Hot topic in congregations: having a beard/goatee
by nevaagain ini am starting this topic because i was wondering, i see many who leave "the truth" are glad because they can finally have a beard.
is having a beard really a no go in congregations?
how is / was it in your congregation?.

I don't have a beard, for no particular reason. My usual response to the beard thing is usually: Not going beyond the thing written ! Cor. 4:6. Quote Lev. 19:27 and ask if that means I can now get a tattoo? Or my favorite, If Jesus was still around, he wouldn't have any privileges! More JW BS! -

Millions of people get up every day and help others with no expectations what so ever. They are called volunteers, neighbors, citizens. Your frustration with the Borg comes through loud and clear. You already knew the answer before you asked the question! Was the thought wrong? I would say no. We all have thoughts we would never act on. Was vocalizing or in this case putting the thought down in writing wrong? No, we all seek feedback on occasion. Not wanting some unscrupulous person to manipulate this lady was a decent thought. The suggestion that you make a case to this lady for you and your wife's gain, is quite telling, and calls into question your genuine concern for this lady. It would be a 100% sleazy move! -

Locate the alpha dog elder, or any elder for that matter. Start in on him about his fancy car, wifes tight skirt, whatever. You will be stepped down so fast your head will spin. Added bonus, you just got stumbled!

Typical JW drama. Trying to out spiritual each other. Not a bad opportunity to get a dig in when they pop back up a week later. -

Are Jehovah's Witnesses Christian or Cult, Do JWs Offer Solutions for Local and Global Problems of life?
by skepticSam inthe awake on "hope for the homelessness" was one of the worse illustrations how the cult has no love for anyone that can't provide donations to further this spiritual ponzi scheme!
the premise of this awake made no sense, i've read many books and took classes on social issues affecting mankind, the awake does not help fix the problem.
what did this magazine offer those who are suffering the humiliation of living out of their cars or "tent city" or under a bridge?

I recall a situation years ago, a JW friend built a small building. Another JW male was helping with site cleanup and was throwing asphalt shingles on a burn pile. I commented that the burning shingles were probably not good for the environment. His comment "He wasn't interested in propping up this system", and joked that he was hastening Armageddon by polluting. His kids were dancing around the fire, and I though to myself That's all well and good till your kid gets Leukemia. Didn't the kid get Leukemia a few years later, I regretted the thought. The kid pulled through, but I kind of wish I had vocalized that thought at the time! -

Charity
by aintenoughwiskey inwe know the wt interpretation of matt 25:40 is support of the anointed.
since most of us here are no longer in that situation, what, if any forms of charity are you involved in?
sorry for the awkward framing of the question, it's not meant to imply atheists, or non-christians are not charitable!

I think one of the saddest things is to think about all the energy and resources being spent on door-to-door and other non-sense work. Can you imagine if every Saturdays or Sundays, they would go out to their communities build houses for the homeless, and feed the hungry, and clothe the poor?
Amen to that! Jesus fed the hungry, took up collection, and encouraged his followers to help the poor. Try eating a Watchtower, not much nutrition! From what I can see from the WT it's all about image = members = donations. If you are not a prospective recruit, it's "Go in peace, keep warm and well fed"

Any charity work by JW's would be a personal effort, and they would be wise to keep it to themselves! I had a recent conversation with a JW relative, who said the preaching work was the primary work for christians, not food banks and building hospitals. He spit out the words "food banks" and " hospitals". -

priveledges an extra layer of protection
by aintenoughwiskey ini have noticed when an elder or ms gets in serious trouble, many times it's simply a demotion.
local example.
well liked ms son of a prominent elder/pioneer gets caught doing the dance with no pants with his fiancee.

I normally don't take pleasure in the misfortune of others, but the parents I found particularly smug. Inherited Independent wealth, full time pioneers. Perhaps it's just jealousy on my part? Somehow the picture of them walking in on him, nailing her on the dining room table, bare asses in the air gives me a chuckle. As for how they found out, I have no idea.
