in this age of violence with the san bernardino and france massacres sometimes it's good to reflect on the wise words of the peace advocates among us who proposed a better solution in bringing a more civil society to our universe.
john lennon, martin luther king jr. - people who stood up for equal rights and world peace and denounced violence and war - no matter how that violence occurs.
please feel free to comment on stories of john lennon on this thread and feel free to post any you tubes of his music that you may have enjoyed through the years.
Flipper: Can you imagine if Lennon's killer had been stalking him for years and years - how creepy would THAT be ? Gives me the chills just thinking about it. I swear- there are so many psycho's in this world it's pathetic.
Chapman was quite insane. He had made an earlier trip to New York in October with intent to kill Lennon but wasn't successful until the December shooting.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_David_Chapman
Chapman allegedly started planning to kill Lennon three months prior to the murder.
He had been a big Beatles fan, idolizing Lennon, and played guitar himself, but turned against him after claiming to become a Christian; he was angered at Lennon's comment that the Beatles were "more popular than Jesus."
I read Catcher in the Rye a few years back, curious about the novel that Chapman had so readily and obsessively identified with. It seemed a rather innocuous novel until at one point (I can't remember which chapter), it was brilliantly revealed that the protogonist was insane. Very insane. After that, the novel became chilling.
i say take care of the needy ones first like our veterans and homeless and mentally ill, and then....take care of those not from this country.
I have heard this rhetoric so many times for so many years. "What's More Important...Taking care of immigrants or the needy in your country?"
However, I have noticed that the people who say it to me are the very same people who didn't give a shit about the needy before another pressing humanitarian need was imminent. And, that the moment that pressing need was satisfied or not newsworthy anymore...those same people go back to passing the homeless on the street and whining about "they should go and get a job".
I think it is called "passing the buck". Or something like that...

A little bit of poking around turned up this information:

And that Howard Zemsky is a Managing Partner at Taurus Capital partners LLC.

A little bit more poking around and I found this article published in August 2015:
The deadline for the public to comment to the Empire State Development Corp. (ESD) on the proposed Pier 6 development in Brooklyn Bridge Park is Monday, Aug. 31, at 5 p.m.
The board of the ESD will have a major decision on their hands. While the city says two high-rise towers at the park’s Atlantic Avenue entrance are financially necessary and provide a spot for affordable housing, opponents – including neighborhood organizations, officials and local residents -- have presented a nearly solid wall of opposition.
At the end of the article, we find out a little bit more about the Managing Partner of Taurus Capital LLC, a Reibling company.
Board of Directors of the Empire State Development Corp.
Howard Zemsky, (Ex Officio Director); Empire State Development, President and CEO; NYS Department of Economic Development, Commissioner

Understanding Jehovah's Witness Children - A Guide For Schools
By Caroline Norton
A vital tool for all professionals who work with children. The chances are that one day, if not already, you will be assigned a child to assist who is being brought up by Witness parents. In order to be able to help them you need to know the basic language and structure, the safeguarding policies, procedures and practices of Jehovah's Witnesses. Every school should have this guide.
welcome to canada from one immigrant to another !.
calgary is welcoming it's first refugees from syria and iraq so tomorrow i'm going to take all the winter clothing that we have and donate it to a women / children's charity.
it's not much (well, actually, it's a huge pile ... everything from when we first moved over!
talesin: Something I was thinking, is that there may be many volunteers needed for ESL work, especially conversational English. Check with the local Library for that - they should have an ESL volunteer program there.
I am on it, Talesin.
Last week, I applied for a volunteer ESL tutor at the library and will be starting soon. I just had my intake interview today and I am waiting for a pairing with a learner and I might be doing some small group tutoring too.
I probably won't be tutoring the Syrian refugees who are expected here shortly - we have a large backlog of immigrants who have been waiting for some time now - around 400 on the waiting list. I will probably have Asian learners as their culture is one I am familiar with. Our city has quite a diverse immigrant population...maybe I will do some work with Russians, too. My grandparents were Russian immigrants to this country and I miss the sound of the Russian voice.
I have taught ESL before and it was very rewarding. I am pretty excited to be doing this.

does anyone know if the jws have very printed a picture of, what might be considered, a nativity scene in any of their literature?
i think it would funny to create a christmas card using their own artwork!

You are welcome, Mephis.

ILoveTTATT2: The Photodrama of Creation has a nativity scene complete with "silent night"
I tried to post this before but maybe I had too many images...here are the postcards from the photodrama:
the home: http://www.jah-jireh.org/.
the independent report: http://www.cqc.org.uk/sites/default/files/new_reports/aaab3073.pdf.
That is a damning report.
It is evident that the JW elderly are given the same treatment as children - don't report issues to the proper authorites and ignore everything except the Bible studies and meetings. And the poor residents - saying that everything is great just because they get to pray before each meal.
What a shit show. A total ignorance and disregard for regulatory measures by the management and staff with the only proper attention given to the residents' "spritual health" and no regards given to their physical and emotional health.
I wonder if there had been family members who had laid complaints which prompted this inspection or if this was just a regular inspection.
A very disturbing report.
