  How do you feel about religion as a whole?

  it just seems to me religion in general primarily makes truly bad people worse, not genuinly good people better; and in many cases has even made good people do bad things in the name of their religion.

  just curious, a personal poll if you will.

  what are you guys' current views on religion as a whole?

  There are some aspects of religion that I absolutely detest. Other aspects, such as fidelity in marriage, good manners, clean speech, politeness, etc., I admire. However, I know that religion doesn't have a monopoly on these good aspects.

  The one thing that pisses me off most about religion is the feebleness of Western governments to involve themselves with monitoring religions. This has got to change.

  It must never be ok for a religious person to act in an unacceptable manner and then say: "it's my religion, innit!"

  after leaving the dub religion behind, i read everything that i could get my hands on, be it about other religions, beliefs, gods, occult, evolution - you name it - i read it.

  i did this to 'catch up' and to educate myself, so that when i can to a decision it would be an intellectual / educational one.

  not just because some book or person told me to believe it.. i have over time and with reading aids come to totally believe and accept evolution.

  Evolution happened. There is a massive amount of evidence and it all points to this statement. Biologists argue over details but not whether evolution happened or not.

  Examining the evidence and then denying evolution happened is akin to examining the entry and exit wounds of a corpse and denying that the deceased had been shot.

  What's with the hijab?

  the hijab is one of a few headdresses worn by muslim women.

  from what i can tell, it is supposed to hide the femininity of the woman.

  because i'm sure as a muslim, it's going to all be the woman's fault if a man acts improperly due to attraction.. i don't agree with it, but hey, it's their religion and it doesn't hurt others, so have at it if you want to wear it.. let's face it.

  I have to say, I think the hijab is feminine and dignified. If the culture is that the women cover their hair, then that's fine with me.

  i'm new to this forum.. i was raised in " the truth" from age six and now i am in my mid 60's.

  my wife was born in " the truth" and is very strong in the religion.

  i have had many experiences during my lifetime with the other members of several congregations.

  March Broadcast- Jehovah is speeding up the work

  i watched some of the segments on the jw broadcast.

  in the video they showed how they managed their inventory orders for the congregations.

  at the conclusion it was stated by the narrator how god is speeding up the work.. the problem is the system they implemented has been used for over two decades in logistics.

  i was raised in the truth my whole life, my immediate family are jws and my moms mom is a witness as well as my fathers mom.

  other than that the rest of my family are non jws.

  i was raised very balanced, my parents never forced the truth on me or my siblings like most of my friends parents did getting baptized at ridiculous ages!

  The only way of knowing is via the scientific method. Different faiths are exactly that, faith, not knowledge.

  back in the early 70's, the wt stated that all persons who had lived and died would be resurrected after armageddon.

  only non believers would be killed at armageddon, never to return.

  in short, if you died before the big a, you were guaranteed to return.. this gave rise amongst several ex's to concerns that their well-meaning jw parents might just consider the possibilty of having their offspring "lovingly" bumped off so as to ensure their resurrection!.

  I think that the GB would say that they would never intend for JWs to kill themselves or others based on WTS teachings, and really mean it.

  However, your unfortunate example shows just how dangerous cults are.

  The relevant authorities should take a much closer interest in dangerous cults - in particular WTS and Islam.

  Having been fed WTS crap as a teenager, I would say I was quite homophobic. Not a threat or nuisance to gay people, but part of the "it's not natural" crowd.

  After listening to different gay people, I can see that WTS told me nonsense. Most gay people aren't promiscuous, neither do they have a political agenda. Some Tory and UKIP MPs/supporters are gay, as well as the stereotypical activists - 'professional homosexuals' - such as Ben Summerskill and Peter Tatchell. Gay people are exactly the same as me with one slight difference: they find themselves attracted to members of the same sex. That's it.
