Thank you, Jeff. I guess that is one of the advantages of being an international organization when just moving money around between countries can result in a profit. Nice gig.

Annulment of baptism for a minor?
by Tornintwo ini've seen references to baptism annulment on a few websites, does anyone know if there has ever been a successful annulment of a baptism?.
eg.
a minor claims they didn't understand a key wtbts teaching prior to baptism, is there any realistic chance of annulment?

Question:
Does a JW child require parental permission to enter into the baptismal agreement?

Sorry about that, Oubilette. It is Sunday morning wake and bake time here and my funny bone is happy. But, I feel bad you spilled your coffee and I will buy you a Timmy's if you ever make it up to Canada.
JeffT, I have a question for you, our resident financial guru. This has been in the back of my mind for a while and I can't seem to find the information on it.
It concerns the international transfer of funds. Can someone take advantage of fluctuating exchange rates and make a profit by simply moving money around between countries?
There is an awful lot of money that flows into the New York coffers from other countries and, some of that money flows back into the other countries. It seems, though, that always the larger amount goes to New York.

Oubilette: Can you imagine what it must be like for someone with actual business sense to try and give financial advice to Stephen Lett? What a nightmare that must be!
Either that, or it could be a total cake walk.
Just imagine how simple you could make it sound..."Just put this dollar in this piggybank, and later, much later, you might get a dollar and ten cents back. The money will come from an overlapping piggy bank...down in paradise island."
Along with..."Just trust me. I am an accountant. And the lawyers said it is a good deal."

Latest rumor - all WT construction "suspended", except for Warwick
by sir82 inheard 4th-hand, but from a full-on believer, so not likely to be an "apostate lie":.
apparently, at bethel's morning worship this morning, it was announced that all worldwide wts construction is "suspended" for an indefinite time, except for the new world headquarters at warwick.. also, the "relocation" of remote translating teams is also suspended.. finally, there will be a "worldwide" reduction in bethel personnel.. all this came to me in a non-english language, and,as noted, 4th-hand.
so it is possible something may have been lost in translation and/or in the multiple steps between bethel morning worship & me.. but if true, it would be quite stunning.

drawcad: about two weeks ago I was talking to a brother who had just come back from Warwick. He was there to help out with the tile work. That is what he does in the real world. He told me that some times they had to do a job 2 or 3 times before it was up to standards. I thought, isn't this what you do for a living. Then I thought, maybe it is all of the incompetent help that you are given to do the project.
You are right, drawcad, the incompetent help would not have the knowledge or skills to be competent helpers for tile installation and I am not surprised there were deficiencies. I would have been surprised it there wasn't.
Most people think that anything to do with the trades is a cake walk. Little do they realize the years and years of training required in order to be proficient at commercial flooring installations. And, all the other trades, too, that require specialized knowledge and skill..
Getting a journeyman certificate in any of the construction trades takes years and years of committment and hard work. It isn't something that just anyone can do.
Egads...I can't imagine being the one to have to tear out a badly installed tile floor and do it again...for the third time. I have done that work before and it isn't pretty. Everybody would have to give me a really wide berth for a while. It wouldn't be safe to come near me or even within a hammer throw of me.

MuddyWaters: I love this!! Thank you for for posting this photo -- and thanks to Orphan Crow here, I love examining the Society's pictures now --......
Cool. According to the leaked letter, the artwork in the new "workbooks"/coloring books has a prominent role. Examining the artwork in the workbook is part of the new meeting format.

In connection with this change, Our Kingdom Ministry is being replaced by a new four-color, eight-page monthly publication entitled Our Christian Life and Ministry—Meeting Workbook (mwb). This publication is intended for Jehovah’s Witnesses and for those who regularly attend our meetings. It outlines the weekly meeting schedule and features artwork designed to make your personal reading of the Bible more meaningful. It is a workbook that prompts you to make personal notes.
....................
Thereafter, the chairman will introduce the first section of the meeting, called Treasures From God’s Word. The first part in this section will be a ten-minute talk based on the weekly Bible reading and artwork from the work- book. -

wifibandit: The final talk was by Brother Jackson and was Have you received the mark for survival...
What? There is a "mark of survival"? Besides the "mark of the beast'??
What is the "mark of survival"? Not another splash of blood over the door, is it? Because I am good on that one - I have a jar of lamb's blood in my freezer all waiting for the big day. Now what do I have to do??

Pete: Wasn't there a mass shooting in a train station in France and another in Australia not too long ago?
I am not sure about France, but...about Australia's last mass shooting:
On April 28, 1996, a gunman opened fire on tourists in a seaside resort in Port Arthur, Tasmania. By the time he was finished, he had killed 35 people and wounded 23 more. It was the worst mass murder in Australia’s history.
Twelve days later, Australia’s government did something remarkable. Led by newly elected conservative Prime Minister John Howard, it announced a bipartisan deal with state and local governments to enact sweeping gun-control measures. A decade and a half hence, the results of these policy changes are clear: They worked really, really well.
.................................
........................................
What happened next has been the subject of several academic studies. Violent crime and gun-related deaths did not come to an end in Australia, of course. But as theWashington Post’s Wonkblog pointed out in August, homicides by firearm plunged 59 percent between 1995 and 2006, with no corresponding increase in non-firearm-related homicides. The drop in suicides by gun was even steeper: 65 percent. Studies found a close correlation between the sharp declines and the gun buybacks. Robberies involving a firearm also dropped significantly. Meanwhile, home invasions did not increase, contrary to fears that firearm ownership is needed to deter such crimes. But here’s the most stunning statistic. In the decade before the Port Arthur massacre, there had been 11 mass shootings in the country. There hasn’t been a single one in Australia since.*full article at link
