To All Those Keen To Tell Us About Their Beliefs
by Simon inwe seem to have had an influx of religiots - the people who want to tell us all about how we / the wts / whoever are wrong, wrong, wrong about everything and how right they are.
they obviously have special insight, or voices (probably voices, right?
) telling them the real truth.. as proof, there is inevitably a wall of random scripture references and quotes.. sorry, but we're not here for that.

Of course people often view all Christians through the lens of Evangelical Christianity - evangelicals are just one branch of Christianity. They deserve criticism, but I'm not sure they should be used to represent Christianity.
You're one of the nice ones, Jan

"Jehovah" In The New Testament.

If you agree Jesus wouldn’t have followed a superstition to avoid the divine name then I don’t know what exactly we disagree about - I'm not sure we have anything to disagree about in this thread.
I'm just pointing out how the divine name was used so repeatedly in the OT that it almost became monotonous, whereas it was only used sparingly in the NT.
I think the words you’re looking for are ‘hallowed be thy name’ - yes, those words were part of the model prayer. But Jesus encouraged his followers to call God 'our Father'. Which sons or daughters call their father by his own name? I certainly don't call my father by his own name ...

S Club 7 star died of NATURAL causes.....
by BoogerMan in“a spokesperson from dorset coroner's office told the bbc that due to the nature of his death there would be no inquest.
no further details were given on cause of death by the coroner.” https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-65633872.
no "further" details were given?

I take your point, Jan, but as I understand it a heart defect is a specific disorder.
I wouldn't file that under 'natural causes'.
As I understand it, natural causes is used when someone is 70 or 90 or 100 and their heart just stops beating and they die peacefully in their sleep.
I don't think this happened here.
(BTW, I'd like to echo Unky Punky's sentiments - I hope this man's loved ones get comfort and support at this difficult time. I should have said this in my original post.)

@Slim
So that's just three occasions in the whole of the Gospels. Slim(boyfat) pickings, lol.
I accept that Jesus likely wasn't bound by any silly superstitions on using the divine name but, like I said, Jesus didn't use the divine name much at all.
For instance, he could have used it when he taught his followers to pray, but chose not to.
He said: 'you must pray, then, this way - Our Father who art in heaven, etc'
And not: 'you must pray this way - Jehovah God, blah blah blah'

This guy's death is not really any of my business but he was a famous person, a public figure, and usually in these cases a cause of death is given.
He was only 46 years old. How can a 46 year old die from 'natural causes'?

All the writings of the NT make it abundantly clear that the whole purpose of Jesus’ mission was to glorify God and his name - yeah, ok, but there is little evidence of Jesus actually using the divine name.
Jesus had a lot to say, but not much of that was 'Jehovah this' or 'Yahweh that'.
Jesus may have 'glorified God's name', but he didn't use it much, at least judging from the Gospels.

Whether or not the divine name appears in the NT, I'm sure we can all agree on the following:
The tetragrammaton appears many many times in the OT, then there's a huge drop off of appearances from Matthew onwards.
^^^ It's almost as if the divine name (Yahweh or Jehovah or whatever) wasn't particularly important to Jesus and the early Christians ...

@BluesBrother
I think Simon doesn't want religious types preaching on his discussion board.
At least, that's how I understood his OP.
Kinda makes sense, really ...

Biden running in 2024 🤣
by LoveUniHateExams ini've filed this under news and world events, although i could've posted it under entertainment, lol.
apparently, joe biden will be seeking re-election for another term in the white house.. this, despite a recent poll showing that 70% of people don't want him to run again.. biden just has to be the worst president i've seen.
his gaffes, over-relience on a prompter, and, more than any other president, his refusal to answer journalists' questions, all go to make him top of the list in terms of bad presidents.. it will certainly provide entertainment, if nothing else..

No it doesn't - yeah, it kinda does.
Petty criminal George Floyd was unlawfully killed by a policeman in 2020.
Then BLM and other activists went ape, rioted, caused lots of criminal damage, burned down shit, etc.
Then, for some bizarre reason, the death of that criminal sparked similar scenes over here in the UK. Rioting, 'protests', statues being defaced and attacked, soccer players dropping to their knee (did George Floyd even like soccer? lol) etc.
That's just one example but there are others.
