What's the deal with beards????

ok, so my brother in law, a former elder, decided to grow a beard a while ago.

he initially grew it because he had a small rash he was trying to cover up, but that has since gone, and he has kept the beard.

he kept the beard because it made such a fuss that he decided if he shaved it off it would be like giving in to the brothers.

Western Shirts, Bolo Ties and Boots...Also frowned own by the society, but in some parts of the country are commonplace and overlooked. Like adultery by elders.

Aztec (A self-proclaimed atheist) and I (A Quaker) have this discussion all the time. Personally, it think it may be a reaction to the concept of an overbearing God. For so long, we as Witnesses equated the rules handed down by the GB as from God Himself. Therefore, leaving the org was, by extension, leaving the concept of God being in control. Rebelling against the society was rebelling against God (The latter phrase being the true definition of apostasy)

Why are the world's anointed not called to Brooklyn to be Governing Body?

when i was in the witnesses, and near the end of my time in.

there was the whole new understanding, of putting non-anointed people in positions in the organization that were normally something an anointed person would be in.

i remember them mentioning that the amount of anointed was dwindling and there needed to be people in these positions of responsibility, to make sure the work continues.. after this was highlighted and all good witnesses swallowed this thinking hook line and sinker.

Simple...Many annointed ones are sincere. We can't have those people running the org.

It was instrumental. I was fading and didn't know it, but once I saw what others had gone through on this board, I knew it was right.

after going to this years district convention.

it seems the gb knows it's over.

i don't think the gb thinks that the watchtower is going to make it to 2014. everything was so see thru a blind could of seen thru it, and to top it off the drama sucked.

NWT inserting Jehovah in the NT (discussing the "J" references)

i wrote most of this in response to drew sagan, in a thread that wasn't really about this issue.

when i read back over it, i figured it need a thread of its own.. the first part of the puzzle is in appendix 1d of the nwt reference bible.

they list all "237 places where the name jehovah occurs in the main text of the new world translation of the christian greek scriptures.

As I recall, most bible translations go through some sort of peer review in theological circles, much like scientific theories and historical second sources. I know how secretive the GB is, but what do others in the bible translation biz have to say about it?

Jesus Camp, the movie. Trailer freaked me out.

sorry if this has already been discussed, but i haven't been around too much.

anyway, i heard an interview with the directors of the film the other day, and was compelled to check out the website.

it's a movie about x-tian kids going to these bible camps and i'll tell you, the trailer (in the download section) freaked me right out.

I loved the shot of them worshipping to/with a cardboard cutout of Bush. That's really what the fundie movement is about.
