well i believe people don't want to believe in god because they are scared.
they know that if they finally do gorge the confidence to believe in him, he might discipline them for their skepticism.
To the OP: I don't know whether God exists or not.
[some people] just doesn't want to admit there is something greater than them - I admit that there are people on this forum, and out in the real world, who are greater than me in many matters. God, if he even exists, is also greater than me.
If God wants me to worship him or live my life in a certain way, he's going to have to come with something better than the bible or the quran.

Just finished reading about this case in the Mail. Two more avoidable deaths because of stubborn adherence to retarded religious beliefs. The GB has a lot to answer for.
It has to stop. When human life under 18 is involved, government must force blood transfusions on the person(s) in need. No ifs or buts.

from so many posts and conversations on here, you'd think over 1/2 the posters here possess doctorates in theology, physics, biology, etc.
i'm curious aside from the books and research people have done here, what degrees they have.
to start, i just got an aa and going straight through full time to an mba.
It's great to read about all these qualified people.
I myself haven't got a degree ... yet.
I hope to graduate this summer. If you guys can do it then so can I.

I think children should not be raised to value faith - the big problem here, of course, is children having their parents' religion forced on them. What can be done? Perhaps government should look into this - make under 18s or under 16s joining a religion illegal. If we have an age of sexual consent, why can't we have an age for religious consent?
We should teach them to question everything and demand evidence. Teach them how to think not what to think - agreed. Not just university but parents have a responsibility in this regard.

I disagree that they aren't all dangerous - what about middle-of-the-road C of E? They haven't burnt anyone at the stake for centuries, if they ever did. They generally tolerate others' religions, others' piss-taking. Some splinter groups allow gay couples, gay priests.
I feel it's a shame when atheists overplay their hand.

@Jonathan Drake - fair question in response. I would prefer our imaginary alcoholic drinks himself silly than harms you or your family.
However, not everyone with personal belief in God are theists, neither are they necessarily susceptible to charismatic preachers. I'm sure you knew this.
I hope atheism doesn't start to eat itself.
