But WHY did these Witnesses even have any money to invest (and lose!). What about Luke 12:33, Acts 5;1-4, etc., etc.

Christianity would be so different it it had not accepted what became the canonical writings but followed the Gnostic writings/teachings instead. Unlike the stock answer of Christianity to awkward questions - 'It's a mystery! 'or some disjointed ramblings - at least the Gnostics attempted to find coherent answers to the problems.of life and suffering.

Christian missionary whinges about the prosperity of Kenya
by cofty injessica tidwell arrived in nairobi ready to heroically preach the gospel to destitute, half-naked peasants, living in mud huts and covered in "bug bites".. when she discovered that nairobi was in fact a prosperous, modern city with people in expensive clothes buying food and electronic goods in shopping malls, she was dejected and said so in her missionary blog.. the comments section below her blog entry is well worth a read.... here is bob marley's take on self-centred western christian missionaries.. "we're going to chase those crazy baldheads out of town".

Poor, poor Christians. All dressed up and no place to go.
Indeed, this reminds me of how the Salvation Army began in the 19th century. Because of the lack of any enterainment, they found playing music got the poor out of their homes to listen when they could then be preached to (or at) As soon as the poor could afford their own radios, etc., this ploy became almosot worthless. I find it sad that religion takes advantage of those who have so little and use their situations as a weapon or form of.entrapment against them. Its much the same with JWs who use people's fear of crime, the uncertain future, etc as a means of drawing them into their web of lunacy.

'New Light' = Yet another scheme to try and salvage something of a crackpot idea introduced at an earlier time.
(How do Witnesses manage to keep a straight face when they use this term?)

It is in James where this statement occurs (which appears to contradict Paul's teachings about faith, e.g., Rom 3:28)
'So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead' (James 2:17).
It is obvious by what the author says that 'works' are deeds that are related to kind behaviour and not specifically with a 'religious' association (e.g., attending meetings, witnessing, etc) . This is made clear in say, 2:15-16 and certainly in 1:27: 'Visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world'. Also to oppose or at least ignore wealth and capitalism (2:2-6).
If all Bible-believers followed what James says, the world would be a happier place. Instead of all the religious preaching they would have to care for the afflicted (and not only their own, but those of different faiths and groups - Matt 5:46-47).
Just as note: Witnesses I have spoken to say that the demand that they dress up in smart suits (like insurance salesmen) for meetings is what Jehovah wants as they are his representatives and yet James 2:2-4 surely does not support this.

What if "IT" was all just a dream?
by titch ini'm not really sure as to what category that i should put this into, so i'll just try, and put it here.
this is based upon a posting that i saw and read on facebook recently.
and, the question is: what if life---as you know it---was just one big dream?

The only thing you can ever be absolutely sure of is yourself. Belief in everything else is based on probability. You could of course be completely alone in the universe and to compensate for this your brain could have created a world for you to interact with.
