  RUMOUR - Regarding future memorials

  i heard this on the youtube channel - bad jw round table discussions and i normally don't give much thought to rumours, i did find this one interesting.one of the guys on the channel said that there are plans that 'the other sheep' will be told not to attend any future memorials.he was asked how credible was this and he said that it is talk going around by those in the know, just like there had been those that knew about the fairly recent new edition of the bible being in production.even if this is probably just a rumour, the idea has a lot of merit.

  the benefits for the organization outweigh the negatives and would fit in with their current direction.here are some of the benefits, for the org.

  that could come from it- the biggest benefit would come from not having to accommodate so many attendants, which are more than double a normal meeting.

  BluesBrother: No way are they going to ditch the biggest meeting of the year , the one that kick starts any Spring campaigns ... The Annual Memorial is a " must attend" for all dubs and those wavering will still come to that one.

  And just think of the $$$ that the annual Memorial nets - "we don't pass a collection plate....but don't forget that we welcome donations - especially from all you who feel guilty about not attending the rest of the year".

  As long as the Memorial makes money, it will be held. When it is no longer profitable, the doctrine will change. After all, that is where "divine inspiration' comes from - the org's god - $$$$$$$

  Do you have a source for that?

  I have always thought that both Knorr and Franz were "of the anointed" and that was the reason given for shouldering Rutherford's choice, Hayden Convington, out of the top job running the WTS. Convington wasn't anointed but Knorr and Franz were. This is the first I have heard that Knorr wasn't anointed.

  During a trial in February 2017, Guliyev pleaded guilty to all charges, publicly repented and, given the mitigating circumstances, was given a five-year prison term.

  I don't think the above article has reported that correctly.

  According to Forum 18, Guliyev was not given a prison term.

  Asaf Guliyev was given a five-year restricted freedom sentence on 24 February.

  A "restricted freedom" sentence is served in the community - it is not a prison term. The offender is under restrictions regarding movements and activity.

  *I had said "7" years before...but I had that wrong. It was a 5 year sentence of restricted freedom, not 7.

  dsp: Is it a province thingy in Canada?
  It's just that the following Canadian website apparently seems very open about linking to cases while still only in the investigation stage, which kinda seems weird now?

  I dunno if it is a province thingy. It could simply be a difference in the way that various law firms manage their practices.

  I don't find it weird.

  jwleaks: Not a good verdict for Ahmadov and I feel sorry for him and his family.

  No, it isn't a good verdict for Ahmedov. His co-accused had earlier received a 7 year sentence of "restricted freedom".

  Ahmedov's prison sentence is going to add to his problems. He has a medical condition that requires surgery to determine if it is cancer or not. His condition had been described as cancer since his arrest, yet his lawyer recently revealed that Ahmedov has yet to receive a diagnosis. Regardless, Mr. Ahmedov is in poor health.

  dsp: if they thought it important enough, surely they'd make sure you could access the page by navigating their website from the homepage....

  That normally happens after clients have signed up and after the case is filed. According to the information given, the case is in the investigation stage.

  This is standard class action procedure and has nothing to do with "if they thought it important enough". Once the case reaches the proper stage, then it will be linked to their website.

  If you check in the old Golden Age magazines of the late 20s (or maybe it was the Consolation mags of the 30s...), you will find articles that promote dried foods as being the miracle food for the "new millennium". Apparently that is how all the people who survived Armageddon were going to be fed.

  Well, the org does own this lovely piece of real estate in Almaty, Kazkhstan.

  In spite of individual JWs in Kazakhstan being charged with violations, according to this article, the JWs are likely not in threat of being banned there (estimates of 15,000 to 30,000 JWs in Kazakhstan):

  "...the issue of banning the organization is not worth it"

  That remains to be seen. Kazakhstan still remains a country where various religious sects are under scrutiny and targeted for violations of the law, especially in regard to evangelizing.
