cofty: I'm genuinely puzzled by their legal tactics in this case. It seems perfectly designed to maximise damage.
What on earth are they hoping to achieve? Now they have seriously annoyed the CC who have the power to hurt them. Why did they not welcome them and give them complete cooperation?
Is it just arrogance or is it possible that they know they are sitting on a problem of such proportions that it will destroy them?
Me too. Puzzled
So much of this doesn't make sense
I will add questions:
Do they have the backing of entities who have a mutual interest in keeping child abuse secret and enclosed within the power of an institution? Are there larger interests being served? How deep do the pockets go and why?

[about third sector for those not in the uk:.
"third sector is the uk’s leading publication for everyone who needs to know what’s going on in the voluntary and not-for-profit sector."].
vidiot: Pssh.
The WTS is "charitable" the way Bill and Ted were "guitarists".
Well, yeah. We know that
Now the rest of the world can find out too
The 'charitable' work of the WTS has only been undertaken because it was required activity to qualify for tax breaks
The WTS has done all sorts of contortions and misrepresented themselves on tax returns in order to fall under the third sector umbrella.
For example, in Canada, the individual congregations' tax returns list an elder as "Fund Raising Chairman" (a few years back...not sure how they file now). That is quite the transformation from being a "Shepherd of the Flock", an elder ...in charge of spiritual welfare...only. And, the fund raising activities fell under "Pamphlet Campaigns"...you know, like canvassing towns to invite people to the Memorial. All the JW 'religious' activities were re-labelled in order to qualify for filing as a 'charity'
I only wish that their entire tax filings were made transparent. They should be - it is the public who gave them their tax breaks. It is time they are held accountable
latest update from 18 july 2016. good afternoon,.
i am writing to give you a quick update about our ongoing statutory inquiries into safeguarding and charities linked to jehovah’s witnesses.. as you may know, one of our inquiries is into watch tower bible and tract society of britain.
we opened this inquiry in 2014. watch tower then initiated what turned out to be protracted litigation against us.
darspilver: Why has the Guardian only reported it today?
...ummm...good journalism takes time, manpower and the stories generated by that commitment bow to precedent?
Sorry, darspilver...your personal concerns about the WTS do not sit at the center of the universe
You sound like you have been spoiled by the speed of the digital world. Good journalism still requires human beings to make it function and relies on solid research (time)
anyone else also hold this view or understand it at least, or do you feel the need to argue that both can in no way coexist?.
vidqun: Well, I will also make a prediction. They will not find life on Mars or anywhere else in the solar system (except earth) because life, in any form, cannot be kick started by itself, not in a million years.
So.
Let's see if I have this right
You propose that some undefinable intelligence exists
That intelligence made the planet earth
On this tiny, tiny, little speck of dust in the universe, that intelligence stuck a 'man'
And there is no other life in this great big universe that the intelligence made
Huh
The universe sounds sort like the foreskin argument - just don't need it
anyone else also hold this view or understand it at least, or do you feel the need to argue that both can in no way coexist?.
JamesBrown: Hopefully, this earth is a stopping point or training ground on life's journey
I sort of think there is some basis for the hypothesis that this planet is the universe's insane asylum. It will sometimes cross my mind when I delve into threads like these
But, then, I have always had a morbid fascination with madness and insanity
As far as the evolution vs creationism so-called 'debate'...watch this

Thanks for posting this article, Barbara
sir82: Perhaps you could have pointed out any addition information the article you posted contained to those already posted - I would have found that helpful and informative
It is helpful. It is the source and viewpoint that is critical (as Barbara pointed out). It reports on the issue from the viewpoint of the third sector - the world of the non-profits
I find it interesting that this article identifies the JW organization as a 'charity' rather than a 'religion', which is the usual label attached to them when they are in the news.
The WTS has relentlessly pursued whatever avenue of tax category they could over the years, transforming themselves from 'business' status in the pre-war days, to a 'religious' status in the post-war days, and then, the recent jump onto the non-profit bandwagon. They have taken advantage of every tax break they could, changing structurally and doctrinally wherever and whenever the $$$ wind$ in tax regulations suited them
Now, it bites them in the a$$. Along with the nice tax breaks that a corporation gets once they decide to enter into the non-profit sector and qualify as a 'charity', comes the inevitable scrutiny that is attached to that tax exemption privilege
And the WTS doesn't like it one little bit.
It is time to pay the price, Watchtower. For all those years of $$$ privilege that you have enjoyed. Show us what you have. Show us who you are. The public wants to know. It is our right to know
anyone else also hold this view or understand it at least, or do you feel the need to argue that both can in no way coexist?.
I dunno
Maybe
You would have to ask her...
Hey, Viv, have you killed any cereals lately? How about those bran flakes? Is your oatmeal still alive?
anyone else also hold this view or understand it at least, or do you feel the need to argue that both can in no way coexist?.
wow, this is awesome.
this really shows the jw passiveness towards child sex abusers.
there needs to be more of this exposing this!.
They are in the right organization
