My grandpappy, David, contracted TB from one of his patients, during WWII. He was sent to live in a TB sanatorium in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the whole family moved with him.
Grandpappy and Grandma ma.

Some pictures:
The first is my parents with Carlita and my dentist, maxillo facial surgeon, Naval officer grandpappy, having dinner in NYC in early 1961. Carlita is bottom left. Her waist length hair is pinned up. Her father was fullblooded American Indian. Daddy, her oldest son is behind her, Grandpappy to the right of Daddy, Mamma to the right of Grande Ma ma.

(I've had a wonderful grandmother as well, haven't seen her the last decade, since she's still a JW and 'because of her conscience' she's 'not able' to see me again... ever... She's 89 and I terribly miss her )
That's terrible. Makes me want to spit. Mine just simply past away.
I'm glad you all got some good nostalgic feelings from reading about Carlita.

I'll come look at this tomorrow night. Have to work in the morning and give my weary self some much needed rest. It's been a long day. I have noted many times on this forum that people use the logic that if there was a god, god would solve hunger, fix everything. God doesn't, so further proof there isn't a god. I don't find it answering the god question. I see people making choices that affect each other and our environment. Then there is nature. Man has some effect on nature. Nature affects nature and man. Scientists don't know all the answers, the non believers and believers among them. Religion sure doesn't have all of the answers. I can agree with you, Cofty that some believers can say some pretty puzzling things after a disaster. An example would be blaming the wild life in New Orleans for the Katrina disaster. That kind of thing sickens me.

Who caused the dustbowl, here in the USA? It's a fascinating subject to learn about.

Oh yes, you call it the dumbest comment, but you know it true. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you live in a dangerous area, your odds of getting in the way of danger go up exponentially.

This thread is exclusvely about natural evil over which humans have no control
Natural evil. So a tsunami is natural evil. Doesn't that personify the tsunami? Human beings do have control over living on islands and coastlines. I was raised on the gulf of Mexico, the coast. We knew there was risk of hurricanes, but we chose to live there. The earth is full of powerful weather conditions and moving plates, etc. Would you live near an active volcano? Volcanos prove there is not a god?

Don't tell me there is lessons for my compassion in this! Bullshit!.
Maybe it's not about lessons. Maybe man should consider not living so close to coast. We don't believe this life is all there is. I'm not a Chrisitan, but I do not believe this life here is all there is. I'd more think of this earth as a pergatorial experience, really, kind of hell on earth, with a lot of good thrown in as well. I don't know all of the answers. I'm fine with not knowing all of the answers as to why there is suffering. I know it doesn't make sense to blame God for the bad that happens and it really makes little sense to decide he doesn't exist, because of things like the tsunami. There are some messed up things that happen here: welcome to planet earth and humankind.
