  (As promised) BETHEL TRIP part 7. Loosing my balance

  as i was trying to settle into my new life i constantly plagued myself with questions about where i had been and a bigger question, where i was going.

  in the mid eighties there wasn't easy access to any exjw's to ask questions and help me through a very difficult transition in my life.

  today the internet offers a lot of support through a large collection of exjw's from all over the world who offer many various options based on their own personal experience on where to go once you are out of the cult.

  A JW at my work, question?

  there is a guy at work that i had heard was a jw, so i was working with him and we had a few laughs talking and joking around so i was starting to pry and get it out of him that he was a jw, also i had heard a few things and wanted to ask him as well.

  so i asked what he did for christmas and he avoided the question and then i said, "oh yeah your a jehovahs witness" and he said he was, right after he said "but i got some good presents" (admitting your a jw seemed to be awkward for him) as he is the only jw in his family.

  i told him that my parents were as well and my grandparents went to the same hall as he did many years ago.

  I know of several JWs (I guess ex-JW's, now) that were DF'd for marrying outside the faith, and that being the only reason. Probably one of those Ted Jaracz service departmen rules that the elders get from the CO's directly, and not from the WT.

  When I "struggled" with it (lasted about 2 days before I realized every JW on earth whacked off), I prayed for the foxy brunette sister to "help". Seemed to make the problem worse...

  Where did the Pleides idea come from?

  did rutherford just make it up while drunk one day, or is there an older tradition of naming the pleides god's home?

  the constellation of the seven stars forming the pleiades appears to be the crowning center around which the known systems of the planets revolve.... it has been suggested, and with much weight, that one of the stars of that group is the dwelling place of jehovah and the place of the highest heavens;..... the constellation of the pleiades is a small one compared with others which scientific instruments disclose to the wondering eyes of man.

  but the greatness in size of other stars or planets is small when compared to the pleiades in importance, because the pleiades is the place of the eternal throne of god.. j. f. rutherford, reconciliation, 1928, p. 14. .

  How to get out for lurkers...

  Here, we're assuming you want get out...you've made your decision to undedicate yourself to the Organization.

  The fade is a classic, especially if you have few/no family ties. also try it if you have at least a good network of "worldly" friends and relatives. These "Bad associations" are especially villified by the WTS because, after all, when you leave, you're supposed to be alone and miserable, not supported by others.

  slowly cut ties with those in the cong...many JW's have business relations with others, being warned on one hand and enouraged on the other by WT literature. If your cash flow is dependent on an elder, look for a better opportunity (a reason they hate college...elders own cleaning services and uncertified repair shops, not large businesses and School districts). Then, build your "worldly" network.

  If you have a heavy family web, don't fade, IMHO...but work on untangling the financial cords, if present. wait for a situation that will give you an out (personal dispute with an elder/elderette) is a good way to go. You can at least shore up some good family sympathy and get some justification for leaving.

  I think Jaracz stayed because he had the power...you don't want to leave if you're on top.
