she died because of her religious principles.

Stephane: I bet they will say the coroner will have done a bad job. That he didn't truly cooperate with the HLC to understand fully everything that was involved. He is just a coroner, not a doctor, this case was too complicated for him to get it. Well, the JWs can say what they like but a Canadian coroner might have a bit different standards than they do.

The coroner in this case is Luc Malouin. I couldn't find much about his qualifications or background other than he has investigated some significant cases.

I did find this which explains what to expect for Canadian coroner qualifications:

The provinces of Alberta,[7] Manitoba,[8] Nova Scotia[9] and Newfoundland and Labrador[10] have a Medical Examiner system, meaning that all death investigations are conducted by specialist physicians trained in Forensic Pathology, with the assistance of other medical and law enforcement personnel. All other provinces run on a coroner system. In Prince Edward Island, and Ontario, all coroners are, by law, physicians. In the other provinces and territories with a coroner system, namely British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Quebec, New Brunswick, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon, coroners are not necessarily physicians but generally have legal, medical, or investigative backgrounds.

Of course there will be the true believers who will remain true believers in the face of whatever. But, there will also be those, both in the JWs and in the public, who will be waiting with great interest to discover what the Quebec coroner has to say

i know i will get a lot of backslash on this forum for saying this, but as it looks like, i won't ever be able to escape the jws.

i have been a born in, third generation jw and awoken in one way or another (i joined this forum 15 years ago) for a very long time.

but i have adapted to the jw lifestyle to a point where it does not bother me anymore.

Stealth: I Didn't intend to come off as being sexist in my comment about watching porn. I was just speaking from my own experience after leaving the cult and dating women on the outside.
I had no issues what so ever with meeting and interacting with worldly women with the exception of my lack of sexual experiences and that was a direct result of being raised a JW and their bedroom rules. And yes, watching a little porn did help me get up to speed in that area.

I can understand that but a lack of sexual experience is not a very good reason to stay in the org.

Saying that all he has to do is watch some porn to figure out worldly women lacks perspective. It says that the only reason that he fails as a confident male is solely based on whether or not he can measure up sexually. That is not what most 'worldly' women want in a mate. There is far more to a relationship than knowing how to behave like a porn star.

The best way that a man can learn how to be sexy is to learn how to respect women outside of the bedroom. And I am not talking about doing it on the kitchen counter or in the laundry room either.

If he wants to learn how to interact with women, he needs to learn how to treat them like more than a sexual plaything. And preying on vulnerable JW women isn't going to help him.

To be fair, I don't think he is much different than any male that has been raised with the sense of male entitlement that the org promotes and practices. It is a difficult indoctrination to overcome and sadly, a lot of JW males never do. And not just JW males.

Rather than watching porn to try to figure out what to do with women, maybe taking the view that women are more than an sexual object would be a good place to start.

The term "bloodless surgery", in the early to mid 20th century, was used by chiropractors.

Where this term came from was from the practice that was modeled on Dr. Adolph Lorenz's avoidance of invasive surgical methods due to his allergy to carbolic antiseptic. He developed a 'deep massage' technique that allowed him to manipulate a person's internal organs and bones without using conventional surgical procedures. This method was picked up and practiced by those in the chiropractic profession.

George Starr White, a chiropractor whom the WT supported and promoted, also practiced this method of bloodless 'surgery' (manipulation). Another practitioner who followed this method was none other than Felix Kersten, the so-called doctor who treated Heinrich Himmler during WW2 (and, incidentally, Kersten ended up in Switzerland after the war).

How J.W came to the idea to catch up that term "bloodless surgery" or was it "bloodless medicine" is presumeable accidently. (?) because it is not really "bloodless" but "transfusion-less".

The WT has always been pro-chiro and pro-osteopath - in other words, anti-AMA.

It is not surprising that Dr. Major Bertrand DeJarnette dropped the use of the term in the 60s because that is when Dr. Cooley developed a method for doing open heart surgery that required the heart to be free from blood while it was being repaired. Cooley's method was never meant to be used for surgery that could be handled by conventional means - it was the JWs who came up with the brilliant idea to use that same method for surgeries that did not require a bloodless field.

And as far as bloodless surgery being "transfusion-less"...it isn't. The entire field of bloodless surgery is dependent upon transfusion technology - it does involve transfusions. Transfusions of a patient's own blood. What bloodless surgery avoids is donor blood (sort of...a lot of the drugs and products now used in bloodless surgery have blood components in them). Once transfusion technology was advanced enough, that is when 'bloodless' invasive surgery became possible. And that is when the chiropractors dropped the use of the term.

Nothing. We can't say anything that they will listen to.

However, I think that the WT should be forced, legally, to include all risks and limitations of the alternative procedures that they promote, on the forms that they so lovingly supply.

No other corporate structure, or individual, would be allowed to promote a medical procedure without also being transparent about the risks involved. Nowhere on their forms do they tell the women what risks are involved in taking medications and products that weren't designed to do what the HLC says they should be used for. Almost all of the WT's alternative treatments are used in an "off-label" fashion - the products were not designed to be used for avoiding blood transfusions. They are using drugs designed for conditions that the patient doesn't have - their medical condition is a manufactured one. The JWs have become a high risk blood group based on superstition and fantasy.

The JWs rely on the HLC to give them medical support and yet the HLC do not give them accurate and comprehensive information about the drugs and products they promote.

The only risk that a pregnant JW women is made aware of is the risk of not getting to paradise. They think that they are refusing blood when in actuality, they are choosing to accept experimental use of alternative treatments that have a far higher risk than the blood they refused.

I think pressure should be brought upon the WT to give accurate medical information - they should be forced to list the side effects and risks of the off-label use of the products they promote and they should be forced to be transparent about the clinical trials and such that the JW patients are being used for.

And another thing. There are many documented cases in the medical literature that reveals that a JW patient, when actually faced with the life or death choice of taking blood or refusing it, will often take the blood. This is known in the medical world. It is documented that a person can and does change their mind. Based on that, I think that the HLC should not be allowed to speak to the patient. They should only be available as a consultant to the medical staff - NOT to the JW patient. The patient should be given the opportunity to make their decision on their own. After all, it is their conscience, isn't it?

Signing a noblood card when a person is fit and healthy is entirely different than standing on that decision when it means that you won't be able to hold your newborn baby ever again. The WT knows this and that is why the HLC won't mind their own business.

*to add:

Despite all the coverage, JWs wrap them up in a bundle and convince themselves that they are ALL mislead. That Eloise died of an infection, not blood lost.

That is why the coroner's report is going to be valuable. The JWs can continue to delude themselves but the rest of the world will know different.

nevaagain: Yep folks that right, I am trying to meet new girls. I seem to be able to handle JW girls fine. But worldly girls ... I feel I am not experienced enough to handle them and it is so damn easy to meet girls if you are a JW. You go to a new congregation or a an assembly and you can meet lots of girls there.

Ah. So you are one of those men who give JW men a bad name. You troll JW assemblies and Kingdom Halls to scope out the female prospects. You do know there is a name for that?

I totally can understand that you prefer women who are vulnerable to male advances. Women "in the world" know that they have options. No wonder worldly women scare you.

Good luck...I hear that women are desperate in the org. You should do fine. Just look for the young and eager ones. They won't be able to tell which head it is that you are thinking with.

Refusing blood transfusion: A free choice?

Exactly.

What they are ignoring is that Eloise's white blood cell count was lowered by her blood loss to the point that she was susceptible to infection without the body's resources to fight off that infection.

If Eloise had received a blood transfusion, her body would have had the white blood cells required to fight the infection and it is quite possible that she would never have an infection to begin with. (virus? was it really a virus or an infection?).

Erythropoietin. Yeah...the JWs believe that it is a miracle product that can magically restore blood cells. Well, it is rather remarkable that erythropoietin can stimulate red blood cell production in bone marrow. Its most common use is to be given to patients with kidney disease because our bodies produce erythropoietin naturally in our kidneys but this function is impaired in patients with kidney disease.

However, erythropoietin takes a significant amount of time to work (one website for dialysis patients claims that a person using it will take one to two months before they feel better) and the length of time it takes to work is what makes it less effective than a blood transfusion. It takes at least a full week of erythropoietin dosing to get the same benefit that only one unit of blood would give. And, in most cases after a uterine hemorrhaging incident, at least 3 units of blood are given.

Of course Erythropoietin didn't work - it is an inferior treatment option. Using it in the manner that the HLC recommends is an off label use of the product. (side note - erythropoietin is a banned substance for athletes - it is used for blood doping).

It is NOT superior to a blood transfusion in response to hemorrhaging and it comes with risks of its own. And it is expensive. If the HLC told the family that erythropoietin is superior to blood, they lied. It isn't.

It WAS the blood transfusion refusal that killed Eloise.

* to add - if the HLC really does have the patient's best interest in mind, where the hell were they when Eloise was making the decision to have a home birth? Why are JW women not told that their risk of dying from hemorrhaging is sky high in comparison to the general population? How come the HLC doesn't include that information on their 'pregnant woman' forms?

And according to a relative of Eloise, who shared information on Facebook, this treatment is presented not only as alternative, but in fact superior to blood transfusion, which is more risky. In fact, she said, hospitals suggest blood transfusion due to the fact that this treatment is far less expensive than the alternative.

Did that actually happen - that the HLC said there was an alternative treatment? Do you have any information on what this "alternative" was? Was Eloise told that this alternative was better?
