Yeah, TD, you're right. It doesn't matter how you word it or look at it...it is insulting to women

Poor Sisters
by Darryl ini really felt for you sisters i mean i really did.
when you showed up at the sunday meeting and found out the subject of the talk was going to be -and i can't quite remember the exact wording- but something to the effect of marriage and headship, or honoring and obeying your husband, or something like that how many of you wanted to jump right back in your car and head home.
i mean 45 straight minutes of beating down you poor ladies and telling you that you are not worthy of making one decision, taking the lead in anything, don't question the man be obedient and keep quiet.

Keep the meeting going! (even if somebody's dying)

Sorry, tenacious, but I stand by my assertion. This approach is wrong:
"The brothers should have told the sister not to attend the meetings or do anything that would make her husband fly off the handle. "
This is an approach that places the responsibility of the violent person's actions on the victim. This is not an approach that works. It does NOT work to be compliant. This is a myth that is prevalent in society that needs to be corrected and encouraging this behavior is what keeps the cycles of violence active

rebel8: How we are unable to mentally function when we were riding our cycles
hahaha! I love this one.
They overlook the biological fact that when a woman is PMSing, that she is the most like a man in hormone production. The reason we are unable to function mentally...is because we function like men at that time!!!!

Doc:
So sisters are NOT allowed to have any positions of responsibility in the congregation and to direct men in any way, BUT form part of the 144,000 anointed remnant responsible for judging and RULING over ALL mankind, including men? Wait... am I missing something here???
You're failing to consider that upon their resurrection to their heavenly award, HE [God] will make them perfect and those in heaven have no gender, thus they will have the balance of their brain* and thinking ability restored and be able to judge and rule with wisdom in perfection. For now they are gullible like their mother, Eve, and in their state of inherited sinfulness they are weaker and overly "emotional" (especially during ......well you know).
* [reference to Sam Herd's talk on women]
Don't tase me ladies. NOT my view. Just reiterating the views of the GB/WTS!Such a contradiction, isn't it?
And, that whole thing about 'genderless' is bullshit - the depictions in the illustrations always show the 144,000 as male and only male. I guess when Jehobah 'perfects' them that the perfect gender will be male.
The women being allowed admittance to that privileged class was, I believe, a way that the early women in the movement, with influence in the society, were appeased. They had no 'real' power other than their financial donations, and they were handed the golden ticket to keep them happy. I am thinking of those women who Russell named in his will and who he referred to as "his bride" or..."the bride of Christ". And the wealthy women who were JWs - like the Heath women - one married to the Coca Cola tycoon and another married to the president of the World Bank. Those women and women like them. Money but the wrong anatomical makeup. So...they got to drink the wine and get the promise of being made over into men who rule with Christ

Convicted Child Rapist Proselytizing. Is the Community Aware? Is the Community Safe?
by freemindfade inwow, this is awesome.
this really shows the jw passiveness towards child sex abusers.
there needs to be more of this exposing this!.

...and some more background
He sexually assaulted 2 sisters and possibly a 3rd, in the past several years since he was released. The elders did nothing and the sisters eventually moved to different congregations

Hadriel: Seems like most of these situations are with those whose offense happened in the 80's or before the mid 90's. At least it appears that way.
They may have been lost in the shuffleI have been following this on reddit
This man was in prison when he was converted by JWs. They knew he was a child rapist. When he was released, he became a good, active JW - so good in fact, that the elders allowed him to do activities with kids (except the elder's kids)
He wasn't lost in the shuffle - he was groomed by the elders themselves while he was still inside his jail cell and then, after he was released, the elders 'kept an eye on him'
According to reddit...I think I have the gist of that part

I conclude evolution is guided
by KateWild inyour qualifications are way above mine so i'd love to hear more about the specifics of what you have researched and how that supports the existence of a deity.
k99, i am not really convinced that you're interested in my conclusions.
in nature amino acids formed to then form dna.

Hadriel, you didn't answer my question
I know how the scientific process works

hadriel: ...if you can prove how RNA became DNA how amino acids were charged beginning the chaining of life you'll get a Nobel Price if you can't you MUST accept other possibilities and that is really all I'm saying.
Can you please define what you mean by "other possibilities"? I don't really understand your statement
Saying "...you MUST accept other possibilities" leads me to assume that you mean that if someone cannot offer an explanation scientifically for how RNA became DNA...then the only recourse they have is to accept this undetermined "other".
That makes no sense. Science does not work like that

Paranormal Warning
by Cold Steel ini've heard some weird stories coming from jws about the paranormal.
i know about the warnings about items that come from unbelievers -- those don't interest me as much.
what i am interested in are actual experiences in stories of the paranormal you've heard or experienced yourself.

ucantnome: 'we were looking for "Mr. Stiffy" - the undertaker that was said to hang out there on occasion. Fun times'
It's less fun if a "Mr. Stiffy" moves in unexpectedly and uninvited to your house and stays for months. It's okay...I don't let creatures like that rent space in my head
And, if there is such a thing as spirit creatures...IF....then it only stands to reason that they have no impact on the physical world. If they want to come visit me...I don't mind company. IF they exist, they have no power

Tenacious: I believe I heard mom say he would beat the sister and tried to keep her from attending. You would think the idiot brothers would tell her to cooperate with him but instead probably pushed her to fight him in order to attend. Boy oh boy.
Boy oh boy is right
You would think the idiot brothers would have known that telling a woman to cooperate with an man who beats her is a stupid thing to say
The woman needed, first of all, the police, and then domestic violence counselling and a safe place to get away from him. No woman should be told to cooperate as a way of solving family violence issues
