabs seeped into traditionally Jewish land from the 7th century onwards.

  Jews had already been living in the same area many centuries before (Kingdom of Israel, Kingdom of Judah). So Jews do have a legitimate claim on that part of the Levant. Meanwhile, there has never been an independent Palestine.

  I have a few questions for you ...

  1. Palestine for the Palestinians?

  2. Ireland for the Irish?

  3. England for the English?

  if the Palestinian extremists would stop sending their crude rockets and stop the bombings and suicide attacks AND Israel would stop the Gaza blockade that is preventing foreign aid to help the human suffering, [italics mine] - Gaza gets aid every year. Hamas should stop spending aid money on rockets and spend it on its citizens instead.

  stop the illegal settlements - you're right here. Israel should definitely stop the illegal settlements (in West Bank, not Gaza, although you mention this just after your point on Gaza, making it look like Israel is stealing land from citizens of Gaza).

  The cycle of violence often begins and ends with Hamas/Gazan Palestinians.

  would not a One State solution be the best - when people talk of a 'one state solution', they're usually talking about one state ruled by Arab Palestinians.

  There is no reason to believe why such a state would be any good at all. Bye bye gays, atheists, etc.
  

  But, yes, one state ruled by Jews might be best, but so unlikely as to be impossible.

  Israel has existed since 1948 - it also existed thousands of years ago, too.

  It's definitely Israel.

  Israel is a country, the world's only Jewish state, and has a right to exist.

  The situation is complicated and heart-breaking, really.

  I know some Palestinian people on FaceBook (well, one Palestinian and one Jordanian) and they're really nice people.

  I hope a sensible solution can be found.

  we already know how jws will respond ( on a pole).

  but i found an article that talks about jws views on how jesus died.

  i didn't know that there was a time when jws accepted the cross unlike now.

  surely the real reason that the WT makes a big deal of this is to separate JWs from other faith groups . Another " ya shucks boo to you, we've got the truth and you haven't " - yep, 100%.

  Ding ding ding, we have a winner, laydees n gennelmen!!!

  I admit I'm partial tin foil hat. It's sort of a Pascal's wager in tin foil - hahaha XD

  Greenland For Sale

  the donald has recently suggested that he would like to look into buying greenland from denmark in the same manner that alaska was purchased from the russians.

  i think the danes would be smart to look into selling it as it is costing them money every year with very little returns for their investments so far.. the alternative might well be that donald declares greenland a national security threat and invades them so that the world remains safe for democracy.

  i would suggest to the danes that as any other real estate transaction that they put it on the open market and see how much russia or china are willing to offer .

  But why does Danish imperialism go under the radar?

  If the Romans wanted to kill someone, they wouldn't go all PC Snowflake - indeed.

  I remember one 'argument' the WTS has for a stake and not a cross is that the supposed origin of the cross is for the pagan god Tammuz.

  The WTS claims (I think) that this makes the cross pagan. Well, so what? The Romans, being pagan themselves at that point, wouldn't give a crap, would they ...
