Was the Economic Collapse of 2008 and the obvious Money Grab by the Organization a Coincidence?

let me start off by saying that the org has always been trying to get money.

but is it a coincidence that they have been so in-your-face about it since 2008?

I think it's a number of factors that all play into it. I have a couple. One is that closing the wallet or purse is the only passive aggressive option available to joe publisher. They are continuously, whipped, and embarrassed. The ones who want a decent living wage and pursue some wage skills are treated like crap and called greedy. The contempt for the publisher comes through loud and clear, and they are voting with their wallets.

I would say the the other is a general downturn in the economy, coupled with the fact that only growth is in poorer nations. The Watchtower Inc. is like a financial mushroom about to collapse under it's own weight. Hence the begging.

A larger portion would embrace DF loved ones that weren't apostate. For the vast majority, it would be business as usual. They could use a marking talk instead of a formal announcement, it would be one of few PR wins for them. "We can't control the actions of our members" Way less resentment, I can't imagine losing access to my child or grandchildren.

Paraplegic JW example used at assemblies

it seems like every time our circuit failed to meet the field service goals set by our co, the very next circuit assembly would invariably include a talk that mentions a chronically ill paraplegic sister who would dial the phone with her tongue to make return visits or conduct bible studies... i must have heard this experience at least 6 or 7 times in the past 20 years or so.

and every time i heard this recycled talk, they would add even more guilt-inducing twists to it.

to me, it eventually became way to difficult to believe...

I remember those, they sounded like an SNL skit. The more outrageous the better. Same with the people in the magazines, attractive, perfect dress, grooming, and dental. Brothers always wore a collared shirt. What about the Sister who was formerly a crack whore? No teeth and scratch scars on her face? Or Brother big boned, deuce and a half if he's a pound? Watchtower creepy, fake ass, white bread world, I keep looking for June Cleaver doing dishes in pearls.

if you had to pinpoint the time or experience that finally made you open your eyes, what would it be?.

i think for me it was the time i saw my dad shun his brother who he had not seen in decades just because he was a da'ed jw.

It wasn't so much a moment as several years of working my ass off on the hamster wheel called reaching out. While those with clergy connections did nothing and got the nod. Some of the appointed were psycho's who took glee in the misery of others. One was barely literate, and had his (prescription) opiate pill popping wife prepare his meeting parts. It still gets me wound up thinking about it.

so this weekend there was a part about not following jesus at a distance.

the speaker made a big point of stating that any baptized jw male who was not either appointed ms/elder, or at the very least "reaching out" actively, was in fact following jesus at a distance.

he said that the only way to live through the big a was to follow jesus closely.

The other thing that irkes me about statements like this, is the fact that these guys are all insulated from the reality of day to day life. If they had to deal with the crap we all have to, they might be singing a different tune. Not a care in the world. If Splane wants pizza at 4 in the morning, some shlub is getting a phone call. I would bet they get manicures, you know for the videos!

I don't know what job is worse Elder or CO. I've seen many elders with stress etched on their face. Some with the 1000 yard stare. Plenty more neglecting their kids and wives. Who wants that? Where is the light load and easy burden of Matt 11:30? The WBT$ is taking a page right out of big business, FUD, fear uncertainty and doubt about your salvation. The only word that comes to mind is cruel, publicly shaming men because they don't want BS drama of appointment in their lives. I think this new Video stuff is in response to the lack of men. When I was invested, I often thought the MS should do most of the meeting parts and Elders focus on shepherding. Now I think it will be a video projector doing most of the parts, and Elders/MS doing other busy work.

Here is the typical Saturday morning scenario:

JW: Knock Knock ... presentation and mag placement

Householder to mate: What nice people, we could use some spirituality in our lives. Let me Google this...WTF!!!!

Next Sat.

JW: Knock Knock: I'm hear to follow up on our previous conversation.

Householder in a good mood: No thanks, please don't call on this house again!

Householder in a bad mood: Get the F**K of my property, I'm calling the police. (That happened to me)

This is played out over and over every day. With cheap new smart phones, and ever expanding WiFi into 3rd world nations, the Watchtower is in siege mode. Let's face it they have pretty well reached the saturation point, and the growth curve zenith is coming up fast. All the doctrinal changes, and ever more shrill (internet, apostate) cries are evidence of this. They are trying to shed the wacky cult past, and adopt a shiny new e-religion look. When this doesn't work you can expect more extreme change. I have no doubt that Blood, Shunning, and "two witness rule" has or will be on the table. What i would give for recordings of the GB board meetings!
