Orwell's 1984- a text book for the GB?
by purrpurr ini'm in the middle of studying 1984 by george orwell .
it's a frightening book but more so for me because it's describing the borg to the letter almost just by another name.. right down to the changing of history to suit bb doctrine, the younger generation not believing anymore but finding ways around the rules to live their own lives.
the culture of squealing on others and kids being taught to do that even to their own parents.

Interesting , is Orwell banned at all? Discouraged? I haven't seen anything in print saying that but then there wouldn't necessarily be any

From yesterday WT, don't have kids and if you do then don't see them often nor the grandkids either
by purrpurr inunbelievable paragraph in yesterday's watchtower was "encouraging" the sheep to not have kids.
most of their growth comes from the born ins and they are still on about not having kids?.
then it went on to "encourage" those that do have kids or grandkids not to spend to much time with them and instead to spend their time serving kingdom interests!.

Former brother, what you see here in the paragraph is a classic case of speak. By encouraging and praising the flock to do one thing they are essentially saying not to do the opposite. This is a tactic that the GB use alot

I've heard the "white shirt only" thing before. In my hall we had several learning disabilities/autistic people which the other members used to sneer at, make fun off and deride sometimes to their faces. They seemed to think they were the congregation clowns . Everyone but one of the learning disabilities people eventually left the religion.

The culture of squealing on others and kids being taught to do that even to their own parents. The suppression of sex and the sex impulse . The idea that they are at war against a brotherhood/apostate enemy . Traitors who are wiped off the record to not exsist anymore (shunning ), the double speak, nu speak, the hate week (conventions ) etc etc I could go on and on
Is it possible that the GB have been using 1984 as a kind of text book? To get their ideas?
Finally I agree with Winston , if the revolution happens it has to come from the proles... the rank and file to you and me
BTW I asked my jw parent had they ever read the book and they said "no, I decided it was propaganda". They actually said that!

Unbelievable paragraph in yesterday's Watchtower was "encouraging" the sheep to not have kids. Seriously?! Most of their growth comes from the born ins and they are still on about not having kids?
Then it went on to "encourage" those that do have kids or grandkids not to spend to much time with them and instead to spend their time serving kingdom interests!
All this was swallowed unnoticed by the sheep...!

Is it Time to Declare that The Great Tribulation Has Started ?
by OnTheWayOut ini don't really engage in doctrinal discussions about jw's anymore.
they seem to say some pretty crazy stuff.
but i have read some threads discussing doctrinal changes and how watchtower is really out of ideas and money at the same time.
-
purrpurr
It's an interesting idea but it has two major issues that I can see, first that jw's have always been taught that the great trib is going to be very short in length. Second that having paid the price of so many failed predictions in the past would they really dare to try again?

Old Relative Not Happy About Push To Use Ipads Etc
by disillusioned 2 ini was in a close relatives house yesterday and she was having angry and resentful at the push to use electronic devices at the meetings.
she was talking to another relative of mine who has just got an ipad to use.
this relative of mine is very elderly and obviously prefers to use her bible and other books.

Great! The elderly ones are their core members and the ones most likely to leave their houses to the when they die. If they pi55 off these ones they will loose a huge section of their followers

Beards - September 2016 Watchtower
by Listener inthe issue of whether beards are acceptable or not is addressed in the september 2016 watchtower - well sort of.
it is as clear as mud as to whether they are allowed in places like australia, usa and britain.. 17. what are some factors that may affect whether a brother wears a beard?17 what about the propriety of brothers wearing a beard?
the mosaic law required men to wear a beard.

Can anyone tell me where oh where in the world are there places where beards are frowned upon by the non jw community?
I can't think of anywhere that beards would be frowned upon?
Can you?

Pharaoh and Judas, both gods puppets?
by purrpurr ini've had a thought about pharaoh and judas .
in exdos it says that jehovah hardens pharaohs heart so that he then refuses to send the israelites away.
this gives god an exhuse to show off some plague skills he has up his sleeve.. so with judas , jehovah puts it into his heart to betray jesus .. so neither one had command of their actions?

How do the JW's explain this passage of the bible? I've seen plenty of writing saying how God gave us free will but nothing about him taking it away when it suits him?
