  I think it is a bit short sighted to blame the "hammer" on being instigated by "other corrupted religions".

  Not everyone who is anti-JW is part of "other corrupted religions". Russia has concerned citizens who engage in activism against the WTS' dangerous policies and teachings (...we have apostate friends in Russia, too).

  Russia also has activists:

  A group of local "anti-sect" activists, Youth Emergency Assistance, has claimed credit for triggering the Belgorod liquidation suits by repeatedly filming Jehovah's Witnesses in the streets and informing police of the distribution of allegedly "extremist" literature. The group has posted videos on its VKontakte page of members confronting Jehovah's Witnesses who have set up literature stands, then calling the police, who arrive and take the Jehovah's Witnesses away, often accompanied by the activists.

  
  Previously, a Russian judge made a statement as to why the JWs were considered in violation of Russia's laws:

  ...Belgorod Regional Prosecutor's Office accused the Jehovah's Witnesses of "violations .. associated with the dissemination of extremist content (advocating the superiority or inferiority of a person on grounds of religious affiliation or attitude to religion) .. an inclination to refuse medical assistance to people in a life-threatening condition on religious grounds, and the destruction of family and kinship relations on the basis of religious differences".

  Exactly.

  One of the expectations of JW membership is that they are to be anti-government at all times and especially when the WTS deems it to be appropriate.

  The JWs are anti-everything but what really gets them in hot water is their anti-government stance. And their suicidal loyalty requirements under the blood ban.

  They behave as though they are a resistance force led by a US based religion that attempts to force their version of "freedom of religion" on everybody else. They call themselves a religion but they behave like a political force.

  I agree. An abbreviated and sanitized version of Revelation will trump some of the crazy stuff and obvious errors in past publications.

  The WTS needs a new streamlined Revelation book to go along with their streamlined website. A new Revelation book/pamphlet would make the other books "past expiry date". As in..."oh, but we don't believe that anymore..."

  The old Revelation commentary is a skin that needs shedding...and they are going to grow a shiny new one

  i don't really engage in doctrinal discussions about jw's anymore.

  they seem to say some pretty crazy stuff.

  but i have read some threads discussing doctrinal changes and how watchtower is really out of ideas and money at the same time.

  Well...technically...the sun doesn't rise. The earth moves, not the sun. That is semantics. Exactly what the structuralists are credited with giving to postmodernism - language as the signifier of political positioning.

  I am surprised that you are using Gaad as a proponent for your position, Cofty. I did a quick look at his bio and I wouldn't use him as a spokesperson for hard science. His discipline is soft science at best - soft science with a heavy dose of cultural bias worked into it.

  Gaad studied under Russo at Concordia University in Montreal. It took me a while to pull that name out of my memory but I remember critiquing his studies in research methodology class when I took my psychology degree. His studies did not hold up to the rigorous examinations that my professor put them through. Russo's studies were incredibly culturally biased.

  Not only that, but there was a graduate student doing his masters in social psych at the time too (he did his undergrad at Concordia). He was always getting his proposals rejected by the faculty because he refused to give up Russo's theories. Russo was not respected in the psych department I attended. It was generally thought that he gave science a bad name. But...I did have some hard core professors who were unforgiving and idealistically motivated.

  cofty: Pomo might have something interesting to say about literature or politics. It has no place in the natural sciences.

  Where post modernism has a place in natural sciences is in the position of critiquing it. The premise of pomo is that a discipline, such as Gaad follows, neglects to consider the cultural bias of the one proposing the behavioral theory. The hypotheses, used by evolutionary behaviorists such as Gaad, come from the position of advancing the modernist narrative - the "Grand Narrative" - as opposed to considering the actual fragmented nature of the human experience.

  cofty: Orphan Crow - Gad Saad is an intellectual. He is not some internet jockey poking fun at things he can't understand. He has read lots of postmodern literature and isn't afraid to point out the Emperor's dangling genitalia.

  Gaad is an evolutionary behavioral psychologist. Educated at Concordia University in Montreal. I am familiar with what that means. And, I highly doubt if he has embarked on an in depth study of post modernist political theory. I could be wrong, mind you...but his video speaks for itself

  Lol! that was entertaining.

  Listening to Gaad deride the French post-modernists was like listening to a 10 year old child make fun of algebra equations because he has no comprehension about what it means. Typically, people make fun of what they cannot understand and will be sarcastic about that which is beyond their comprehension. It is their way of trying to bring things down to a level that they can participate in it or feel superior to that which is beyond them.

  Gaad is infantile. The video operates at the level of an evangelical minister taking pot shots at Satan.
