The WT excels at drip feeding it's adherents who will eagerly connect the dots and crosses as later "new light" arrives. Once 1975 has been addressed and 1914 has been rebutted, another WT or convention lecture will discuss the great "Falling away" of the 60's and 70's which led to the Great Apostasy, which in turn Satan used to turn people away via the internet.

2017 Convention Video To Be Shown Regarding The 1975 Failure
by pale.emperor inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go3arnnsfkk&feature=youtu.be.
no mention whatsoever that it was watchtower themselves that strongly hinted towards this date.
instead they blame those who "put their trust in a date, not jehovah".. let's recap... .

IMHO it's an attempt to kill two birds with one stone. Lay the 1975 debacle away as some sort of break-away movement of the 1970's plus use it as an example to show how happy are those who re-adjusted their thinking. Then, in a year or two bring up more re-adjusted thinking about 1914 not being so important. The wise and faithful will nod their heads in agreement and recall how wise they were in not falling for the 1975 nonsense and show their great maturity by not being stumbled over this slight adjustment.

My JW momma patiently explained to me why there are so many loony people in the JW's.
It's because they are treated so kindly, so they climb aboard.

What was it like being a JW in the 1960's and 1970's
by UnshackleTheChains inthis is obviously a question for the older generation.
i'm really curious what it was like to be a witness in the 60's and 70's?.
was the society as strict as it is today?.

Up until the early 1970s, the WTS used to set specific goals for "Regular Publishers" , which included 10 hours per month, 12 magazines , so many "back calls" (now "return visits"), and at least one bible study. Those failing to meet these goals were classed as "Irregular Publishers", and would have received some "encouragement" in the form of a cattle prod!
I'd up my hours by putting leaflets through doors as I walked to work.

Actually there were 5 meetings, 1 hour weekday, book study; 2 on another weekday, school and service meeting, and 2 on Sunday, public talk and WT study.
I wonder if the abandoning of the book study was all to do with stopping unsupervised association amongst the JW's? Same thing with reducing the gaps between assembly sessions and the doing away with assembly food lines so as to reduce unsupervised association? If you look at old pics or video of the food queues everyone seemed to know everyone else. I think that has all gone now.

Assemblies were very different with lots of breaks between sessions. Plus everyone was encouraged to use the cafeteria facilities as a source of association, which could sometimes be fun.

Whatever Happened to the District Overseers? Who Took Over their Responsibilities?
by Village Idiot inwhen i was in, during the 1970s, i would see circuit overseers twice a year.
i think there were two occasions when i saw a district overseer give a talk at the hall.
were eliminated as part of a streamlining process but who the hades has taken on their responsibilities?

The DO always gave the public talk at Circuit assemblies. We had one humorous CO - John Wyatt - who would announce the DO as his "big brother".

Toxic Person?
by stuckinarut2 ini read a fantastic quote that applies to the way the society treats those who choose to leave...:.
"when a toxic person can no longer control you, they will try and control how others see you".
just wanted to share....

I think this quote originates on a web article dealing with narcissists.

Next time you hear a JW say, "we're the most persecuted religion on earth, proving Jesus' prophecy...."
by kpop inplease show them this.... easter 2017, christians ‘most persecuted group in the world’.
during the last calendar year, some 90,000 christians were killed for their faith across the globe, making christians by far the most persecuted group in the world, according to a study from the turin-based center for studies on new religions (cesnur).. while tens of thousands of christians are killed for their faith, introvigne said, they are just the tip of the iceberg and much persecution takes place on a daily basis that never makes news.. http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2017/04/16/easter-2017-christians-most-persecuted-group-in-the-world/.
dear jw's, it's all about being a christian that is important, not being a jw!!.

JW's lack of popularity is totally self-inflicted. You gonna let people die through lack of blood, not assist abused children, split up families with shunning, you are not going to be flavour of the month!
Simples....(sorry meerkat)
