stllMS: The only thing that makes me wonder is what's the Orphan Crow's interest in protecting Russian authorities almost in every thread where Russia's mentioned? How in the world can he know of some no-name Russian-language website mentioning the things he (just accidentally) needs to play Russia's advocate?
I am interested in accuracy, that's all. I find that the knee jerk reactions of most posters carry bias and I try to maintain a non-biased approach - I like to find out what is really happening rather than just what western media and the org reports. That is why I regularly visit jwform.eu to find out what exJWs inside of Russia are saying and what they report. And that is why I know of "some no-name Russian- language website."
Just because the info I present doesn't fit your narrative doesn't mean I am defending the Russian authorities. If you think that I am...that is fine too. Like I said...I am more interested in accuracy rather than in taking sides purely based on a pre-conceived political notion

Corney: Surely, media (that didn't even try to request for more details from police or for a comment from the org) won't correct or retract their reckless and dishonest coverage of this nothingburger...
This was reported in the Russian media:
https://7x7-journal.ru/anewsitem/112536
At trial, there was information that two grenades and a mine, found during searches in the house of one of the arrested, belong not to him, but to his relative-search engine. The weapon is not valid. Upon his discovery, a criminal case on the illegal possession of weapons was opened, he was allocated in a separate proceeding.
If media elsewhere isn't reporting this, it isn't because of the Russian media.

Corney: since there is nothing criminal in conducting religious meetings, "group singing of biblical songs, improving skills of conducting missionary activity, and studying religious literature, the so-called "Holy scripture" (bible)...
Actually, in Russia, it is criminal for people to conduct a meeting of a group that has been declared illegal and "extremist".
Of course a person can argue that the JWs shouldn't have been banned, but that is a different discussion. This event in the OP happened because they are an illegal organization in Russia. That is the reality.
Darth: Hi Orphan row. About the money... WTBT$ move money like pros - it's freely admitted in their own literature.
Yes, I know. There are many documented accounts of how JWs move money illegally across the world.
However, concerning the incidence under discussion, there is no need at all for the authorities to have to prove money laundering.
It is simply a crime in itself to collect funds for the purpose of organizing meetings of an illegal organization inside of Russia. That's all. No charges of money laundering needed.

Steve:
On the other hand, the police stating they found two hand granades and a land mine doesn't sound like that big an arsenalSounds more like WW2 souvenirs

Darth, I don't think that the JWs were found to be funneling money back to the US. They were simply found with that money. Collecting funds to organise extremist meetings would be sufficient to be considered unlawful under Russia's extremist laws
The JWs in Russia no longer have the right to organize or raise funds to do so. They are no longer a recognized religion and therefore no longer have religious rights.

New releases at annual meeting??
by _Morpheus inthis has been mentioned in passing but it seems to deserve its own thread.. this year at the rc, no releases.
instead they wait to drop them at the annual meeting which isnt a even simulcast event.
what is their thinking?
-
OrphanCrow
I think the releases at the AGM were a diversion.
It gives everyone something to talk about rather than question why their disaster fund shot up to 30 million.
Hey Dick, why do you think there is such a huge spike in disaster funds?
Look Jane! A new book! New light! Let's go show Sally!

The significance of 1919 is pretty simple.
That is the year that the WTS started doing their own printing. They bought their first printing presses that year.
"The word is god" and they were able to control "the word". The WTS owned their own means of production in 1919.

That is not in the realm of things I consider believable
It makes no sense.
Why would the US investigate the org for "extremism" when just a couple weeks ago, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) announced that they have "adopted" a JW in Russia as part of their Prisoners of Conscience project?
Vice Chair Arriaga Adopts Two Religious Prisoners of Conscience
Vice Chair Arriaga said, “These two cases are examples of the Russian government ‘securitizing’ religion—targeting religious communities it considers illegitimate on the pretext that they pose a national security threat”
WASHINGTON, DC – Kristina Arriaga, Vice Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), today announced that she is adopting two religious prisoners of conscience in Russia, Dennis Christensen and Ivan Matsitsky, as part of USCIRF’s Prisoners of Conscience Project. Mr. Christensen, a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, was arrested in Oryol, Russia, on May 25, 2017, following the raid of a prayer service in which he was participating. As of September 13, 2018, Mr. Christensen has appeared 38 times before Oryol’s District Court. He faces a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Mr. Matsitsky, the director of the Church of Scientology in St. Petersburg, was arrested on June 5, 2017, on various charges including involvement in “an extremist conspiracy.” He has been held in pretrial detention since his arrest.I don't trust Rick Fearon
His stories just don't check out

Should kids learn cursive handwriting?
by GrreatTeacher ini am an elementary school teacher of the fourth grade.
in times past, students would start learning cursive handwriting in third grade and by fourth should be transitioning to writing in cursive at all times.
as you might be aware, this has all but been taken out of the curriculum.

sparky: I have wondered if giving up cursive writing would be detrimental in the long run for the mental and emotional health of a child and eventually for the maturing adult. Personally, I think it could be disastrous for a child's self-communication skills and ability to communicate with others clearly....
You are right on point, Sparky
The act of cursive writing aids in brain development. To a large degree.
The notion of what you call self-dialogue could be part of what it is that cursive writing encourages: communication between the right and left brain hemispheres. Self dialogue would arise out of whole brain thinking/functioning.
Some interesting articles:
What’s Lost as Handwriting Fades (pdf)
A study of handwriting production:Educational and developmental aspect (pdf)
(I haven't fully read the above papers...they are now on my list of "to read". Right/left brain functioning is one of my favorite topics)
And a couple more...this one is about the benefits of cursive for dyslexic students:
And...

*I am still thinking about your idea of "self dialogue" and how that relates to the "idea generating" component of increasing right brain dialogue with left brain tasks. I think your notion fits quite well.
