Who is benefiting from Watchtower Corporation financially

i know about the gold apple watch, but that is only a small percentage of the billions that they have.

so who do you think is keeping all of this money.

I think that the WTS operates on an "outsourcing" model. Directed by the the donors who "insource" donations

Who benefits?

Well, back in the day, the paper manufacturing industry did. Look for JWs who are attached to that industry and you will find $$$ going into their pockets.

The bloodless industry benefits from the ever changing blood doctrine. Look for the many, many JWs attached to that industry.

had the misfortune of stopping by the "regional" convention yesterday.

i promised my daughter i would come to sunday afternoon so she wouldnt have to ride home with her mother.... holy crap it was weird!

im sure all of this has been covered on the forum but to actually see it.... just wow.

Generally, credits are given for a specific reason. Receiving support in the way of grant money usually has a caveat that requires credit being given on the final production. Just getting city approval for filming location usually does not have that caveat attached to it. But receiving financial support almost always does (*edit to add - maybe the city just waived the usual fees required to offset the location shoots).

Yeah. No big news there

The credits are one of the most important features when watching productions. They reveal the source and the bias along with all sorts of other interesting information at times. Just watching a film without paying attention to its production process is a bit superficial, I think. It's only value is entertainment if the viewer doesn't absorb more than just the eye candy.

That may be but it still doesn't account for the standard practice of the film industry to list that information as a location credit. The credits presented at the end, in the fashion it was, without designating that it was a location credit, generally indicates financial support.

To credit "the City of White Plains" is specific - it credits the city, not the kingdom hall property.

Well...I skimmed it. I didn't want to be exposed to those damned butterflies!

The ending was dramatic and done well enough to scare the bejehovah out of any kid watching. That scene (the salt transformation) will be the nightmare material for the 21st C JW kids. We had kids and bikes and dogs falling into cracks in the ground. This generation will be terrified of turning to salt.

Did you notice the credits at the end? Credit was given to the "City of White Plains, New York". Huh. The WTS must have received another one of those big grants. I wonder how much those grants are worth now*? In 2004, the WTS got a quarter million dollars as a grant from the city of New York. Maybe these horrific propaganda productions are being funded with taxpayers' money.

*I found it - in 2016 the WTS got $100,000 from the city of New York in grant money. Not sure how much they received from the City of White Plains to produce these videos

i just learned that my wife's congregations will soon be disbanded.

her congregation will disappear (cahuenga spanish in north hollywood in southern california).

all the members will be added to other neighboring congregations.

It is difficult to pick up on the haha! moments online sometimes. I don't always 'get' the humor. Mind you, my jokes fly over most people's heads too...what I find funny doesn't tickle everybody

Mmmm...not really on topic (and I apologize for being pedantic, but speaking of the internet...it is really easy to check facts)...I think you are crediting the wrong person for the invention of the internet:

If you had to isolate the key inventors of the Internet, it would have to be two people: Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn. The WWW, which is different from the Internet, but what most people think of as the "Internet", was invented later by Tim Berners-Lee.
Al Gore coined the term Information Superhighway, but he did not invent the Internet.

They can't.

But that is the true evil of "true belief". It gives the true believer a free pass on lying. They have to justify it to themselves. And through that, the lie becomes the "truth".

They have to lie - without the lie they are nothing. They have no truth to tell.

Yes. WT doctrine bends to the demands of the legal world. They are a legalistic organization that pretends to be a religion. The real "bible" resides within law libraries.

"Confession" must be advocated now - they need to claim clergy confidentiality in the courts. The doctrine changes as it is legally convenient or necessary for it to do so. And if they don't like a law, they challenge it and push it through, calling it "religious freedom". When that fails, they change their doctrine.

I will take a swing at this one.

Why is race important?

The WT's judicial process is a mini legal system - a system that sits within a larger system (even though they won't admit it). The WT's legal eagles are well aware of this and likely, they have encountered complaints from accused persons that were along the lines of complaints that could be regarded as racial discrimination in cases where the entire judicial committee were, for example, white and the accused was black.

I think that the WT is attempting to make sure that they aren't slapped with a racial discrimination suit if and when the accused perceives a race problem in the makeup of the judicial committee that was chosen.
