  we brits are being bombarded with facts and speculation about the horrific consequences of either corbin or johnson getting into power .

  another thread has discussed the anti-semitic leanings ( or not ) of corbin .

  what do people think about the left's claims that boris would sell off the nhs ,only this morning l saw a post on fb saying that " america is demanding full access to nhs records " it has been pointed out by a political reporter on the bbc that the talks that the papers were leaked about happened before johnson became pm and these were just things that have been put on the negotiating table by the usa .

  Hospital waiting times at worst-ever level [title of the linked BBC article] - yeah, that happens when you have dodgy immigration policies.

  Our politicians - particularly left-wing politicians - don't do joined up thinking at all.

  To start with, the UK is quite crowded - there are many people per square km.

  Then, we need to consider Labour throwing open our borders from the late 1990s onwards. The Tories haven't done immigration well, either.
  

  We don't know how many illegal immigrants are in the UK. We don't know how many illegal immigrants use our NHS and clog up the system.

  Obviously, the NHS budget should be spent wisely to bring down waiting times but we must have sensible policies across the board, including immigration policies.

  "The will of the British People" is trotted out as though it is a static thing - ok, the will of the British people isn't a static thing.

  But here's the thing - Brexit hasn't been implemented.

  Brexit had the highest turnout of any democratic exercise in UK history, and it hasn't been carried out. Even if Johnson gets a majority this election, our 'honourable' MPs will keep fighting it.

  The UK voting public are free to change their minds but that doesn't mean a democratic vote can be overturned - it's never happened before.

  Remember the 1975 vote on membership of the EEC? No second referendum three years later on that occasion.

  Apparently, Paul McCartney wrote the song because he used to have a crush on her when he was a young boy.

  Yeah, I kinda get where he's coming from - Her Maj was quite attractive when she was a young woman in the late 40s/early 50s.

  What do people think about the left's claims that Boris would sell off the NHS - no, not likely.

  Since the NHS came into existence, the Tories have been in power more than Labour, and the NHS is still going. If the Tories wanted to get rid of it, they'd have done so decades ago.

  Plus, Trump has said recently that he doesn't want to get involved in our NHS.

  It all amounts to typical Labour scaremongering - 'get the tories out and save our NHS!', etc.

  (Tony Blair on the eve of the 1997 general election: 'we have 24 hours to save the NHS!') - Er, yeah, nice one Tone.

  Don't get me wrong, the Tories sometimes don't care about the NHS or underfund it, etc. but they don't want to get rid of it.

  the humanist organisation in the uk wants to protect non-religious people who leave their church/religion from being punished for doing so.

  they want the religious hate crime legislation in the uk to be extended to people who are not religious.

  i hope they will succeed.

  As for the Privileged English who want to get rid of the monarchy; it's not just your decision, but the collective decision of the Royal Realms of the Commonwealth - no.

  Commonwealth countries can individually decide to leave the Commonwealth and cut their ties with the British Royal family so that Queen Elizabeth would no longer be their Queen; what they can't do is abolish the British Royal family.

  I've never felt strongly one way or the other - I'm not an ardent royalist but I'm not an ardent republican either.

  I'm kinda happy to just go along with it and accept that we have a royal family.

  As Cofty points out, Queen Elizabeth does take her royal duties very seriously.

  I quite like her, TBH.

  I also like Harry and William. I'm not so keen on Charles (next in line). I wish William would become King on Queen Elizabeth's eventual death - it would be could if we could skip Charles altogether. XD

  as jehovah’s witnesses, we were regularly told how awful a college education is.

  i’m no longer associated with the religion but i am not so pro university.

  it’s not because i think you are better off without a degree.

  This left-wing stuff Minimus is concerned about hasn't infested all uni subjects.

  The traditional sciences are still relatively unscathed. I studied Biology and it wasn't a cess-pit of Communism, it didn't turn me into a socialist.

  It's a big issue in the Arts, I believe.
