  Help needed: Written material regarding shunning of DF'd and DA'd individuals

  i would like this to become a permanent thread, because i think there are grounds - at least in europe - to take this matter up to the european court of human rights.

  not sure we'll ever get there, but one must start somewhere.

  objective: force, by legal means, the watchtower society and the jehovah's witnesses to stop the practice of shunning ex-jehovah's witnesses, on grounds that it constitutes a violation of human rights.. what is needed: all written material ever published by the watchtower society, especially since 1940's, concerning the practice of shunning.

  JW's become acutely embarrassed about disfellowshipping when it's brought to the notice of non-JW's. It has no martyr quality like the blood issue!

  During the "mentally diseased apostates" saga they even lied that shunning was a "personal matter", which of course is patently untrue as refusal to shun is a disfellowshipping offence!

  Look at this quote taken from the Independent newspaper, UK:

  Rick Fenton, a spokesperson for the Watchtower Society, insisted last night that ostracisation was "a personal matter for each individual to decide for himself". "Any one of Jehovah's Witnesses is free to express their feelings and to ask questions," he said. "If a person changes their mind about Bible-based teachings they once held dear, we recognise their right to leave."

  JW Child Abuse Makes 'Private Eye'

  following on from the recent thread about wt losing an appeal concerning the uk charity commission (sorry, i can't do the link) i'm pleased to report that this matter is covered in the latest 'private eye' (20 march - 2 april issue).. it's a one-third page article (p.34) under the heading 'child abuse' and the headline 'silent witnesses'.

  it reports the case accurately, mentions several criminal cases and the ongoing high court compensation case.

  it includes some of judge mckenna's comments..

  Must the Elders Always be Told?

  i recall that some years ago the wt stated that not all offences need to be reported to the elders, but that confessing serious sins to another person who was not an elder could suffice.

  the article stated that this did not include sexual offences and that these must be reported to the elders.. can anyone throw any light on this please?.

  As a young man I was always told that any DF'ing offence committed meant that a JC was the only way towards being absolved from whatever sin one had committed, anything else would result in death at armageddon.

  Thanks for that. However, there was defifitely a WT that specifically stated that minor disfellowshipping matters (minor, hah!) could be dealt with by simply confessing to someone else without the need for a JC. The WT also stated categorically that this didn't apply to sexual matters. Probably an 80's or 90's WT.

  Confusion over the parable of the prodigal son

  though parable of prodigal son is superlative in quality as it graphically picturizes the scientific law of cause and consequence, its conclusion defames god.

  when the prodigal son returned repentant, his father showed his delight saying: let us celebrate this by killing a fattened calf.

  (luke 15:23) such a concept (let us rejoice by giving maximum pain to another innocent living being) seems to be interpolation for the following reason:.

  Isn't the bigger issue that the father forgave the son even though the son was not truly repentant but he only came back because he was hungry?

  Kind of blows the "shunning" practice to bits doesn't it? The father should have shunned the son until he was "truly" repentant.

  Also bear in mind that the father ran to meet his son. He didn't wait to see how repentant his son was before calling for a feast!

  Do JW Children Still Call Adults "Aunt" and "Uncle"?

  when i was young we were taught to refer to other adult jws as aunt or uncle.. was this also the case in other countries and does it still happen?.

  was it just a custom or has the literature ever commented on it?.

  Yes indeed. It was considered a mark of respect when I was but a wee lad. But back then, all other adults were Mr or Mrs. Of course you could refer to adults as brother Fred or sister Janet, but then you looked mighty peculiar calling someone brother or sister if you met them on the street while in the company of non-witness heathens, so auntie or uncle was deemed a good compromise.
