It makes no sense.

Why would the US investigate the org for "extremism" when just a couple weeks ago, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) announced that they have "adopted" a JW in Russia as part of their Prisoners of Conscience project?

WASHINGTON, DC – Kristina Arriaga, Vice Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), today announced that she is adopting two religious prisoners of conscience in Russia, Dennis Christensen and Ivan Matsitsky, as part of USCIRF’s Prisoners of Conscience Project. Mr. Christensen, a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, was arrested in Oryol, Russia, on May 25, 2017, following the raid of a prayer service in which he was participating. As of September 13, 2018, Mr. Christensen has appeared 38 times before Oryol’s District Court. He faces a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Mr. Matsitsky, the director of the Church of Scientology in St. Petersburg, was arrested on June 5, 2017, on various charges including involvement in “an extremist conspiracy.” He has been held in pretrial detention since his arrest.

Should kids learn cursive handwriting?

i am an elementary school teacher of the fourth grade.

in times past, students would start learning cursive handwriting in third grade and by fourth should be transitioning to writing in cursive at all times.

as you might be aware, this has all but been taken out of the curriculum.

sparky: I have wondered if giving up cursive writing would be detrimental in the long run for the mental and emotional health of a child and eventually for the maturing adult. Personally, I think it could be disastrous for a child's self-communication skills and ability to communicate with others clearly....

You are right on point, Sparky

The act of cursive writing aids in brain development. To a large degree.

The notion of what you call self-dialogue could be part of what it is that cursive writing encourages: communication between the right and left brain hemispheres. Self dialogue would arise out of whole brain thinking/functioning.

Russia=King of the North, USA=King of the South? New info coming in from Annual Meeting 2018

it was announced in this year’s annual meeting that they believe that the king of the north is russia and the king of the south is us/britain.

for me this is the first time hearing from the society actually identifying the identity of the king of the north.

guys, i've always wondered about this ,.

all the money grab,selling, consolidation of kh, real estate scam , who is the one who benefits from this elaborate scam, what's the deal ?

who is the mastermind, do the gb or whoever really runs the show really believe what they sell.

Or being included in the assessments that they are providing to the courts to be evaluated for how much victims receive for the org's negligence.

Does anyone else think that the amount the org submitted to the Montana court was a bit low? And was only for the US branch/headquarters?

We know that the org has assets tucked away in shell companies. Remember Valley Farms?

And really, how convenient that the org's "collapse" includes getting rid of those cumbersome property assets. Money is so much easier to deal with - send that cash on a trip around the world and watch the "asset" line on those court documents drop down.

The org has been hearing the devil's footsteps for some time. They are willing to sacrifice anybody and everybody to protect their asses/assets. They really could care less if the attendance drops and KHs are sold - a good justification for telling the courts - "we have no money to pay the victims" - and so much easier to handle. True believer$ only.

my wife found my crisis of conscience book and out came the horns plus i guess what she is hearing at the meetings isn't helping either.

StarryNight: A whole family is really weird... even if they somehow got into a religious frenzy.

Actually, I think that a family is more prone to this kind of behavior just because of how family dynamics work. A family, after all, is a micro cult - a JW family is a cult within a cult.

Shared delusions become amplified in isolation (this family spent three days in isolation - watching movies which were likely JW videos - not eating...) and...boom. the "campfire ghost stories" aka "borg bunker stories" became their reality. They acted on their reality - their true belief in what their religion has taught as the "truth".

I am with Cofty on this - I find it fascinating.

And I also suspect that this event makes lots of people a little uncomfortable and left asking themselves if they may have acted similarly at one time during their true belief stage.

What would it take to tip over into irrational behaviour based on irrational beliefs?

True believers

I don't think they have serious mental issues*. They are just JWs on Org broadcasting steroids.

They watched the bunker video too many times.

They succumbed to their delusions. Delusions that are held by over 8 million people worldwide. Delusions that have been planted in their brains by the WT/org.

*I need to qualify this...they do have serious mental issues. They are under the influence of a cult. Religious induced delusion leading to psychosis.
