Honey who-who???

i do apologize for my extreme ignorance, but i am curious.. who the hell are honey boo boo, sugar bear and mama june??.

and more to the point.. why the hell are some americans so obsessed with them?.

Please understand that not all of America embraces Honey Boo Boo, which is from the "reality TV" genre.

I have never shot anything but a water or B B gun, yet I made this bitstrip of me to show my sentiment about reality tV.

I share this lack of affinity for reality TV with many millions of Americans. Please do not ever think that it is America who loves voyeuristic TV. It is only some Americans who love that type of entertainment. Honey Boo Boo makes people feel superior, like geniuses really, in comparison. It's also like a train wreck, they can't help themselves from looking, the ones that watch anyway.

I'm not sure we can pin rabies on God. For all we know, there are lots of gods and/or goddesses and at least one or some of them could be messing with us. Perhaps we're part of some big chess game or clash of the Titans.

A god that would give us rabies? He/she sounds pretty mean.

A question for my friends in the USA about cowboys.

as a kid growing up in the uk we used to play 'cowboys and indians' and watch high chaparal and bonanza along with other cowboy films.

later, in the 70's kung fu would be shown with caine going through the 'old west'.

we even had a chocolate bar that was marketed with a 'cowboy' theme...milky bar.. as far as i know the 'wild west' as shown on tvdidn't actually exist.. are there people that believe it did?.

Birth:	1847 Sonora, Mexico
Death:	Dec., 1915 Navajo County Arizona, USA
Apache Army Scout. At 12 years old Free was abducted from his stepfather's (John Ward) Arizona ranch by whom many believe were members of the Pinal Apache Band. Free's abduction led to a deadly encounter between the Chiricahua Chief Cochise and Army Lieutenant George Bascom, which ignited a 20 year war between the U.S. and Chiricahuas. Free's birth name was Felix Martinez and for many years he was thought to be either dead or beyond rescue. Approximately 20 years after his abduction Free's brother, Santiago Ward, heard that his brother was living on the San Carlos Reservation. When Santiago visited the reservation, he discovered his brother had been fully integrated into the Apaches and was using the name of Mickey Free. Though Free had no Apache lineage, he was mistakenly thought by many to be at least half Apache. On December 2, 1872, Free enlisted as an Apache scout at Ft. Verde AZ. Though the well known chief of scouts, Al Sieber, distrusted Free's honesty, he did respect his abilities as a scout. Free, who could speak English, Apache & Spanish, was a valuable asset in the pursuit of hostile Apaches, including Geronimo. Free's reputation for killing those he pursued made him a feared adversary. In addition to being a scout for the Army, Free was also a member of the reservation police and a spy. Free ended his scouting career with the rank of sergeant. In his later years Free settled with the White Mountain Apaches and raised a family. Free died of old age near Whiteriver. He was buried near where his wickiup once stood. Free's descendents still reside on reservation. No, as far as things like sexual activity goes, there actually never was a better time for kids (more open access to and knowledge of birth control, vaccines for some STDs, etc.). Teens have always had sex throughout history and always will.

You missed the whole point of what I was saying. Better time for kids? I don't agree with you about it being better. There is better education in some places and more availabilit of birth control in some places, but kids are kids. I remember someone arguing recently that you cannot get STDs from oral sex. This person went through sex ed at high school. Evidently said kid wasn't listening or believes other kids over his instructors.

But the point is that we don't provide a world where kids are encouraged to be age appropriate. While it is true that kids have always had sexual curiosity and some did engage in varying levels of experimentation, they weren't always hyper sexualized by the media. Media is modern thing anyway. The numbers of kids doing risky things has risen to new heights, thanks to being encouraged and fanned on by the entertainment and video game industry. Then they have smart phones, digital cameras, webcams, etc. I grew up in the 60s and 70s. I hung out with the wilder bunch of hippies at school. None of the kids I knew were blatant about sex and none of them flashed naked pics of each other. We did have poloroid technology then, but there were never any scandals about XXX photos. Maybe here and there around the earth there were some teenagers involved in that, but it wasn't going on in Atlanta, GA or any of the other places I went.

The course they took says more about their shepherding ethic than about the young girl.

Again, as we have all sadly learned, their concern is only what they look like to the outside world. They do not care how unloving they come across to this girl, her family or the congregation.

Yet I am genuniely disturbed that, if this child's details weren't already plastered all over universal porn sites, this forum is kind of inadvertently providing another avenue to invade this child's putative privacy. A conundrum, if ever there was one.

At least here, the young lady is anonymous. And most of the posts have been in her favor.

I'm not assuming any details. For all we know she went to the elders about it, on her own. It's possible her parents found it on her phone or on their computer and took it to the elders, out of misguided allegience to the org. I know people who have found pictures on the computer from their teenaged kids, involving boy or girlfriends and have panicked because it is illegal for the kids themselves to have the pictures or give the pictures or videos. Then there it is on the parent's computer or the child's phone, child pornography. I think most parents would just delete the pictures and talk with the kids about it. If it is already public though, then the horses are out of the barn, doesn't help to close the door.

Then it could have been a local scandal. I was listening to NPR this weekend about the scandal in one town where some guys made a page to upload Instagram pornographic pictures of unsuspecting people. The authorities began to investigate this and found the practice of sharing nude photos to be widespread in the town. Now the focus is on finding the people who put the page up with the naked pictures and prosecuting them, rather than the teenagers whose pictures were posted. It was pointed out that a few of the girls knew their pictures would be posted.

Along with Still Totally ADD, I'll ad that it's is proven that the front part of your brain, the part that governs decision making, is not fully developed until you are at least 25. When this was discovered, here in the USA, the age at which a person can receive the death penality has been raised.

Along with Jhine, christening babies or young children is not equal to JW baptism. It is not for the same purpose at all. And the children have to make the decision, after months or a year of preparation, to be confirmed into a church. Nearly all churches do not practice shunning. When my grandson decided he was an atheist, the Episcopal Church still welcomed him with open arms. He went along on their trips to Ohio to ride the roller coasters. He went along with the youth group on mission trips, which involved reparing the homes of the elderly and the poor. He also volunteered to cook for and feed the homeless on Sunday mornings. He went to the weekly dinner and meetings for his youth group and was treated as he always had been. To this day he has all kinds of friends from the church on his facebook. They do not unfriend him when he posts about anarchy or atheism. He knows they love him. He loves them, too.

Shame of what she has done. Hmm. Kids, driven by incredible hormones and sexual curiosity, with smart phones. Kids who are told by TV, the movie industry and the music they listen to that teenagers ought to be thinking of how and when they should be losing their virginity and partying like adults. Shame of what she has done? No, it's the the adults who have allowed teenagers to be indoctrinated into this wildly sexual world, too young, that have done the shameful thing.

I am not for being prudish, don't get me wrong. The thing is that children and teenagers deserve a world where they can be age appropriate. I'm thinking it was easier when kids were watching Shirley Temple and the Our Gang Comdies/The Little Rascals and listening to the music their parents did. I love rock and roll and loved my childhood during the 60s and 70s. It wasn't so bad then as it is today for kids.

Wake up people, this is what a lot of kids are doing these days.

I would not allow my daughter to be baptized. I feel like kids need our super support when they end up in trouble. They don't need to be shunned.
