  what better way to scam a few hundred million off the top?

  with all the conversations, and truly distractions, of shortfalls and money problems - sell off about 1.2 billion of highly valued, tax exempt, property in brooklyn ny and build an ehhh 500 million property upstate.

  what happened to the missing 700 million?

  That's nearly $83,000 per "donee" on average. Just who are these people and what did they do to warrant getting such a large grant? That amount is surely much larger than the average JW earns annually.

  I replied to your comment on the oher thread about money but will do so here as well.

  That amount is simply representative of a paper transaction to "forgive" Kingdom Hall loans. It is a side step to fall in line with the allowable "donation" system of income. Loans are not considered an allowable form of revenue for charities.

  i am intrigued to know if there is truly any evidence of financial irregularities in the jehovah's witness organisation or if any one or group are raking off funds or benefitting financially...?.

  whilst i disagree wholeheartedly with most of their teachings and practices, dogmatism, legalism and superiority complex, i don't honestly think there's anyone making millions at the top.

  yes you could say that the gb are comfortably off, don't have to pay bills etc but they do actually get up in the morning and 'work', they aren't going off in private jets to tropical islands or driving bentleys.

  Changing meanings of words: "Brother" and "Sister".

  ever notice how most jws use the titles "brother" and "sister"?

  in my experience, 99% of the time it was not a term of endearment.

  it was actually a term of formality very much like "mister", "mrs.", "miss" or "ms.".

  Alive: When I first started attending meetings, I found the use of brother so and so and sister so and so very much on the 'icky' spectrum. I never really liked it as a form of address, and avoided using it.

  Calling people "brother" and "sister" is icky.

  It is done to create a false sense of "family" and "trust".

  Personally, I find it to be incestuous. It creeps me out when someone says "Oh..Brother so-and-so married Sister so-and-so."

  And people wonder why cults encourage incestuous relationships...yeah...go figure. Did you marry your "sister" or your "brother"? Would you?

  Oubilette: The lack of financial transparency was always one of the things that really bothered me about this religion.
  Every congregation publicly reports their accounts every month, but "mother" keeps her's secret.

  The WTS' lack of transparency is why the Charity Intelligence Canada has given the Watchtower Society an "F" grade.

  I don't think so.

  The document states:

  "Each elder must destroy anything he "inadvertently" kept such as his personal notes from any judicial matter he dealt with."

  In the secular world that operates on real law, not the WT law, those "inadvertent" personal notes are called "police notes". Police notes are often critical in investigating and prosecuting criminal cases.
