Respectfully, Viviane, you are speaking for yourself and maybe some others, but not for all of us. We have the answer, had the answer, before you asked the question. You don't have the answer. You may never have the answer.

What is spirit, exactly?
by Viviane ini've always wondered that.
recently i asked that question on another thread and didn't really get ananswer.
cofty made an excellent point that we often hear what it isn't, but that really isn't useful.. so, what is it?

Some of us had the answer before this thread was started. For you, there isn't really an answer, at least for now.

Humans are just 6,000 years old aren't they?
by notsurewheretogo inaccording to the bible humans cannot be older than 6,000 years old...... yet more evidence obviously planted by satan to mislead us has been found:.
.. .. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-27432234.
the ancient remains of a teenage girl discovered deep underground in mexico are providing additional insights on how the americas came to be populated.. divers found the juvenile's bones by chance in a vast, flooded limestone chamber on the yucatan peninsula.. aged 15 or 16 at death, the girl lived at least 12,000 years ago.. researchers have told science magazine her dna backs the idea that the first americans and modern native american indians share a common ancestry.. this theory argues that people from siberia settled on the land bridge dubbed beringia that linked asia and the americas some 20,000 years ago before sea levels rose.. sea levels 20,000 years ago were low enough to expose a land bridge across the bering seathese people then moved south to populate the american continents.. the genetics of modern native americans would certainly appear to link them into this story.

White Bird by It's A Beautiful Day
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUNgQ03D2qA
White bird,
in a golden cage,
on a winter's day,
in the rain.
White bird,
in a golden cage,
alone.
The leaves blow,
Across the long black road.
To the darkened skies,
in its rage
But the white bird just sits in her cage,
unknown.
White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird,
dreams of the aspen trees,
with their dying leaves,
turning gold.
But the white bird just sits in her cage,
growing old.
White bird must fly or she will die.
White bird must fly or she will die.
The sunsets come, the sunsets go.
The clouds roll by,and the earth turns old.
And the young bird's eyes do always glow.
She must fly,
She must fly,
She must fly.
White bird,
In a golden cage,
On a winter's day, in the rain.
White bird,
In a golden cage alone.
White bird must fly or she will die.
White bird must fly or she will die.
White bird must fly or she will die.
White bird must fly -

Twitch, Village Girl and Jgnat, you've got it nailed.
I asked:
What makes you a living thing? As is opposed to a dead thing? What makes living things live? What makes them alive verses dead?
Twitch answered my question when giving a copy and paste definition from a dictionary.
1 : an animating or vital principle held to give life to physical organisms
I like this following definition as well.
1. having the power of sense perception or sensation; conscious
Sentience is a very good word for conscious, perceiving awareness.
--from Twitch's definition:
4 : the immaterial intelligent or sentient part of a person
VG, your post number 946 is insightful.

Christians assert that humans have a "spirit" that suvives death. They claim that god is a "spirit".
Christians and lots of other people assert this.

One thing about this site that bothers me
by keyser soze inthe constant references to 'window washers' as something derogatory.. i understand the context of it-that most jws are uneducated, and unqualified to do much more.
but sometimes the references seem snobbish, almost mean-spirited.
one poster, on another thread, essentially referred to window washers as 'losers'.

We have lost so many posters. I don't post as much as I used to. It could be just me, but it seems like we used to have a lot more fun around here.
