Disaster Kit

i was at walmart when i seen a disaster survival kit.

then something came to my mind.

remember all the instructions given about having these kits?

JeffT: Funny. I was only in from 1973 to 1988, but I seem to remember being told that such things showed a like of faith that Jehovah would take care of his people.

Yes, I remember that. I left in '71 but I remember my mom and dad being mocking of those who built bomb shelters and such in the post WW2 years. The JWs of that time were of the mind that "Jehovah would save them" and that they wouldn't need such foolishness.

Ha! Little did they know that Judge Rutherford's Beth Sarim had an elaborate bomb shelter. He didn't trust Jehovah to miraculously save him either. I wonder where the GB's bomb shelter is now that Beth Sarim is long gone.

GreatTeacher: Thanks, Lisa Rose. I believe it. I guess I need to review what codependency is. Is it a need to be associated with something because it provides some benefits that meet their needs even though there are negative consequences?

Sorry, don't mean to butt in here...LisaRose's post is excellent.

Just wanted to add that the negative consequences are what reinforce the misguided beliefs. The more negative the consequences (persectution and blood sacrifice), the more the adherent pereceives that they are right and everybody else is wrong.

in this video the popular saudi cleric sheik yahya al-jana discusses the joys of paradise, saying that men will have the strength of a hundred men in paradise and will be busy tearing hymens, while the virgins of paradise, whose breasts are like pomegranates, become virgins every time again.. the cleric also explains it is mostly men who enter paradise noting that women in general are bad because they refuse to wear the veil, they wear tight clothes in shopping malls, put on perfume and jewelry, and use filthy social media platforms.

source.... this is what young men from conservative muslim families are raised on.

is it any wonder islamic countries treat women appallingly?.

That is true. Peters rarely takes shots at religion - his comedy is race directed. The majority of the Arab race is Islamic. So, I guess I was racial profiling by posting that clip...

SSC: All you have to do is look at the religious material of stand up comics - by far most of them see it as open season on Christianity but don't come near the subject of Islam.

wifi: I guess they got complaints from the R&F that these digs were nicer than theirs.

Those digs look pretty plain Jane to me. Nothing fancy and nothing too pricey. Other than the door hardware on the cabinets - those are a bit more than standard. But still, not over the top at all. Not even a backsplash and only a single sink. Cost cutting.

TOURISM and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi has urged Zimbabweans to honour their prophets instead of flying to countries as far afield as Nigeria and Ghana to look for salvation.
Speaking during celebrations to mark the World Tourism Day in Harare last Friday, Minister Mzembi said honouring local prophets would help attract tourists and boost revenue generation.
“We should put our faith in local prophets instead of having fellow Zimbabweans flooding countries like Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa for spiritual confrontations,’’ he said.
Minister Mzembi said the tourism sector required initiatives that attracted more people to visit the country.
“We should embrace our local prophets to promote their international mileage so they can easily attract more delegates into the country. Let them come to fill our hotels by visiting local prophets than us going to them. We need to run by the theme: ‘Get them here, Get their money and Get them out’,” he said.
He said the recently held “Judgment Night 3” crusade attracted a number of international visitors searching for spiritual guidance.
“Many religious pilgrimage sites are endowed in the country and they could contribute to an influx of religious tourists flocking into the country as witnessed last year in the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Ebenezer, Judgment night and Night of Bliss,” he said.
He added that religious tourism was fast growing into a multi-billion industry and records 300 million travellers globally every year.
“We have several high ranking religious events bringing together about 180 000 people from Zimbabwe and other parts of the globe as they come to witness and experience the power of God through local prophets,” he said.
Minister Mzembi said Zimbabwe has received visitors seeking spiritual deliverance from Europe and Asia.
